A: opaque; very dark brown - almost black in color; 1 finger finely pored medium brown head that receded to a wispy cap; light lacing;

S: distinctly bittersweet chocolate;

T: deeply roasted grain, bourbon, vanilla, and bittersweet chocolate; moderate bitterness on the finish; as it warmed, the whiskey and vanilla faded and the deeply roasted grain came to the forefront;

M: medium to full bodied; moderate carbonation; dry finish;

O: nicely complex;

Medium black pour with a finger of light brown foam. Smells like stouts of old: classic dark malt, chocolate sauce with maple and bourbon. Taste is sweeter than nose revealed, maple and chocolate run away with it before the bourbon and vanillin laden oak capture, brownie and light roasted malt result. Feel is medium light bodied, smooth, surprisingly cool, barrel impact is significant but short lived, a flash in the pan as it were.

Zowzer! That’s a zinger! So much maple that I need pancakes to absorb the flavor! This is definitely a syrupy alcohol that will make your hair stand.

A very tasty, albeit light bourbon barrel offering. No rich luxurious body, no huge roast flavor, but some very nice Maple, bourbon, and barrel characteristics like vanilla and toasted coconut. Pretty great beer all things considered.

Brief Review:

Was super excited to try this super beer. Never made distro, but was lucky to get a local crowler. A little disappointed here, comes across thin, bourbon not too strong. Hurt by the thin base beer (Uncle Steve’s I think?). But overall not too bad.

Recommendation: Tough to find, but still worth trying if you’re a big Short’s fan.

DATE: January 28, 2021... OCCASION: the leadoff hitter for this year's Extreme Beer Fest--with Jerry, the gift's bestower, no less! GLASSWARE: EBF plastic cup... pours a jet black body with dark brown head, a slight smear that may suggest strength... aroma includes light maple, heat, roasted bread malts, coffee--which someone noted in the forum, despite the brewer stating there isn't any in this... medium-bodied, lingering finish, effervescent and engaging...a bit punchy even... a sweet finish, with the maple subdued and the malts pushed forward.... this is indeed a delicious start to the night, solid in every phase, strong in its weight, and highly drinkable (though I believe the brewer estimated the ABV% at 7.9, not 9.7)...

Pours black with a dense tan head. Beautiful beer. The barrel jumps in feet first on the nose, and the maple is a nice complement to the bourbon and chocolate notes.

The taste is led by the barrel, and the maple is on point, with the chocolate notes providing some depth, but this leans more toward the imperial porter side of the ledger than a BA stout.

It is still delicious, and I’m glad it was part of the EBF party.

Super Delicious Stout, Beer Fest Edition from Short’s Brew. Received on 20/1/21 for the Extreme Beer Fest – Cyberspace (2021) from Half-Time, Poughkeepsie, NY. $ 109.99 (Including tax and shipping). This is a 12 oz bottle ($ 0.702/oz). Stored at home at 42 degrees. Reviewed 11/2/21. (Note: I use DD/MM/YY protocol.)
On neck of bottle in black ink “PKG 12/11/20”. Served at 54.6 degrees in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. Final temperature 57.7 degrees.
Appearance – 3.5.
First pour – Ruby Brown (SRM 24), murky and nearly opaque.
Body – Black (SRM 40), opaque. When rear-lite, still opaque but just a hint of ruby at the extreme edge.
Head – Average (Maximum four cm, aggressive center pour), fawn, high density, short retention, diminishing to a three to four mm crown, and a thin partial cap.
Lacing – Fair. Partial band of nearly microscopic bubbles.
Aroma – 4. – Heavy bourbon and some fleeting maple, no hops, no yeast.
Flavor – 3.5 – Odd. Very weak bourbon and about as much roasted malt as an AAL. No hops, no yeast, no maple. Slightly sweet. No alcohol (7.5 % ABV, according to BA) flavor or aroma, but a transitory alcohol warming appears then dies after each swallow.
Palate – 3.5 – Medium, approaching creamy, soft carbonation.
Final impression and summation: 3.75 Best beer I’ve ever had from Short’s – Not super, not delicious, and more of a porter than a stout.

This beer had a LOT of carbonation, especially for a stout, but the complexity it achieved from its unique barrel aging was outstanding. I wish I had another bottle of it.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass
Appearance – The brew pours a deep-dark brown color with a one finger head of tan foam. The head fades rather fast leaving a tiny bit of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the brew is strong of a very roasty and toasty smell mixed with a big showing of chocolate and mixed with a touch of vanilla and maple. Along with these smells comes some aromas of raisin and plum. Overall, the smell is akin to a nice fudgy brownie.
Taste – The taste begins with a nice roasty and toasty malt flavor mixed with some flavors of lots of milk chocolate, some brown sugar, as well as a caramel and maple sweetness. As the taste advances more and more chocolate work its way onto the tongue, creating a very rich brownie like taste. Toward the end more roastiness and a touch of earthiness comes to the tongue, and along with a touch of booziness, one is left with a boozy brownie taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is chewier and thicker with a carbonation level that is low. The thickness and body is fantastic for the style and makes for a big and robust sipper.
Overall – A nice rich and robust stout with a big sweet and big brownie like feel with a nice sweet and flavorfulness. A rather rich and robust chocolate stout.

Look - black and looks thick with a nice tan head
Smell - lots of maple strong booze with maybe molasses and bourbon
Taste - roasty and toasty with slight maple
Feel - pretty thin light carb
Overall - lacking the taste I was hoping for after smelling it and it's way to thin as well

Dark brown with modest tan head. It's aroma is Maple & whisky. Interestingly, the whisky barrels used are filled maple syrup, then beer, then whisky again to produce 3 different types of whisky & this beer. Sweet with some mild bitterness. Plenty of roasted malt flavors, maple goodness, fudge & whiskey. Its scent & taste imply a much higher ABV than 7.5. Thick & silky smooth. It is very appropriately named, Super Delicious Stout.

Pleasant change from the barrel aged 11+% genre. Pleasant aroma is whisky coffee berry chocolate. Coffee-whisky taste gave way to prominent berry as it warmed up. Feel is a bit thin but at 7.5 abv, would be expected. Overall, this was a great stout when you know you need to drive home.

Pours dark brown/black with a minimal tan head. Aroma is chocolate and dark berry and whisky and very pleasant. Taste is whisky, maple and roasted malts. Taste is big for the ABV. Feel is creamy but a bit thin for a stout with this flavor but still solid. Overall it's a fantastic stout especially for a 7.5% brew.

12oz bottle served in a sample glass. Part of Extreme Beer Fest.

Pours black, medium head that fades to a clumpy ring. Smell is bourbon and lots of maple, strong anise.

Taste is odd -- like an over-roasted, regular stout, with tons of anise and coffee and a little plum, and booze like it's twice as strong as it really is.

Mouthfeel is super dry, surprisingly light. Overall, it's all right.

Bottle from Half-time/BA for EBF 2021.Pours black with a finger of foamy medium tan head, nice lacing, smell is sticky toffee cake, maple syrup, bourbon, molasses, burnt caramel, and fudge, taste is roasted malts, maple syrup, bourbon, chocolate milk, and a nice coffee and milk chocolate finish, feel is light to medium bodied, light carbonation. A pungent, roasty, enigma, love the low ABV on a barrel aged stout, still packs a punch of flavor with a quaffable mouthfeel, super delicious indeed.

Cyber EBF 2021 #3
Lush looking. Deep roil of burnished Spanish leather in hue. A dense, bountiful, mocha head is almost milky in appearance.
Nose abounds with roasted malts, whiskey barrel, baker's chocolate, coffee, but no maple. But even though I am a lover of maple, I am NOT disappointed. This nose is amazing.
Flavor is now presenting the whiskey barrel, but not in a hot way. It's round and toasty, gently kissed by a whiskey sweetness. But a toasted barrel note comes in as well as hints of earthy grain. Hints of cocoa peak in as well.
Medium to full in mouth. A most inviting warming comes in, but by no means is this one "hot."
Overall, this one is great. Reading "maple bourbon" barrels, I might hope for more hints of maple. I didn't pick up maple. But no matter, such an excellent stout

Pours a pitch black color, completely opaque and actually rather viscous. Thin tan head appears on the beer before dissipating leaving just a thin layer of foam on top of the beer. Aroma has notes of roasted malts, bourbon soaked oak, slightly musty, Some light notes of chocolate. Has some resemblance to a milk stout aged in bourbon barrels. The taste follows the nose with notes of roasted malts, chocolate, vanilla, whiskey, oak, hints of maple, just a delicious straightforward yet complex stout. Feel is lighter than I expected for this this - its more moderately bodied, smooth, drier on the finish. Overall its a delicious stout and a joy to drink.

Description sounds like it would be an outstanding beer. Pours pitch black with a brown head. Raw oak barrel scent with some alcohol notes. Tastes Ok. The maple syrup and whiskey flavors from the barrel are not very strong. Body is thinner than expected. Overall, seems like it would be better with a touch of chocolate.

Dark brown, approaching black, with a creamy-looking mocha head that leaves a lasting wisp, crown and solid lacing. Marshmallow, light smoke, umami and a little cherry-tinted bourbon in the nose. The same elements carry to the taste with just a kiss of maple, some char and flat, unsweetened root beer added to the mix. Fairly full bodied, creamy, for the style with strong carbonation. Nice, not-boozy RIS impressions in this — with a 7.5% body.

Round 3! Here, we have a stout aged in maple bourbon barrels. I’ve mentioned before that I have a bias towards maple in beer, but it can go so very wrong. Given this was brewed exclusively for the fest, I’m hoping that it’ll be of the highest quality

Pours completely pitch black with a finger of dark brown head that fades to a ring and leaves decent lacing

I’m picking up on aromas of sweet maple, some spicy rye, milk chocolate, a touch of roasty coffee, and caramel malt

Mehh, it doesn’t quite translate to the taste as well. On the front end I’m picking up on notes of light cacao and maple. The swallow brings a bit of oak, more spicy rye, and sweet maple

A full body pairs with gentle carbonation for a a silky and rather heavy beer. Finishes mostly dry

A pretty average stout, not really too much barrel character but at least the maple comes through

Black and dark with a tan head. OD = infinity

Whiskey? It smells like bourbon or whiskey with a hint of chocolate.

Malty with a bit of boozy taste. Tastes like someone spiked my beer with bourbon or whiskey.

This is full bodied. Its not overly malty or sweet, but I can taste maple and bourbon. This would taste great on ice cream or pancakes.

A - Dark brown pour with soapy tan lacing.

S - Bourbon, chocolate roast, cherry, fudge brownie. Overall nose is boozie which is a brain teaser for a 7.2% beer.

T - Maple, roasted chocolate, fudge brownie, and light char. Nice lingering fudge.

M - Medium body with some thinness around the edges.

O - This is a deceptive beer. Comes across as bigger than it really is.
