We took inspiration for this West Coast Hoppy Pilsner from both German Pilsners and West Coast IPAs. We used more German influenced hops in the kettle (Czech Saaz, Opal, and Saphir) which gives the beer a softer bitterness and a nice floral and earthy hop base. We then used Mosaic and Motueka for dry hopping to bring out the tropical west coast flavors of mango, riesling grapes, and passionfruit.

Clear, golden pour with a medium, white head. The aroma shows an interesting hybrid of European and American hops, layering grassy, herbal notes with mango, grapefruit, and a touch of earthiness. The flavor is clean and crisply malty, supported by a pleasant, steady hop bitterness. Definitely not a classic German pilsner, but the twist works — a modern, hop‑forward take that still drinks well.

It’s a toasty one. Mostly tastes like toasted bread and watermelon lemonade. Bit of dragonfruit. Orange peel and grapefruit bitterness. Bit of rose. There’s that sour white wine flavor that also appears in their German Fill Pilsner. Moderate weed and pine hops. It’s a good one. It’s mislabeled as a German Pilsner here. More like a Cali Pale Ale with some pilsner traits.

Packaged June 2nd - enjoyed on July 20th, 2025. Poured from a pint can into my Moonlight willibecher.
Murky stil de grain yellow; low off-white cap. Gentle lacing, adequate retention.
Lovely, fairly potent citrus-heavy hop aromatics along with some tropical/berry notes.
Moderately bitter palate entry, flavors follow the nose but grow more expansive with flavors of pink peppercorn, papaya, dandelion and rose hips. Clean and crackery malt bill with some pils character. Well lagered. Medium dry, somewhat earthy finish.
Soft, creamy, medium-bodied mouthfeel. Sufficient carbonation.
One of the more successful stylistic fusions out there, and more than the sum of its parts.

Bought from Bottlecraft in San Diego; $6.25 for a 16oz can. Canned on 06/02/25 consumed 06/19/25. Poured into a Spiegelau stout glass.
A&S: Pale yellow transparent beer. White foamy head. Good lacing and head retention. The aroma is primarily dank and piney. Contains light touches of hay and sweet white bread.
T&M: It tastes fantastic! Upfront resiny hops and lemon zest. Light malty sweetness is balanced and then overcorrected by a hop punch. A little too hoppy to stay true to the style. But it is so good nonetheless. Crispy, dry, and clean. Medium-high stingy carbonation with low body. Super drinkable.
Overall: Very, very good. It is hard to poke many holes in it, outside of it not exactly fitting with it's style. One of the better beers I have had this year. Feels weird calling it a pils because it drinks like a pale ale, but so dang good.

west coast pils with a familiar hop complexion and a lot of flavor, light and frothy but not quite clear, which i generally expect this style to be. i find it curious this won a gabf gold in american pale ale, at least according to the gabf website, which doesnt make much sense, considering a lager like this cannot also be a pale ale, even if it does rightly drink like one, not denying that. i think this isnt that light, has nice balance, fresh and bright hop character, not outrageously unique or anything but well dosed and citrusy to me in here, and overall is an excellent beer, drinkable and satisfying. i can small and taste some lager yeast, very subtle, but the ferment is not really the focus of this as a flavor element, more as a drying crisping textural aid, and its lovely, this is zippy and quick, quenching. the flavor is nice, pils malt is not super european but its flavorful and fresh in here, nice with what must be citra hops, which to me hit a little more pronounced than others in here. slightly catty there, pineapple, tangerine, and some grassiness overall too, pine as it warms, lemon curd and zest, a light dill note, good minerality and water chemistry, to me still very obviously a lager but i get the modern pale ale thing. hoppy beer is trending light on the grain side and cleaner overall, and i think these guys have this dialed into what is hot right now, very well refined, flavorful, and fresh. a very fine example of the style, wouldnt call it a gold medal pale ale myself, but as a hoppy lager goes, this is rock solid!

Pours a clear amber with some coarse foam in the Saxo goblet. Pleasant aroma of lime and orange blossoms. Mouthfeel is a little thick and flabby with modest spritz. I would call it fruity with a resiny aftertaste. Current version seems to use just Mosaic and Citra. Rather bitter and not quite what I would hope for in a PIlsner. From the 16 oz can dated 06/0724 so it's quite fresh.

Thanks, Chris.
A clear straw yellow with a dense white head with excellent retention and lacing. The nose is richly hoppy and with purpose, the blend of Mosaic and Citra, bright, fruity, bright on a clean, delicately snappy malt base, mildly rich but with less assertiveness than a continental pilsner. The palate opens bright, clean, fruity and lovely with great, tempering bitterness. Honey. Fruit. Rich, bitter finish with lovely lingering Mosaic hop character. Mildly oily. Excellent.

This is an ipa in disguise, and a sneaky full one at that. Big west coast hops shape all aspects of this beer, bitter and slightly resinous tones star. Cracker, pilsner malt, and weakly bready yeast support the hops. Feel might have the best balance of the aspects of the beer, but still hoppy. Leave my pilsners alone, you hop heads!

Light, golden yellow body with a slight cloudiness; fair carbonation; thick, white head, sudsy and long lasting. Mildly spicy aroma with a slight infusion of fruity esters. Delightful flavors; biscuit-like malt backbone carrying notes of pine resin and tropical fruits; medium-light dose of hop bitterness rounds things out. Medium body; crisp.
This beer does a nice job of combining German pilsner notes with west coast India pale ale elements. The taste really highlights things.

It is quite tasty, but it is so far off from your typical pilsner notes that I am just wondering if it is time to start calling these west coast hybrid pilsners something else entirely. Italian style pilsner have taken off recently, but those are much more close in taste to the traditional style compared to this.

Clear wedding band gold with a white foam head that retains well.
Very dank, fruity, and spicy, it's sort of like a New Zealand pale ale.
This is way outside of my pilsner expectations, but some toasty seeds and a crisp finish help add some drinkable complexity.
If it was listed as an IPL or something of the kind, perhaps I'd rate it slightly higher, but these characteristics really threw me off.
