On-tap, poured into a pilsner glass. Pours a medium golden amber with a quarter finger, white head that dissipates to patches with slight lacing. Aroma of grainy malt, citrus and fruit hops, lemon, mild mixed tropical fruit. Flavor follows with grainy malt, fruit hops, lemon, mixed tropical fruit and a hint of stone fruit. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. Although listed (and named) as a Mexican lager, this does taste more like a domestic one, largely because of the hops, which are Southern Hemisphere rather than noble one used in classic Mexican lagers. There may be corn used, but it does not make much of an impact. The corn often makes this style softer with a little sweetness; this is as dry as a craft American lager. I missed the distinct corn, but liked the brighter flavors of the Motueka hops, especially the citrus notes. Refreshing and a change of pace for the style. I'm usually not happy listing a Mexican lager under the American lager style name here (and wish it would return; it's a well used term here in the Northwest and normally easy to taste the difference in style), but in this case, this leans in the American lager direction anyway with its more interesting hop profile.
