Scratch #188 represents our interpretation of the classic Belgian-style ale – the Saison. This once near-extinct ale was brewed in farmhouses during the winter months and stored until summer, when it was served to the seasonally working farmers. (Hint: “saison” translates to “season” in French.) Keeping with a French theme, we use a strain of French Saison yeast to enhance the mouthfeel, which lends a rich, silky texture and dry, champagne-like finish. The result is a mouthwatering, generously carbonated Saison with a tangy citrus zing, sweet malt backbone, and contrasting peppery spiciness. À la vôtre!

From 07/29/15 notes. 8oz. pour on tap at Fools Gold in NYC at their Troegs tap takeover.
Pours a hazy yellow color with one finger of fluffy white head and low carbonation evident. Very good nose and taste; tons of bananas, cloves, bready malts, fruity malts, and citrus. Medium body and low carbonation, super easy to drink.
Overall I liked this one a lot; this is right up my ally saison-wise. Super banana-y and fruity, with no spice and pepper, a little sweet, and super easy to drink. If that's your type of saison def go for it.

A delicious Belgian style Saison that hits the spot on a hot & humid Pennsylvania, summer day! It is crisp and refreshing with a great fruity undertone with a spicy yeast finish.

A: slight haze; medium gold in color; 1 finger white head that receded to a thin collar; OK lacing;
S: coriander, black pepper, orange, yeast;
T: orange with lemon is predominant, but coriander and black pepper are both evident; lightly tart and lightly sweet from mid-palate on; a touch of bitterness at the finish;
M: light to medium bodied; moderate carbonation;
O: head didn't last; not much lacing; no dryness on the finish; with that said, the flavor was nice and the beer was enjoyable to drink;
