cool that these guys are making a little beer now, i think this is their first, the place is in a former brewery and the equipment is there, why not use it. they have been a taphouse only until now, so this is a cool evolution, and a fine little brew, an unfiltered pale lager thats nothing special but also nothing inferior, i think a job well done to kick things off, although with all the heady stuff they pour in here, this isnt one i will flock back to necessarily, but its an easy drinking and yet not boring basic beer, and a lot of people will be into that. lightly brassy toned, a little deeper than blonde for sure, just a little haziness to it, not poorly refined looking at all, especially with the nice tall near inch of white head crowning it. aroma is subtle, tight even when its first poured and frosty cold, i get a subtle fruity ester note wafting through, a little cereal character and honey sweetness to the grain, lager yeast not totally evident here, but it smells fresh and malty and decent. the flavor is nice, but its the mouthfeel i notice first, i love the structure this has, some substance to it, not a watery yellow throw away beer, its loaded with textural interest, earthen and off dry, medium bodied, round, well carbonated, all very nice. the malt flavor is fresh and good, faintly toasty, a little bit more than basic, and the hops are really light, some late crispness eases it a bit, and i think overall this is ahead of modest expectations all things considered here. curious to see what they brew next, its a nice addition to what they offer and another good reason to spend time drinking in this place. glad they finally started making their own, its been a long time coming, good start!
