FLOAD is a Dark American Sour Ale brewed with raspberries. Very dark in color with a red hue and mauve head, this beer smells of fresh fruit, sour raspberries, and a hint of chocolate. Leading with an intense raspberry tartness, FLOAD is complemented with a light chocolate malty backbone. The finish is dry with lingering sourness.

12 fl. oz. bottle
Served in a sour glass
This beer pours very dark brown with some, ever so faint, garnet highlights. It is topped with an inch of tan head that leaves spotty lacing.
The smell is sour with tart raspberries and hints of milk chocolate.
The taste starts out sour and fruity. Tart raspberry gives way to milk chocolate. This doesn't sound like a good sour to me, but it is.
Medium bodied with a semi dry mouthfeel
I am beginning to respect Short's sour game. I have very much enjoyed the last few that I tried.

Nice black cherry appearance in the glass, minimal head recedes quickly. Really vivid raspberry flavor and funk complimented by a rich, roasted, indulgent malt. Finish is sour, lingers, dry. This is a nice beer at a great price point, but not exceptional.

A - Very dark body, purple-red to black and opaque, with no head and no lacing, and very little sign of carbonation.
S - Fruit forward, with berry tartness tingling the nose and lactic acidity bolstering the sharp nose.
T - Brisk fruit open, full of fresh raspberry flavor, a bit of funk and acidity, followed by a dark chocolate bite with just a hint of sweetness. The close is a fade of acidity, not harsh but present.
M - Very little carbonation, but strong acidity prickliness that fades quickly. Lingers on the tongue, suggesting a bit of warmth.
O - Quite tasty, avoids the cough syrup trap and delivers a full lush raspberry brew.

Burst of tart fresh raspberry. Dark coloration and very little head. Subtle malt. High abv not readily apparent. I'm not a huge fan fruit/sour beers but was interested in the Short's offering since I visited the brewery while it was being bottled. The smell was amazing. I love to mix it with a good Porter. It's an amazing combination.

Coffee brown with blackberry highlights. Nice pink-grey-beige head of 1 finger that stays.
Very strange aroma of chemicals, manure, and raspberries. Not particularly appetizing.
Flavor is an otherworldly sort of awful. It's like cherries dipped in steaming shit, paint chips, then some sweet and sour fruit, some dark chocolate, some lactic funk, light metallic, and horseblanket.
Feel is crisp and clinging to the palate. Nice pucker from the yeast and raspberries.
Overall sorry for the graphic description but I'm not really digging this one. The back end of it is fine but you have to get past that overwhelming manure taste that only gets worse as it warms.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 12/6/2017. Pours slightly hazy dark ruby red, light copper/brown color with a 2 finger dense light khaki head with awesome retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big juicy/tart/tangy raspberries, fruit skin/seeds, cranberry, cherry, raisin, plum, lemon, green apple, red grape/wine, hay, straw, grass, caramel, brown sugar, and toasted brown bread; with lighter notes of chocolate, cocoa, musty funk, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, raspberries, and dark/bready/light roast malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big juicy/tart/tangy raspberries, fruit skin/seeds, cranberry, cherry, raisin, plum, lemon, green apple, red grape/wine, hay, straw, grass, caramel, brown sugar, and toasted brown bread; with lighter notes of chocolate, cocoa, musty funk, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Light-moderate fruity/lactic tartness and fruit tang on the finish. Lingering notes of tart/tangy raspberries, fruit skin/seeds, cranberry, cherry, raisin, plum, lemon, green apple, red grape/wine, hay, straw, grass, caramel, brown sugar, toasted brown bread, light chocolate/cocoa, musty funk, and yeast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, raspberries, and dark/bready/light roast malt flavors; with an awesome malt/tartness and tangy fruit balance; with zero puckering/astringent flavors after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from tartness and tangy fruit. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready, and acidic/tangy/tannic balanced mouthfeel that is fantastic. Minimal warming alcohol for 8.9%. Overall this is a fantastic sour brown ale! All around outstanding complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, raspberries, and dark/bready/light roast malt flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to drink for the ABV with the modestly acidic/tangy/drying finish, not overly lactic. Insanely jammy raspberries, with balanced Brett/Lacto complexity, and dark/bready/lightly roast malt sweetness. A highly enjoyable offering, and wonderful style example.
