This beer is a Dunkelweizen, inspired by the many boots of the stuff Colin drank at his favorite bar back in the day. It pours hazy dark brown with the fine khaki head releasing roasted malt, banana, and mild clove aromas reminiscent of fresh-baked banana bread. The lean, easy-drinking body is malt-forward with caramel, roasted malt, and chocolate flavors, followed by banana and clove notes from the German Hefeweizen yeast.

12 oz bottle poured into a weizen glass.
5.1% ABV, Bottled 09/30/14
A - Initially pouring clear before sediment swirls into the glass to haze it over, this rich mahogany-colored beer forms a tall ivory head that dissipates with some haste while leaving chunky lace adorned on the glass.
S - Classic Bavarian yeast opens the beer's aroma with spicy clove notes and overripe banana, gently transitioning to soft notes of chocolate and bread crust giving Colin a toasted, chocolate chip-filled banana bread smell that's awesome!
T - Suggestions of coffee peek through Colin's wonderful flavor that closely mirrors the aroma. Dark malts make for a bready beer with morsels of milk chocolate stuck in moist banana bread; a fantastic dunkelweizen flavor!
M - Cheers to the wheat for this dunkel's soft entry to the palate, livened up with the perception of a lighter body by effervescent carbonation. It's smooth and dry finishing out with bubbles prickling the tongue upon the swallow.
O - Lakefront's My Turn series continues to impress with the addition of Colin, a near classic Bavarian dunkelweizen, complete with the yeast character you'd expect and the malt body to boot, delivering a chocolate chip-filled moist banana bread-like aroma and flavor that's just awesome.

Two finger off white head, with a muddy water/chocolate brown body.
Smells like wheat and barley, toasted oats, orange slice, with sort of a candied creaminess.
The taste is like a hefeweizen or a Hoegaarden but roasted and dark, it is very tasty and seems to combine aspects of a porter and a hefeweizen. Orange and plum are there, with some wood, and light candied dreamy-ness.
Mouthfeel is buzzing with carbonation, finishes smooth and slightly oaky.
I'd buy it in a six pack. It's good stuff. Not as good as the genuine German stuff, but for being domestic it's not bad at all.

Taste: spicy and malty with a smooth mouth feel. Very drinkable.
Overall: Not bad but I prefer the German versions.

Looks like a nice, dark dunkel.
Smells funky.
Tastes a bit hoppy with slight tartness.
Feel is decently effervescent.
It's ok but not something I'd buy again.

Been a while since I've had a good Dunkelweizen and this My Turn series has been historically good to me.
Bottled in mid September clearly marked on the bottle neck.
A -- Deep, dark brown -- nearly black, with a thick, light tan head that settles somewhat quickly for a Hefeweizen.
S -- Light phenolics, mild vanilla and cocoa, some mild estery banana eking through.
T -- The phenols hit the palate first, followed by mellow cocoa and vanilla characters with some mild roasted, even smoky, malt back and mildly husky wheat and spicy hops in the finish with some fruity esters. Phenols and spiciness linger thru the aftertaste.
M -- Mouthfeel is soft to creamy with a medium-full body.
O -- I thought the strong phenolic character may have been a little too overpowering in this beer, but the balance and complexity of flavors make it an interesting and enjoyable change-of-pace beer.

Pours a frothy, tan head. Lovely banana clove aroma. Deep burnt umber color. Starts with a nice banana flavor with toasted malt behind it. Banana flavor increases and the malt intensifies. A flash of hops. Finish is slightly toasted malt with bananas and clove.
Yet again, a hit with the My Turn series. This is really well balanced; banana, clove, toasted malt, and a wisp of hops. Just lovely.

Poured into a weizen glass:
Pours hazed brown with a large fluffy light tan head that leaves lacing.
The smell is of toffee/caramel, nuts, banana/clove.
The taste is of sweet caramel/toffee, banana, nuts...balanced by clove spicing and a sour tang in the sem-sweet finish.
It is smooth and pretty creamy. (I was between scores, but it has ample body and the carbonation is fine, so I went with the higher I had of the two in mind.)
Overall, this is a very nice interpretation of a traditional dunkelweizen!
