It is a real shame that this beer was retired. I was lucky enough to drink plenty of them while they were around. Like another reviewer has said, this beer tastes and smells EXACTLY like circus peanuts. That may not sound appealing to many at first, but I assure you that it was delicious. I don't even like circus peanuts, but I loved this beer and its unique taste.

This has been the weirdest tasting beer I have ever had. I am sad that it is retired just because I think everyone should have the chance to experience drinking a beer that smells and tastes exactly like circus peanuts. Circus peanuts as in the gummy, squishy, fake-banana tasting candy that always ended up in my Easter basket, even though I can imagine anyone ever choosing to eat them. I was not a fan of circus peanut beer, but trying it was definitely an experience. If you missed out on trying this beer you could just find a bag of circus peanuts and you can imagine it.

Average hefeweizen. I wasn't blown away but I also wasn't disappointed. The citrus notes are definitely very strong and delicious.

Smells like a hefe should, but nothing spectacular. The color and appearance was quite good, and it really felt good on the tongue.

Definitely drinkable, but the bar where I got it has so many other good beers on tap, I doubt I'll return to this one quickly.

12oz bottle weisse-poured into a wizen glass. Didn't realize this brew had been retired till now!

Pours a nice light golden cloudy color with a huge fluffy and sticky head. Nose is sweet, yeasty and a bit wheaty. Some banana notes as well.

Woo! Taste is like a runt banana! Very strong and upfront with this, a bit sweet and somewhat thick and sharp. Mouthfeel is good for a weizen.

This was the first wheat beer I ever had back in my freshman year of college and I loved this stuff, coming back to it is very refreshing! Sad to see this is being retired!

Thanks to kingcrowing for this extra.

Pours a slightly hazy golden with plenty of carbonation bubbles and a 2-finger head. Minimal lacing.

The smell is overwhelmingly fresh bananas with slight clove & yeast scents. Taste is wheat, yeast, bananas, cloves & some bitter/sour lemon. Mouthfeel is rather carbonated but surprisingly heavier than I expected.

This is a drinkable hefe. The banana qualities are strong, and I like that but it's to the detriment of other nice hefe characteristics.

A- Poured into a weizen glass... yellowish color with a thick bubbly head that recedes slowly. Beer appears to be somewhat active... no lacing

S- Smells sweet and fruity... maybe a hint of banana bread smell

T- Not as sweet as the smell leads you to believe... has some banana flavor as well as some citrus. Has a nice clean taste the whole way through

M- Light bodied, light carbonation... smooth

D- Not the best hefe, but very drinkable... specially good summer beer

Pours hazy yellow, with a small head that quickly disintegrates into nothingness. No head retention at all. Not very Hefeweizen-like so far. I'm picking up a lot of clove in the aroma. The banana is faint. The aroma is actually pretty good - previously when I heard people describe clove in the aroma of a hefe, I wasn't quite sure what they meant, but I am picking it up on this beer. But the banana is more like some artificial flavor, like when you make banana flavor in organic chemistry lab. The taste isn't great, kind of a muddled banana flavor with a weird twang in the finish. The alcohol is not very well hidden for a 5% beer. Ok, by now the appearance is really terrible. It looks like a glass full of apple cider. The mouthfeel is also not great - thin, prickly, and astringent. Still, I would say this beer is drinkable...if someone else was buying.

12 oz bottle.

Pours a hazy honey gold with a tint of orange from the light. Has a slightly coarse white head that dissipates to a film.

Smells of malts and wheat. Not as sweet or citrusy as other hefes.

Tastes smooth and lemony with good fresh wheat tones. Not especially complex but the tastes fit together well.

Feels smooth and moderate in terms of body. Not especially carbonated.

A nice hefe, probably one of my favorites that I've had in the style. East to drink and easy to session on a warm day.

Pours a hazy straw yellow color. The smell is of wheat and some lemon as well, not a strong smell but a nice decent aroma. The taste of the beer is some and refreshing with wheat up front and lemon coming through at the back. The mouthfeel is smooth and very lightly carbonated. The drinkability is good, this is a slightly above average beer for the category.

On tap at the brewery in Bridgewater Corners this beer was a cloudy gold color with some tangerine highlights and a good amount of rising carbonation. The two finger head displayed very good retention as a thin layer and streaky lacing. The aroma was of wheat, citrus, crystal malt and lemon zest. The flavors were very citrusy with wheat as well, hints of banana from the Belgian yeast, a background of crystal malt and a light bitterness at the end. Refreshing and balanced. The mouthfeel was slightly watery, the body medium and the carbonation good.

Poured a hazy light copper hue with a one finger foamy white head. There was decent retention and lacing.

The smell featured a light wheat malt and very few esters.

The taste consisted of a smooth malt, trace amounts of wheat and some lemon.

The mouthfeel was toward the lighter side of the style.

Overall a decent wheat ale.

12 oz bottle poured into a pilsner - fridge - 2009

Appearance: Upon first glance I notice that the level of beer in the bottle is down more than 2" from the cap. Here goes nothing. Pours a cloudy, golden yellow with orange hues. The head climbs 2" with it's whiteness. Great retention and visible carbonation activity. Not much lace.

Smell: Strong, sweet, yeasty aromas pop out at me. Heavily cloved, some banana and a brettanomyces-like yeast aroma. Lemon and peach fruitiness. An overall wheat aroma.

Taste: Crisp malt and wheat flavors differ from what the aroma teased me with. A touch of floral hops and lemon, along with some clove. The flavors aren't as developed as the aroma.

Mouthfeel: Crisp, clean, light body with lots of turbidity. No apparent alcohol with some phenolic tones.

Drinkability: A definite summer session beer that is close to being a superb brew. The flavors are lacking, but otherwise a great beer.

Poured from the 12 oz bottle pictured above into a pint glass. Poured a hazy, cloudy yellow - clear evidence of the unflitering. Small foam, modest retention.

Smell was citrus - more lemon than anything else. Slightly malty. Very little banana.

Taste was clean, crisp, controlled by the citrus. Moderately tart, but never overwhelmingly so. Went down very smooth.

A very drinkable summer beer. A solid hefe, though not the best I've ever had.

12oz. bottle served in my Weihenstephan weizen glass. Poured an almost translucent orange-gold with a one inch bright white head pockmarked with tiny ringlets. Head dissipated fairly quickly into a soapy skim and a tight band around the perimeter; no lacing here. Nose reveals coriander, yeast, clove and a light wheaty character. Taste consistent with nose, but more wheaty and yeasty than the nose suggested (the reverse of the nose in terms of intensity of armomas). Mouthfeel is light and lively with a little citrus astringency at the finish. Easy drinking and good for warm weather, but missing the classic German hefe qualities (banana, bubblegum, german yeast) - somewhat lackluster in comparison.

Served very bright slightly cloudy Yellow.
Smells of Citrus,Orange and Lemon.

This is one of the Best Hefe's I have had in a long time. Smooth fruity Orange lemon, citrus flavor with just the right amount of Hops it is a big winner in Flavor. This is just what a good Hefe should be.
It is highly refreshing in your mouth and totally Enjoyable.
This one not only is a very drinkable beer but it almost tells you have another one Please, its that good. If you can get this give it a try!

Appearance: Very nice, golden and cloudy. Just the right amount of cloudiness. Poured nicely, with an alright head that didn't seem to last long.

Smell: The smell was very nice and crisp. Pleasant.

Taste: Very refreshing. Went down smooth and the carbonation was a good balance, I thought. Right amount of hops for this one, not too little.

Mouthfeel: I enjoyed the carbonation the most about this one.

Drinkability - could easily have a few while out working in the yard.

Enjoyed on draught at a local eatery. Served in a standard 20oz. pint glass.

A - Dirty yellow appearance, not as cloudy as I would have liked, I'm not sure if this is a product of the beverage being on-tap as opposed to being bottled which usually captures some of the sediment.
S - A very strong yeast scent along with a hint of banana.
T - It wasn't great for a Hefe, but it wasn't terrible either. I'm not sure if my taste buds were over-active but there was an extremely strong taste of banana that made it almost unpleasant to drink.
D - Went down smooth, it was a seasonably warm spring day and this capped off a long Friday.
M - Not too bold, just enough to make it enjoyable. I'm typically a 2 beer guy with dinner but in this case I only had just the one.

A) Yellow to light golden in color. Visible carbonation from bottom to the top. Pours with very thin head that dissipates quickly. Slight haze (to be expected).
S) Yeasty, with vibrant notes of sweet citrus closely resembling orange. Also an small earthy scent, and the only comparison I can think of is sweaty feet - this is most likely linked to the yeast aroma.
T) The citrus aroma carries into the taste, but not nearly as bold. A mellow, orange and a slight lemon tang.
M) Customary of a Hefe, a little bit chewy with a medium body. A crispness on the front side then mellows out.
D) A decent Hefeweizen, clean taste, and refreshing.

This beer poured a light pale yellow with a thin amount of head that receded quickly. The lemon/citrus smell jumped out of it and the taste follows suit. Very light and crisp with a nice citrus note. The aftertaste is mostly lemon with minimal dryness. This is a good brew for a hot day, very drinkable but only gets a B from me because I believe a heffeweizen should have some more haziness to it. This beer could benefit from some complexity added by yeast- phenols/clove/banana taste.

I poured from a 12 ounce glass into a standard pint glass. The brew is hazy yellow with a moderate white head. The aroma is big lemon and bubble gum notes. The flavor follows the nose, but is a bit too sweet. The beer is light bodied, highly carbonated and easily quaffable. A solid brew, a bit sweet, and lacking the classic "clove and bannana".

this beer pours a hazy golden color with a frothy white head. the aroma is citrus, lemon and a hint of spice. the taste follows with the citrusy flavor up front, and a bit of spice in the back. not a bad beer even with its slightly watery mouthfeel. an easy drinker, although not my favorite in this style.

The beer pours a hazy pale gold color with a thick frothy white head that slowly fades to lacing. The aroma is decent. It has a nice pale and wheat malt scent along with a refreshing banana/clove aroma. There also seems to be some lemon zest in there as well. The taste is average. It's a tastey brew, but it's thinner and less estery than your traditional hefe. This has a crisp wheat flavor that goes down smooth and finishes with minimal banana/clove and more lemony zest. The mouthfeel is decent. It is a medium bodied beer with good carbonation. This is a good drinking beer, but just an average hefe.

Pours cloudy dirty straw gold with 2 fingers of foamy white head that fades quickly leaving a little bit of spotty lacing. Smells big of banana right from the start along with some clove, bubblegum, and a touch of yeast. Tastes of banana and clove up front then some yeast and wheat with a bubblegum finish mixed with a touch of lemon. Medium light in body with good carbonation. Really fruity and smooth with a slightly dry finish. A good hefe, but a little too much over-ripe banana presence can make it a little sickening to want to session or drink daily.

Golden yellow, two finders of head that settled quickly. Very obvious banana smell that ends up a little weaker in the taste, with a lot of lemon in there too. A little watery, the mouthfeel was a little disappointing.

Overall: not bad, not great either. Harpoon's UFO is in the same class, and I'd prefer it to the Long Trail.

Served from a bottle into a sam adams glass; no date shown.

A: pours golden, clear; then clouds as the yeast is roused into the glass. 1 finger head that quickly dissipates.

S: banana is present even before lifting the glass; combines with clove and bubblegum aromas as I lift the glass.

T: hints of banana and clove present in the flavor but muted; some tartness. Most notable flavor is lemon. Cardboard flavor makes it seem like this beer was oxidized, and dominates the second half of the taste. Perhaps this is why the other flavors are somewhat muted.

M: light like a weissbier, but lacks the effervescence.

D: Unfortunately the cardboard flavor made this one tought to drink. Without a date on the bottle, it is difficult to know if this was old stock or a flaw in the process that led to oxidation. I would like the opportunity to try this again, as the lack of this flavor could have made this a notable weissbier with its lemon/tartness.
