Poured from a growler into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a medium golden amber with a quarter finger white head that dissipates to a persistent thin cap. Aroma of bready malt with light graininess, spicy, lightly grassy hops, whole wheat bread and light corn. Flavor is bready and grainy malt, grassy hops, whole wheat bread, cracked grain, light apple juice and mild corn sweetness; lightly floral and spicy. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. A quite pleasant medium lager with a solid malt body with good grain and bread character. Although it is hopped with noble hops, I liked the spicy and floral notes; I was convinced at first that domestic hops were used, but was informed that it was noble hopping as traditional and also that corn was in the mix. Bitterness was a touch above standard for domestic lagers, which was to my taste. The corn sweetness is mild and adds a little interest. There was some resemblance to a Mexican lager. I generally don't gravitate to domestic lagers, but this is a nice one.

I had this beer on-tap in a Willi Becher glass at the brewery. This is a pre-Prohibition style American lager brewed with corn.

Appearance: medium golden hue with a little dash of haze and a finger of ivory foam atop.

Smell: moderate sweetness with a bit of a spicy character on top of the malt. Not bad.

Taste: malt is a little bit sweet with a fair dose of graininess and a nice, bracing bitterness. I wouldn't have guessed corn was in here, but it does explain a bit of the sweetness. A darn good lager.

Mouthfeel: medium body with a good carbonation and creaminess.

Overall: tasty, crisp, and super drinkable. Very reminiscent of a classic Czech pilsner (except for the ABV), but with a little American twist. I'm down!
