An impressive saison for a restaurant that just has pizza and pannini on its Sunday menu (it's only open one day.)
My first from Bonfire, I went on their website and was impressed. First, Bonfire strikes me as totally unique, a wedding destination that brews beer. They are less than 100km from Melbourne, but seem to get pretty good distribution in Melbourne’s metro, so someone must hustle. My Big question is how did they brew this good a saison?
They specialise in pale ales, but this Saison has the 4th most Check-ins on UnTappd. And I rarely rate a first release saison this highly. It also passed the key saison test: Bonfire's rendition made a common quinoa salad better. For all this, I give very good Overall Hugs.
This Saison Looks attractive, a very active yeast, lots of protein swirls; like it wants to be part of my meal. It Smells mostly of fruity malt, again an effective yeast at work. Balanced Tastes without using too many hops; but they do linger enough for the finish and that stimulates flavour further. Slightly more than Medium-mouthed; and soft in a style that often uses harsh bubbles to cleanse the fat from French food.
I would have Bonfire's Saison again and again. The problem is, I was luck to find it in Melbourne and I don't return to Australia for another 10 months.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
