Poured from a 500mL can into a small stein.
Clear auburn body with a furiously fizzy beige cap receding rapidly to naught. No lacing or legs.
Rich bready aroma suffused with rye, pumpernickel, caraway, peppercorn, and molasses.
Sweet and bready flavors offset by a light lemonade like tartness. Much like a liquid Vilnius black rye loaf soaked in sugar syrup with a few drops of apple cider vinegar. Finishes like candy (36 grams of sugar!).
Medium-light bodied, slightly sticky, very fizzy - much like a soda.
Too sweet for me, though I haven't had enough of them to say it's too sweet for the style (which I hesitate to call beer), but otherwise free of preservatives/artificial colors/etc. and full of black rye bread flavor. Would be refreshing after an arduous shift of snow shoveling.

500ml can poured into a SA perfect pint
A- pours a clear chestnut brown with a one finger foamy off white head that disappears immediately. Looks like soda
S- smells like peppery rye bread crust. Dry grainy and cracker-like
T- super sweet up front, as expected by the enormous amount of sugar they add to this. Mid-palate gives bready rye crust flavors, although it’s not as peppery as expected. The finish gives a hint of caramel with more sugary sweetness and bread on the linger
M- light body with moderate carbonation, foamy mouthfeel and slick finish. Drinks like a soda
O- it’s not offensive but not something I’d buy again. Like bread flavored soda

500 ml can, as Gubernija Bread Kvass Dark Rye, from EKO Market, Stavanger. Mildly fermented, no ABV mentioned on the can. Deep brown colour, small off-white head. Aroma of dark rye bread. Medium sweet flavour, notes of dark rye bread, sugar, lemonade and cola.

Clear amber brown with a modest foam in the Hopleaf goblet. No hops here, however. The sweetness is moderate and goes well with the grainy flavor. The rye does not provide the spicy bitter tang that it does in regular beers, but somehow the flavor is more appealing than the usual sickly sweet Kvass concoctions. Quite pleasant for a thirst quenching gulp, but almost entirely unlike beer. From the 500 ml can purchased at the European market. Actually dated 15 FEB 2023.
