quite literally a mexican lager, made with corn, we should have a category for that, but ive been beating that drum for years. corn is technically an adjunct right? but i feel weird adding something so premium as an adjunct lager where cheapness is the connotation. anyway, this is fire, as thoughtful and technically perfect an example of this style as i have really ever known from an american brewery, and the helper lager game is off the charts, the mouthfeel of this is elite, the refinement superb, and the drinkability immeasurable. i think this might even be better from the can than the tap too, although ive been digging both formats. stunning pour, super light and clear, gorgeous rushing spunded carbonation creating a peaky head that holds above the rim of my glass and this looks absolutely masterful, excited, and polished. aroma is tight and clean, i get real subtle lager yeast but not fruity like the yeast being sold as mexican lager yeast commercially often is, this is more like an import, less expressive but still distinctive to this style. i dont know if i smell corn, this is dry and simple, but its aiding in the perceived lightness im sure, great balance is evident, as is some compatible minerality, the whole thing seems just built for max refreshment. the flavor is lovely, the corn is light but identifiable, and this sort of presents like a lighter, less cheap modelo, with a cleaner non metallic finish and all the carbonation in the world, the texture makes this as much as the flavor does, the tiny bubbles all through it are just perfect. somewhat grassy on the swallow with the hops, but not bitter or hoppy in any usual sense, and i think the nuance is high, nowhere for flaws to hide in a beer this light and there very obviously arent any. this is a style that so often is "just a beer" rather than any kind of art form or higher thinking brew, but this is not like the rest of them, not sure ive ever had a take on this style so well made, so careful, so dialed. i absolutely love this one, right up there with their japanese lager as some of the best lagers ive had all year. absolutely not to be missed.
