The origin of Point Bock beer can be traced back to 1938. Production was discontinued in 1942 to be returned after WWII in 1945. Since that time, for more than 55 years, Point Bock was brewed yearly.
This recipe was discovered in the archives by brewmaster Gabe Hopkins – a traditional bock with toasty malt sweetness, full-bodied flavor, and a rich roasted aroma.

Appearance: Clear amber, ok head.
Smell: Toasted bread, maybe a slight roasty note.
Taste: Mild sweetness followed by mild toasted bread note. Feels kind of foamy. Finishes with a pretty solid toast note.
Overall: Pretty decent bock from Point, the mouthfeel is a little weird, like too carbonated but not fizzy. Lots of toasted bread flavor.

L: Coppery amber, completely clear; vigorous activity builds up a light, bubbly head that doesn't stay, spotty lacing.
S: Dry, beady malts, light caramel with a whiff of dark fruits, a bit grainy, and a vague note of floral hops
T: Follows suit; a bit grainy, but pretty standard and the dark fruits get sweeter into the finish
F: A touch thin and a hint metallic, but crisp and steady until falling off into the finish

Poured from a can into a pint glass. Pours deep red orange with a fluffy off white head. Smells of caramelized grain and fresh fruit. Tastes of fresh fruit with caramelized grain, quite nice combination. Beer is light bodied and easy drinking, good carbonation. Overall, a good beer.

L-Copper colored..nice clarity
S-Worty and sweet with sour notes..
T-Toasted sour bread....hints of caramel,
F-Light side of medium bodied
O_Not styled after true bock beers from Germany but more along the lines of the bocks a lot of breweries threw out there in the spring in Wisconsin and Minnesota back in the day. It's ok..maybe below ok......the sour bread flavor doesn't do much for me

(16 oz can, 353OSP; purchased single off shelf at Shangy's this week... poured into a 14 oz mug)
L: polished-clear, garnet-colored liquid; the foam begins it violent collapse upon pouring, settling into a thin collar with a minute... yeah, my glass is perfectly clean and the rapid degradation of foam here is alarming, making me wonder if this can has been subjected to poor storage; the color of the liquid is a unique hue I don't see too often
S: brown bread crust mostly, but with raisin and light caramel note quickly emerging... maybe a subtle undertone of herbal hops, but faint if any
T: the flavors more or less match the aromas, but with the caramel and herbal hop more pronounced, also perhaps a fair amount of dark-toasted grain (like brown malt?) in the aftertaste... more or that raisin gradually builds on the palate; yes, rather grapey
F: marginally plump and sluggish in its approach, but just barely short of viscous... really wish there was a bit more shape to it, its finish cut a little sharper... slowly gets more oily sip after sip... its mild+ bitterness and soft booze do provide a bit of stunning warmth
O: serviceable, gets a little better as it goes; probably best cold out of the can... but after having the glorious Einbecker Urbock a couple days ago, this bock is a bit laughable (1967)

Appearance - The beer poured a copper color with a white head.
Smell - To be vague, this smells like an old-time beer. More specific, it had dry malts and grass.
Taste - The profile had sweet grains toward the front. It was grassy, but had a definite roasted malt profile. Dry cereal grains were noted in the finish.
Mouthfeel - The body was thin with a high level of carbonation.
Overall - Perhaps it was my low expectations, but I thought this was pretty decent.

12 oz longneck poured into an imperial pint glass, the beer is a light tan with red highlights. Not much of a head.
The smell is of caramel and brown bread.
The taste tracks the smell. It is slightly sweet with caramel/brown sugar notes. This is as expected a malt forward beer with a bit of toasted dark bread in the finish. It is pretty decent and really what I think of as an American old school bock beer.
The mouth is medium with a almost perfect carbonation.
Well worth a getting a sixer or two every year when it is season.

I tried this beer off the tapper at a restaurant in St. Germaine, Wisconsin whilst participating in the Eagle River Pond Hockey tournament. It poured a yellowish golden color with white head that disappeared quickly and did not leave any lace. The scent had grain and yeast notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with bread presence. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it is a decent beer.

Pours golden brown with a short lived head. Bock meets cheap macro sconnie lager in nose, toast, caramel, and cheap yeast particularly stand out. Taste has an almost honeyed starring flavor and has sweet grains like leinnies, like they wanted to wisconsin lager the german bock. Time and place for both, but not together. Results in the feel being very macro with malt heaviness.

Horrible bock!
Nasty stuff.
The only thing about this beer that resembles a bock is the color.
No taste, aroma, or head.
Who is the brain child behind this massacre of a bock? Bad.

This is basically a dark amber MGD, slightly less corn. Not a bad thing, actually, but I wouldn't buy it again at $15 for a six pack.

Not the best bock over all but it has a lot of nostalgia with me. It was the first beer I had that was not an AAL. I couldn't wait for it to come out each spring (36 years ago). It is a good beer much like Michelob Amber Bock.
