From 01/14/12 notes. Thanks to nmann08 for sharing this one, 2011 Special Edition.
a - Pours a murky dark brown color with one inch of off white head and moderate carbonation evident.
s - Smells of dark fruits, spices, raisins, figs, fruity malts, and toasted malts. Pretty nice and fruity.
t - Tastes of raisins, figs, fruity malts, toasted malts, dark fruits, and alcohol. Taste follows the nose plus alcohol. Though it would be more than 5% ABV.
m - Medium body and moderate carbonation.
o - Overall a decent beer, full of dark fruits. Worth trying.

A murky dark red colored body. A thin white quarter inch head faded to a coating rapidly. Microscopic carbonation bubbles rising quickly. Minimal lacing.
Rich malt background with a nice blend of orange zest and ginger. Very slight hop bitterness plays second behind the spice. A nice balance.
Dark malt flavors are quickly joined by a chestnut taste. Ginger and citric aromas are much more subdued on the tongue. An overall sweetness with just a hint of spice and bitterness.
A decent feeling on all surfaces of the mouth. Carbonation is a bit subdued, but allows taste to pop.
An OK brew. Would work well with bread pudding for dessert. Definitely not a brew for every palate. Worth checking out for a twist on a spiced winter brew.

Served at Radio City Location.
On Tap into a pint glass.
The pour was a dark orange-amber. The head was about half an inch and was unobtrusive.
The aroma was a spicy ginger and orange with a touch of floral hops. The aroma indicated a density that did not seem present later in the taste.
The taste is less of the "deep and sweet" winter warmer and more of the spiced and tangy variety. My preference is for the former and this being the latter took me unexpectedly.
The taste IMO wavered between slightly flat and uninspiring to having the quality of a pale ale with just enough malt and orange, coriander, and ginger to qualify it as a Winter ale. I would try it again but did not find it the most compelling example of a winter ale.

Heartland Brewery Old Rednose Ale...
Appearance-small to medium head, dark red to light brown color, minimal lacing.
Smell-subdued toffee aroma, light malt and spice flavors.
Taste/Mouthfeel-warm dark taste, spice appears but very balanced. Smooth drinking, and fine taste.
Drinkability-light, smooth, very drinkable
Overall-a subdued winter ale, but one that tastes fine and probably tastes better to the touristy clientele this place gets.
