Notes (Rambling):
I'm going to say I bought this one at a retail store a single can... On the bottom is a BB29 October 2025... It's now the third week in January... We're 3 months past the Best buy date... But I'm not worried cuz this is an English bitter...SRM I'm going to call it a 19 and a close inspection shows a little bit of yeast that's due to the aging a little bit of suspended particle..
Taste: definitely malt malt forward oh Lord this is good... There's a little bit of a nut... I can't quite describe it but we'll definitely get to that... It's an ale and frankly when I open the can I saw a little bit of yeast magic happen so it's actively still finishing... Or gasping for some air when I depressurize the CO2 vessel of an aluminum can with Katie's face on it ... Yes it's alive in the yeast is again propagating...
Taste it's sweet... It's not bitter... extra special by style ..yes bitter... But definitely not a bitter woman... This beer is lovely... Wait for it... It takes a little... Yeah it's there but it arrives late... There's that bitter note... It's not in a mean way it just says I'm here...Malty did I say malty ? This is malty... It reminds me of a great Marzen... But this has different yeast of course... Yeah this is a ale... And what that style hops are in the background ? I might guess Kent Golding.... but I'm not an expert on those hop flowers...and I'm not saying this is hop forward. But the name would imply it.... This is balanced nicely, but it's malt forward with a balanced bittering that hits late...
The sweetness blooms between drinks makes you want to slow down.... Okay that nut taste is a roasted nut kind of like if somebody roasted a popcorn kernel and it didn't pop... only on the barley malt.... There's something special here with the malt... Katie is aging well... I mean 3 months beyond the Best Buy date... And still delicious... It could have been "did not finish".... This one's finishing strong though... Makes me want to have another
Mouth feel.. medium to light body... Very nice carbonation is perfect It's in the background but it's lively adds to the experience alcohol 5% very drinkable... Sessionable perhaps... maybe just a little sweet but not cloying... I mean you get the sense that you want another... Not all beers and styles take me there..
Additional tastes.... It opened up late there's that malted milk note and it's grainy before it turns sweet... There's just a lot going on... And on that malted milk note there's an essence of milk chocolate.... It's crazy.... The afterthoughts... So now I got to say this beer is layered.... Okay that's it I'm upgrading my scores.... Okay I'm scoring the four overall... Despite it being a little bit past its prime... I'm going to see if I can get a fresh one at the brewery, yeah!
.
Aroma malt.... More on a grain side... I don't like to use the word bread... But a little bit like that.... There's an earthy note I think it's coming from the hops... Not sharp but subtle Not citrus... But maybe just a drop
Appearance: gorgeous I got to pull up my reference for the SRM 19 nice ...
Okay I like this beer a lot... 3 months past its date probably deserves a little bit higher score... Taste is definitely a four
