When we make our annual pilgrimage to the hop-growing hotbed of Yakima Valley, we’re like kids in a candy store. We eyeball the hops on the bines, crush them in our hands and rub them til their oils fill the air. LolliHop brings together three of our favorites. Dry-hopping with Citra and Mosaic layers in notes of orange, grapefruit and melon, while Azacca in the kettle adds hints of papaya and pineapple. Locally harvested rustic pale malt provides the backbone, and wheat and oats make this beer silky smooth with a touch of haze.

We taste: pear, citrus, hint of melon.

Pours a straw yellow with a white-like haze to it under a spongy white head that throws some coral-like lacing against the glass wall. While cold, the nose s lightly floral and the taste does have a lightly sweet citrus vibe to it until a long bittering end. At first, I might have thought maybe some El Dorado or new age southern hemisphere hop, but the Citra and Mosaic start to come through as it warms up, and subsequently I warm up to it.

The beer clears up, also transitioning towards a golden body while remaining light in general color. The nose has a lemony citrus with some sweeter fruit notes, perhaps the pineapple the notes indicate. There's a skin/pith aroma on the edge of my senses each time I inhale, though, which is good. Light and pretty clean crackery malts than basically just lay the groundwork for the hops. Often, this can lead to too much of a hop profile, but there is nice balance to this beer.

More warmth brings a little more sweetness to the taste, in line with the higher ABV DIPA style, and wafts of herbal scents. The body grows a bit in concert with the sweetness. However, sweetness isn't the only thing that increases with warmth, as the bitterness keeps pace. The two seem to pick ends of the beer to shine, sweet up front and bitterness in back, again as expected for a DIPA. Overall, this ends up a balanced brew with a clean malt profile that gets citrus peel laid over it, with a bit of pith (and just a dash of dank) to set the palate up for the next sip.

Very nice! The price is nice too for a double. For a little over 12 bucks for a sixer, you can't beat it.

Fat Head's Head Hunter is a bit better, but you pay for it.

Love this stuff.

A 12 oz can from Total Wine and More in Short Pump, VA. The ale poured a hazy, light amber with a small, slightly off-white head and lacing. The fruity aroma of tropical fruit is detected. Flavors are muted, maybe by the higher ABV. There is a sweetness common to higher ABV ales. This is an easy-to-drink ale with low hop bitterness and a deceptive ABV. The ale has a medium body and soft carbonation.

A- wispy pee color, saved by the fluffy head and enticing bubbles
S- nothing to write home about. Muted piney hops with buttery malt backbone.

T- yowza, tastes much more powerful than it smells. Pine resin, bread, even some candied fruity notes. This is really good

M- medium bodied and smooth

O- thought we may have been heading into yikes territory but the taste came through, which is by far the most important part

On draught at the brewery.
Clear straw colored pour, low head retention.
Malty sweetness is dominant, hops bitterness is low, perhaps masked by sweetness. But hops flavor is pleasant, a little piney and floral with citrus notes, Grapefruit and tangerine.

L: Pours a clear pale gold with a finger of head that dissipates quickly
S: peach and apricot slight grassy undertones
T: follows the nose. Nice citrus with a touch of pine, buttery malt finish. Almost no bitterness
F: on the thin side but makes it very approachable
O: very solid DIPA.
