a less gimmicky and forced take on the style than is common right now, this drips with quality ingredients and the flavors do not come at the expense of what is a compelling base beer, and this approach to the adjunct thing is something i am into, tastefully done and very good overall. this is also a touch lighter in alcohol and body than a lot of them, appreciable as a porter rather than a stout if you will, and i think thats a nice call for this, almost strong brown ale as a base, still real dark brown but it isnt black, its not crazy viscous, and the roast is relatively light from the grain side, like the coffee aspect of this seems to be about the darkest part, the bass note, but the nibs are right there with it, plenty of chocolate malt in aroma and flavor filling out the middle, tidy ferment, drier than anticipated, really not a dessert beer to me in the modern sense, without so much lactose as has become common, well restrained there, no sign of its alcohol at all in nose and taste either. for me its the toasted coconut and vanilla that stand out the most of the added ingredients, coconut has a richness to it thats wonderful in here with all the chocolate character, and the vanilla seems authentic and perfectly dosed to make this sexy and regal without it being overdone and dominant, the base beer is there there the whole way, never lost to all of this stuff, so uncommon. vanilla and just light bitterness and coffee bite on the swallow, creamy medium body but with an almost baltic porter cooler fermented quickness to it that is really nice, and good carbonation. i love this not being super strong and sugary, and i think the proportions are awesome. i continue to be impressed just about every time i drink beer from creature comforts, they do so many things well, and this was a real treat. the coconut is gorgeous with the malt, the nibs, the coffee, and the vanilla, delicious!

16oz can served in a hotel tumbler. Canned 10/16/23. Best by 04/16/24. I think @2beerdogs gave it to me.

Pours black and mostly still-looking. Almost no head, though bubbles occasionally penetrating the surface in a kind of fascinatingly slow and random way. Smell is dark roast and a little coconut (possible induced by the words on the can -- no, that's real, it's there). Chocolatey sweetness.

Taste is quite sweet, milk chocolate and coconut, a little of the roast coffee bitterness comes through, but it really comes across as very sweetened coffee with coconut milk.

Mouthfeel is medium-weight, still, smooth. Overall...it's not bad. Not sad I only have the single, though.

Appearance: Pours a very dark brown, near black body with a slim, smattering of tanned suds.

Smell: An aromatic, punchy blend of chocolate, toasted coconut, coffee amidst the dark, roasty malts and slighter notes of nuts, dark fruits.

Taste: Strong, sweet milk chocolate flavor, light earthy nut character, dark estery fruitiness, toasted coconut flakes, moderate coffee for a decided liqueur quality.

Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Medium carbonation.

Overall: Pretty tasty though rather cordial-like.

I'm quite surprised by how thick this is - it's chock full of cocoa, but also contains nice hints of coconut and vanilla. Maybe just a hint of nuttiness, too. Coffee is more understated, but there is a bit of bitterness and acidity detectable there.

Nice balance. Again, super thick (appearance and mouthfeel).

Impressive head - almost looks like an export stout - huge lacing.

Thanks to JBowenGeorgia for this gem. Received in our now infamous NBS BIF #5.

Pours a deep mahogany. But the head that slowly churns forth is beyond spectacular. It starts out languidly. But just as I started to glance away, I caught a motion that entranced me. A slow roil rose from the dark pool of my glass. A slow rising of milky head was cascading upward. It was glorious too behold. Mocha color mother of pearl sheened bubbles by the thousands were forming this vertical cascade that formed a tight milky head2 fingers high.
Aromas began with a gentle coffee roast, mild baker's chocolate with a hint of bitter, and a slight toasted cracker.
Flavor goes a tad sweeter than the nose hints at. But the sweet that leans dark chocolate turns promptly toward a slightly bitter baker's chocolate and coffee roast. A slight toasty note is on the end, but I don't think i can specifically attribute this to coconut. Ever so slight hint of vanilla on the finish.
Mouthfeel is full, more stout than porter. I'm fine with that. It has a smooth slickness too.
Overall, quite good. Maybe a tad more sweet and coconut would make it even better.

Pour at the Modern Times Carnival of Caffeination. I was looking forward to trying this one, but something was off. The feel was a little strange and the adjunct flavors just didn't blend well and were pretty muddled. Not a bad beer by any means, but a bit of a disappointment.
