A mix of house-made melon and prickly pear soda with the award-winning beer from Pump House Brewery. With a hint of melon and with sweet notes of the delicious fruit of the prickly pear cactus, this refreshing blend pairs perfectly with the subtle Willamette hops.

Light gold with the usual fast-dissipating radler head. Nose is mostly melon and floral notes. Light bodied with the standard Pump House beer overlaid with the fruit soda. I found it quite sweet to the taste, almost syrupy. Carbonation was decent. It was OK but I prefer all of their other flavours to this one.

At my lady Pamela's house; canned and chilled, 473mL in a nonic pint glass. From my favourite LCBO at Tecumseh Mall in nearby Windsor. My second beer from the Moncton, New Brunswick brewery, and for 2025...

473 mL can from the LCBO; coded Feb 4 2025 and served slightly chilled.
Pours a clear pale golden colour, graced initially with nearly two fingers of foamy white head; it wilts within three minutes or so, imprinting some lacy strands onto the glass as it drops away. A thick, frothy collar and sudsy cap linger on - looks great so far. Honeydew melon and prickly pear on the nose, at times reminiscent of pear, elderberry and cranberry cocktail; there's also a fragrant floral aspect to the aroma.
It's tasty, but it's also rather sugary, even by radler standards. I'm getting honeydew melon, Honeycrisp apple, d'Anjou pear and dragonfruit, with the prickly pear asserting itself on the back end. Saccharine conclusion, with melon and prickly pear lingering into the aftertaste for a few seconds. Light in body, with restrained carbonation and a smooth, slippery mouthfeel; very easy to drink, and I imagine it would hit the spot if you're lounging around the beach or pool.
Final Grade: 3.75, squeaking out a B+. Pump House's Melon & Prickly Pear Crafty Radler is the most creative radler I've had in quite some time. That's not to suggest it's an unequivocal success: for instance, it's sweeter than I'd prefer from a radler, largely lacking the balancing acidity that you'd get from a more orthodox citrus radler. Nonetheless, I still enjoyed this brew and finished my glass easily. If you're a honeydew melon lover, this is a must-try - as for me, I'll probably buy a couple more cans before the local stock runs dry.
