I should not have let this age, as it’s from February 2023. If it was barrel aged, it may have developed in the bottle. This one seems like it has faded, or it wasn’t that developed in the first place. Cloudy, fluffy and active head. Not super tart or funky. Stronger on the taste, a lemony flavor. Dry finish, not as crisp or clean as I like from the style. Not bad, but disappointing.

tart saison, well hopped, i dont think these guys get enough credit for the under the radar funky beers they make, this is quite good. bottle pour is light rust colored with some haziness, lots of bubbles but a loose and fading head after a minute. the nose here has nice rustic funk, a decent amount of grain, wheat based, slightly toasted, dry though, and with some decent hops on the back end, a little older maybe so it seems slightly tired there, not bright and dry hoppy and popping, but there is some obvious citrus, canned pineapple, and catty mosaic character, some bitterness to me too, good funk comes out as it warms, subtle white wine type acidity. its a little less yeast forward than it smells, the saison esters in here are quite restrained, some lemony character but seems more from the hops, late rustic weirdness that i dig. the hops have some light oxidation but still a southern hemisphere vibe, green melon, dried herbs, and white grape tang, quite vinous to me, some esters in the mix as it sits a bit, increasingly complex then. im not sure this is at its peak, but its complex and i like that it still has some hop bitterness at the end, neat with the funk character that comes out more and more as this warms up, and its better carbonated than it looks like it is in the glass. its always special to get to drink these little deschutes bottles!
