Served on tap in a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a clear golden amber color with a one finger head of white foam. The head fades rather fast, leaving a touch of lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma is massive of a sweet watermelon smell mixed with a good showing of wheat. Along with these smells are a bit of bready malt and a touch of grass and herb.
Taste – While the sweet watermelon is huge in the nose; it is not as big on the tongue. By no means is it not pronounced, but is it less sweet than one may anticipate from the smell. It starts with a drier watermelon taste mixed with notes of wheat and a bready malt. The watermelon is a mix of watermelon flesh and watermelon peel keeping everything on a middle of the road sweetness. As the taste advanced the wheat gets a bit more intense, while the breadliness fades, and with a touch of citrus, one is left with a drier watermelon and easy natured taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body is light with respects to thickness and is rather moderate in carbonation. A lightly higher carbonation level would have been nice, but overall, the feel was pretty good.
Overall – A nice easy drinking and refreshing watermelon beer, that creates a nice compliment to a heavier briquet and rib meal. Good for Smoked BBQ.
