At Tröegs, artisanal meets mechanical in a state of IPA we call Perpetual. Cycling through our HopBack vessel and dry-hopping method, this bold Imperial Pale Ale emerges rife with sticky citrus rind, pine balm and tropical fruit.

22 oz. bottle poured into a tulip. Massive thanks to Centennial for this, as he sent it to me in an LIF.

Appearance - Nearly clear dark golden body with a nice white head. Head retention isn't great, but the lacing is pretty. Nice and sticky down the glass.

Smell - Great hop aroma. Not a one-note hop aroma either. Grapefruit and a bit of a grassy hop aroma with a pinch of pine in the back. Good stuff.

Taste - Not as apparent as the aroma, but still a big hop presence. Grapefruit, grass, and pine. The malt is barely there, which is how I like it. A light, but lingering bitterness in the finish.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied and medium carbonation. It's somewhat dry in the finish, which takes away from its drinkability. It makes the bitterness hang around while the other flavors drop off.

Overall - Very nice IPA. Glad to see more and more east coast breweries making west coast style IPAs.

Look...golden color with no haze whatsoever. Clean white foam head
Smell...Almost nonexistent. Not bad just nothing. The smallest hint of .....
Taste...Old school bitter but juicy start to an overlying bitter. Some melon and just enough swsweetness to ballance very nicely
Feel...really slick as it slides down tour throat...haha Actually excellent lacing and a medium MF
Overall...I remember liking this more the first time I had this but it was many years ago. Still a very solid beer and only the second I believe I ever had. Nothing crazy but I would buy this again easily

Great clarity and decent head retention. Aroma of fruity hops and light malt, but a bit muted. (Sample may have been less than fresh.) Classic old school piney, citrus flavor with a hint of sweet malt. Not a double IPA but an "imperial pale ale" with an exceptionally smooth finish. At 7.5%, it packs a punch, but is almost poundable. When you can't decide between an IPA or a DIPA, choose this one. A semi-classic.

Another good solid Imperial IPA. I see the ratings are a bit higher than I rank them. I'm from the Pacific Northwest and maybe I am expecting more from them. Rated about 5 years ago.

12 oz can from Total Wine and More in Short Pump, VA The ale was poured with clear gold, with a small white head and limited lacing. The aroma of citrus and pine resin was easily detected. The hop profile is excellent. Nice grapefruit flavors and pine resin are winners in the aftertaste. The ale has a medium body and soft carbonation.

12 oz bottle into a 1/2 pint nonick glass.
L: SRM 3.5 pours a crystal clear caramel color with a thin white head that goes to skin and then edge foam, good steady carbo, random complex patchy lacing.
S: A floral and herbal hop note, distant fruits, a hint of cereal grains.
T: Caramelized malts, wet dog, tangerine, grapefruit, cereal grains, citrus zest, light fruit bread, pine resin, a touch of melon, gently sweet, has a lingering zesty & resinous finish. Overall very clean tasting.
F: Lightly brisk medium to med-light bodied soft mouthfeel with a clean center and a medium-long fairly drying finish.
O: Dangerously easy drinking at 7.5% with an inviting feel. Vested citrus accents with a resinous and slightly bitter finish. Light sweet caramel malts let the hop notes stay. It has a soft water feel and is outstanding in its style.
