Greetings, everybody. We're having a beautiful fall day so far, and I plan on spending as much of it as I can outdoors. Even if that means doing work . To make that work go just that much easier a beer or should do the trick.

My first new one of the day is this dandy Schwartzbier from Uinta-
    [IMG]
    Baba Black Lager

Initial aroma is a seamless blend of cocoa powder, toffee-like malts and dried flowers and spiciness from the hops. If anything the hops speak the loudest, but not by much. The flavor is just as seamless and velvety, malt dominated with just a hint of the roast character coming on late. The finish is bitter and dry, with an unfortunate astringency that creeps in near the end. Other than that, it's a clean, well constructed Schwartzbier, perfect for days like this. 3.85 (B+), and would drink again. If another sample came across without the astringency that would certainly increase the score- good stuff.

I had another brew ready to go, but it turns out I had reviewed it back in March. Then a bit of a nap. Now back with a highly anticipated release, and one I look forward to every year. Apparently @Bitterbill and I had the same thoughts while beer shopping while several hundred miles apart: http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/63/175162/

Good Morning NBS, Thanks as always to @cavedave for getting us going and focused.
If I could present a new beer but had on Saturday from our recent trip to the San Francisco bay area.
As are home now. An English IPA on cask from Freewheel Brewing had at a fine place near the
Golden Gate Park. Lite caramel, slight bitter, and wonderful mouth feel, soft water profile fuels the experience.
    Cheers all

    English IPA

    FreeWheel Brewing Company
English India Pale Ale (IPA) / 5.20% ABV

    3.95/5 rDev +2.3% | Avg: 3.86
    look: 3.75 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 4 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4

We experienced this on cask at the Pig and Whistle in San Francisco.
A - Light Amber colored, slight carbonation and a wonderful full sphere froth.
No lacing as it was cask conditioned.
S - Caramel, toffee, deciduous, and a bit of citrus.
T - Malt base (Maris Otter) wonderful English textures, with slight bitterness, smooth malt backbone,
    A hint of citrus.
F - Cask equals round mouth feel, smooth palate, and gentle carbonation. An absolute delight.
O - A fine ale with grounded efforts on the style. An English IPA with enough hop bite to get over that ESB
stereotype. In this case a New Englander in the Bay Area finding a fine, and flavorful English IPA on Cask was to be treasured. Worth seeking out for certain.
    Cheers

    Big, complex, and refreshing!

    4.31/5 rDev +2.6%
    look: 4 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4 | overall: 4.25

Poured from cork and cage bottle into pint glass. The color is a ruby-brown with a thin, milk white head and moderate lacing. The smell is a pleasant combination of cherry, malt, caramel, cinnamon, and other spices. The initial taste is big, tart cherry, followed by oaky dark malt, cinnamon, clove, pepper, and a sweet caramel-vanilla finish. Notwithstanding a fairly explosive cork-pop, this ale is only lightly carbonated and medium-bodied and it masks the 9.6 ABV quite well. Overall, it is a tart, refreshing ale with a big, complex taste. I would really like to try it on draught.

Ok, so a rare second NBS entry, but I bought a couple of singles of Otter Creek's Couch Surfer Oatmeal Stout at Joe Canals today. I've really been enjoying Otter Creek's renaissance and I haven't had this one yet, so...
Anyway, it pours so black, so impossibly black! Has a bit of that great baked sweet oatmeal breakfast treat going on with the aroma. Taste is a bit of a let down after that. Mouthfeel good, not too thin, a bit slick. I find it to be your generic stout, not earth-shattering but solid nonetheless. It just doesn't stand out to me. Don't get me wrong, I'd drink it if it was offered to me, but I wouldn't go out of my way to buy it again.

    New American Double IPA Sunday!

Did a nice little hike today, around low 80s, and sunny here on the Western Slopes. This is my second brew from this brewery, this one is also pretty tasty, different though than most DIPAs, I like it. Should be going over to the CNM tonight to see the lunar/eclipse/sun event. Also, this is my 2800th review, hopefully more to come.

Now we've got another NC visit beer. Devil's Tramping Ground Trippel from Aviator Brewing

Pretty "meh" pour, as fizzy momentary head sits atop this stark yellow beer. Looks like ample carbonation, for good or bad.

Nose is right away a touch soapy and buttery. This isn't foreshadowing anything good, but we'll delve further.

So the taste. Things are looking up actually. Nice sharp banana wrapped clove that rolls into a malty "ish" finish that's actually sorta hot. Nice heat in the back of the throat.

Glad I didn't judge this book by its, well, smell. Pretty decent I say.

Had to make a quick trip to Nashville yesterday, but managed to pick up a few goodies before coming home...

Today's new beer is Schlafly's Tasmanian IPA. Nice floral hops and plenty of citrus aromas and flavors. Surprisingly little hop bitterness but plenty of hop flavor. An excellent IPA for sure!

Went for a long bike ride this afternoon. It is still cloudy and I fear we will not be able to see the Lunar Eclipse tonight. :slight_frown:

Perrin No Rules is a big beer and really tasty!

Quite sweet with plenty of cinnamon, maple, bourbon, vanilla, milk chocolate. Not much for roasted malt aroma or coffee, but it sure smells wonderful. The initial flavor is maple sugar along with cinnamon. Plenty of coconut and chocolate as it warms along with the bourbon, vanilla and marshmallow. It is sweet, but not cloying in any way. Enjoyable sipper that will light up your taste buds. It is thin, but smooth and velvety. I prefer it this way because it keeps it easy to drink with the high ABV.

WOW! With an appearance that nice, and you gave it only a 3.75 is crazy. That's an easy 4.25 at least, fuck the color, you cannot do anything about it, the head, retention, and I can only image the lacing. Bad Call!

    Cheers!

My new beer is also Uintah - Hop Nosh IPA. Went to TW looking for Oktoberfest beers and other seasonals, but decided to get this, because I had yet to tick Utah, and wanted to try one fro Uinta. I may be getting jaded with IPAs as I gave this a good but not stellar review, though it seems a solid IPA.

Hop Nosh is a pretty tasty IPA, not sure what your numbers were in a review, but it is better than just "good".

This deep gold beer straddles the line between hazy and cloudy; its brief-lived large pebbly off-white head leaves moderate rafts of lacing. The nose is big and juicy: fresh tangy pineapple towers against a background of pine and florals and hints of alcohol, straightforward but nice. Up front, the palate is mostly bitter pineapple, but the flavor broadens mid-palate as the requisite pine/floral soapiness appears along with some fennel-seed-like dark herbal notes and a nice view of the lightly toasted bready malt backbone. Significant alcohol notes are present on the end, and the hoppy bitterness has built to a nice level at this point. The finish is astringent from the alcohol, but fairly clean flavorwise, with just a bit of soapy pine left behind; after a second or so a style-appropriate level of hops bitterness sets in and lingers for a good while. The mouthfeel is maybe a bit biggish for the medium body, and the texture is creamy and prickly form the strong carbonation. This is a reasonably balanced Imperial IPA, somewhat more hoppy than malty. The Iron Maiden font on the can is a bonus.

Rainy and cold morning needs a warming beverage. Fortunately I have Baltic Porter (8%) from Garage Project, Wellington, NZ. Located in the country's capital at the southern tip of the north island, this brewery has become my favorite handcraft provider of liquid goodness:

Black with garnet on the edges; light shines through from top to bottom of glass, so outstanding clarity; thin beige head reduced quickly leaving good lace. 4.75

Roasted malt and lite fruity esters on the initial sniff; prunes and sugary raisins as the liquid continues to warm; no hop presence noted; caramel malt and toasted nuts. 4.25

Roasted caramel malt and toasted nuts flavors up front; a pleasant bitter malt co-mingles nicely with prune and semi sweet raisins - alcohol is here too, but is woven seamlessly within the smooth roast and fruit flavors. 4.5

Medium plus carbonation, as well as mouthfeel. Rich, smooth tongue coating. My mouth feels full, enjoying the roast malt/dry fruit. 4.25

A little warming alcohol, semi sweet dark fruits and malt, with a bitter nutty roast - simply, well done. 4.25

Another well made Porter...perfect for a rainy day; fortunately for me, it rains here almost daily...Cheers!
