Barrel Aged Belgian Golden Ale
Golden Eagle is a mixed culture Belgian Golden Strong Ale brewed with Blond Candi Sugar and aged in wine barrels. Bright with a golden color, Golden Eagle has a funky farmhouse aroma with notes of oak and alcohol. Medium-bodied and dry, the flavors in this beer range from grape to funk and oak followed by finish of bubblegum and warming alcohol.

This was interesting, there is a lot going on with Golden Eagle, some I likea lot and some not so much. I'd forgotten before opening the crowler that this one goes through a re-fermention with Brett, so there was a lot of surprise when a giant barnyard aroma came wafting up from the pour. Ale is rosy gold in color (from spending time in wine barrels, I assume) with big funky aromas mixed with sweet sugar, clove, grape juice, pear, apple, banana, and white bread.
Flavor is a ridiculously complex thing: oak, booze, sour pucker, funk, white grapes, banana, pear, clove, rock candy, spice, and, yes, bubblegum. I quite enjoyed it, but I'd be interested in trying it without the Brett. A wine barrel aged Belgian Golden Strong sounds good about now.
