Imperial stout that balances out the spicy characteristics of malted rye with a touch of sweetness from brown sugar and real Wisconsin maple syrup.

I got a can of this beer off the single shelf from a grocery store just off the UW LaCrosse campus. It poured an opaque dark with tan ring head that is not leaving much lace. The scent had Mae syrup and coffee notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with bitter semi sweet chocolate malt base and roast and maple flare. The mouthfeel was medium in body and had good carbonation. Overall it is a great beer.

12oz can. Poured out an opaque, jet-black color with a small, light brown head of foam. It left sticky rings of lace on the glass. It smelled of rye, chocolate, roasted malt and maple syrup. Sweet brown sugar with chocolate, maple, roasted malt and some rye.

Aroma is maple syrup, toffee/mild caramel and dark malts. The flavor is maple syrup, dark malts and a medium sweet/slightly spicy rye/acidic finish.

Pretty Fly For A Maple Rye pours black, with a small, long lasting tan head. Aroma is sweet, lots of maple. Flavor is sweet, rich, lots of maple, hints of coffee, and a hint of bitterness at the end. Good body and feel. Overall, a bit rich stout, overall, on the sweeter sugary side.

Pours a one finger head of foam atop a black brew. Aroma is definitely rye and if one squints and closes ones' eyes, it may very briefly seem like maple could be part of the profile. Taste is rye, with a slight bitterness but still little to no maple in any way shape or form. Taste is clean and goes down smoothly.

A: The beer is very dark brown in color and appears black when viewed from afar. It poured with a quarter finger high tan colored head that left a narrow collar around the edge and lots of specks of lacing clinging to the sides of the glass.
S: As the beer begins to warm up, moderate aromas of maple syrup are present in the nose along with hints of spicy rye.
T: The taste follows the smell but has additional notes of the underlying stout, with the spiciness from the rye lingering into the finish.
M: It feels a touch more than medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: The taste of this beer does a very good job at balancing the flavors of the maple, rye and stout while also masking the alcohol from the taste.
