Drank this Dubbel from a bottle in the Tasting Room at Roman arranged by Podge's Tours during 5 days of visiting members of the BFBA (Belgian Family Brewers Assn.)
Ename's Dubbel Looks like an abbey brown ale with a reddish tinge and a nice foam that I'd have liked to last longer. Smells also are only slightly above the average for dubbels, dark fruit mostly but not distinctive. Tastes are well balanced with hops and herbs working together to check the sweet malt, particularly in the finish. Not quite-medium mouthed, but still creamy.
I give very good Overall Hugs to Roman for managing relations with an abbey better than many other brewers and for being leaders in the BFBA.

Nice dubbel pour: dark ruby, voluminous head.
Aroma is surprisingly faint for the ABV, crisp and malty with subtle fruit nodes.
Flavor is quite nice. Delicate, but very well made. Caramel and raisins up front, fresher fruit in the middle, and a very nice, straightforward kiss of cereal grain on the back end.

Light brown with copper highlights and a thick beige head with good retention.
Mild aroma with notes of prunes, malt sweetness, a bit of banana and creamy chocolate.
Flavor with notes of caramel, chocolate, prunes, banana, a bit of brown sugar and noble hops. Dry aftertaste with a mild bitterness.
Light body with good carbonation. Alcohol of 6.6% is hidden, but on the low side of the style.
Easy to drink and pleasant Dubbel with chocolatey and fruity notes. Good balance. Don’t look for depth or complexity, although it not shallow.

L- Extremely dark chestnut, pours clear with a 2Cm pillowy pale-tan head that's holding well - and maintains it right down the glass. (Take care to rest, there is sediment in the bottle).
S- Some deep spicy fruits.
T- Deep, toasty into dark stewed fruits. Notable hops follow too so it hasn't the richness you usually might find with a 6.6%.
F- Very good carbonation in the mouth. Decent balanced richness. An ideal winter beer to slowly enjoy.
O- Nothing out of place to me. A wide spectrum of flavour to get out on a 6.6% foundation.I'd happily drink this again.

Pours a clear dark-brown color with a huge top off beige head, and some sticky lacings on the glass. The aroma is of roasted malts, caramel, dried dark fruits, some chocolate and brown sugar. The flavour is medium sweet in the front with roasted malts in the back, it also has a slight bitterness in the finish.A good malt profile on this dubbel, but it could had have more aftertaste. Medium carbonated witha little to light body. mouthfeel is soft and creamy. This is a good dubbel plain and simple, but lack the little extra to make it with the best belgian dubbels.
