Had on-tap at Boat Works in St. Clair Shores for $6.50 a pint or something like that.
What is there to say about this beer... well, I was intrigued because I haven't had many barreled IPAs, so that's the main reason I went with this, even though it seemed to get fairly average scores for a beer that's been in a bourbon barrel. The highlight of this beer? The appearance. The head on it with the lacing is borderline ridiculous. The worst part about Pig Pen is the mouthfeel... it seems too thin for the style, the ABV, and the fact that it was in a barrel. The smell and taste are pretty good, moreso as it warms up. The bourbon barrel character is undeniable, as there is a lot of that bourbony, vanilla, oaky sort of thing on the nose and in the taste. The smell and taste are almost exactly the same. For me, it seems like the barrel takes most of the flavor in this beer. That's not a bad thing, but Pig Pen lacks a certain depth of flavor I'd like. Barrelbarrelbarrel without a thick mouthfeel or robust flavor... it needs more.
A respectable beer, but it won't turn you on to barreled beers if you still aren't into them.

A - Very copper color with about 2 finger paper white head that dissipates after the first sip and leaves a solid lacing around the glass as the volume decreases.
S - Nothing really pronounced. Served at cask temperature you pick up a bit of the floral hops but nothing really lashes out.
T - Immediately hit by an familiar and average IPA blast. Upon swallow, the bourbon barrel characteristics emerge but nothing spectacular. The finish exits with a familiar sting of grapefruit and floral notes.
M - At 7%+, I thought it had quite a light mouthfeel. Average carbonation allows for an easy sipper and those who like IPAs but not heavy BBA beers will enjoy.
O - Decent for Short's BA program that produces reliable beers but leaves much to be desired.
