July to August is a wonderful time here in Ontario. It's when our farmers grow some of the best blueberries Canada has to offer. In recognition of the hard effort our farmers go through, we here at Two Water would like to take you right to their door steps. A light tasting ale, that is sure to remind you of what summer really can be like. Cheers.

473 mL can from the brewery, dated Jun 10 2021. Brewed and canned at Spearhead in Kingston, served slightly chilled.

Pours a lightly fogged golden-orange colour, topped with more than a finger of soapy, foamy white head that recedes within two minutes or so. Its remnants include a thin cap and frothy collar, along with a few far-flung spots of lace; looks fine to me. Hints of blueberry on the nose, alongside cereal grain sweetness and a touch of blueberry muffin.

It's alright - subtle hints of blueberry extract at the forefront, followed by grainy pale malts, blueberry muffin and some dissipating doughy sweetness towards the finish. Weakly grassy, with the blueberry extract lingering into the aftertaste for a moment or two after each sip. Light in body, with aggressive carbonation that prickles the palate relentlessly with each sip; it's got a good, crisp bite, which works well for a light beer, and it's at least somewhat refreshing. Tossing this one back is easy.

Final Grade: 3.39, a B-. Two Pitch isn't bad, but its blueberry flavours don't come off as authentic at all - a quick glance at the ingredients list reveals that only extract was used (vs. actual berries), and it shows. In all fairness, I have always been picky about blueberry beer: it's a relatively subtle flavour, so I know why extracts might be of use, but that sweet spot between "too much; tastes fake" and "not enough; tastes boring" is a real challenge to nail. Two Pitch is both relatively boring and a little artificial-tasting, but largely unobjectionable anyhow - if you're at the brewpub next summer and in the mood for something a little fruity, give 'er a shot.
