We love a good rye whiskey here at Central Waters, and we were pretty excited to get these barrels a couple years back. We took the powerhouse base beer from our anniversary series and aged it in Buffalo Trace rye whiskey barrels for twenty four months. The subtleness of these barrels is spectacular as Buffalo Trace is rumored to use less rye in their mash than other rye whiskeys on the market - we knew right away which beer to put in them! The slight sweetness of the stout base combined with the subtle spiciness of rye whiskey made a beer worthy of this label series.

Thanks to 4DAloveofSTOUT for this 22 oz. bomber, as my liver continues to collect 25 variants. Split reluctantly with the wife.
Black, as any good stout should show. The nose is almost entirely spicy rye. That’s OK.
Twenty Five – Buffalo Trace Rye Barrel (Red Label) hits the description to a T – “the subtleness of these barrels…” & the rye is subtle. I prefer my rye in a mailed fist across the nose. The highlight here is the drinkability, since I could pound this for hours (as long as someone carried me to bed & put me on my side).
A simpler beast than many of the variants, this is barrel driven to the extreme. But it’s a good barrel. Very good brew.

poured from a 22oz bomber into a CW snifter. pours a shiny black with lighter, see-through brown edges and a thin dark brown foam cap. rye whiskey, oak, tobacco and chocolate on the nose. big, big barrel presence on this beast. taste follows but the rye whiskey spice almost gives off a cinnamon (or at the very least cinnamon whiskey) flavor that pops start to finish and just works so well with the base stout. full mouthfeel that’s chewy, sticky and creamy all at the same time. this was damn good. i expected to like this but holy cow, what a treat.
