Was that the 2015 version. I had the 2014 and thought it was pretty good with no off aromas or flavors- nice take though!

Well, I've been busy all day with Mother's Day. I'm not complaining at all. I love my wife dearly, the 2 beautiful children she gave me, and the person she helps me be (at least try to be).

But, I'm also pretty stoked to have my first "NBS daye." HAHA @ONovoMexicano is in town. He reached out and we're about to go hit some local breweries. He's not a stranger to this locale, so I don't get to play full on host/tour guide, but it'll be great to hang out with him. And on NBS to boot.

So hopefully we'll both be able to post something new.

    To be continued...

Mt Mitchell IPA from Natty Greens. It's ok, smells better than it tastes. This six was free I don't believe I'd spend $10 on this beer. Single hop using Eureka hops, funny they don't feel the need to share this on the bottle, I had to look it up.

Greetings from the Ruby Princess, NBSers!!!!! Only one new beer for me today, and we are literally just beginning to move away from the dock, so this will be brief.

This is brewed for Princess by Strike Brewing Company out of San Jose. It looks the part of an IPA, but the nose is thin and the taste may be thinner. It's not horrible, but it is not worth pursuing - unless you're on a cruise to Alaska and the cruise line won't let you mule any beer (at all) onto the ship. Rated 3.53.

And a couple of pics of our departure from Seattle. Have a wonderful Sunday, NBSers.

Greetings All and Happy Mother's Day to all the Mom's out there.

Today we have Hop Slice IPA a seasonal offering from Deschutes.
    http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/63/212089/

A light IPA with a clean character and a citrus bitterness. Not the best brew in the Deschutes stable, but I'll certainly have more of this as the summer wears on. And as my stash of Red Chair APA dwindles.

Sunny and warm today, temps in the upper 70's, but breezy.

I have the Mother's Day pork roast on the grill at her request and both kids are home today, so life is good.

    Until next time,

    Happy Trails!

A beer so black it literally changed the lighting...
    [IMG] [IMG]

Chocolaty roasted malts and blackstrap molasses on the nose...
Full-bodied, bearing all the dark and bittersweet chocolates I'd expected, but it was surprisingly and pleasing dry - not nearly as sweet as I'd expected, which added a refined quality to the brew. Little coat on the tongue and stickiness in the corner of the mouth, wet and drying chocolate-paste finish lingers...

This'll carry me through to Game of Thrones tonight - pretty psyched for tonight's episode...

    Catch you cool kids later...

Think this is my first time posting in NBS. For my 32nd birthday today, I finally got around to pulling this out of the cellar. I love ABT 12 and brandy-barreled beers, but I think in this case the whole is less than the sum of the parts. Still a very nice beer, and glad to have tried it, but I'll be content with regular going forward.

Just received a case at the store on Friday.
    Nice, light tan head.
Slight raisin, slight toffee, slight nougat, slight bourbon on the nose.
Understated, but, it all seems to work very well together.
Taste follows the nose a bit with some chocolate as it warms. Very nice.
Creamy mouthfeel that enhances the experience even more.
Overall, I know a few people I can share this with that would really enjoy it!

That's a great beer glass, who's makes that bad boy? That's one hell of a frothy brew you can actually blow the top off that one.

Good evening NBS, Many thanks to @utopiajane, for the inspired start. I hope your mothers day was filled with delight.
To the moms, thank you! This week has been busy with some treats for my sweetheart, an inspiring Mother herself. Both those boys of ours called in today to say the right thing, leading to a smile and a far away look. We spent some time in Quebec, ate and drank well (not in excess), we saw amazing show, Today had brunch at Armsby Abbey and enjoyed sharing today's NBS. This offering is intriguing and delightful.
    Cheers all

Poured from a 750ml bottle into a HFP large goblet.
L - A bit of haze, gentle carbonation streams upward, fulfilling its purpose with a short life of a cap. Deep yellow, orange color sets a beautiful tone. The rings of lacing leaves evidence.
S - Distinct, sweet malt, lime, orange, white melon and a bit of sour notes, minerals, and a bit of funkiness, and salt water toffee. With a rise in temperature a botanical quality sneaks in, Hibiscus, Lavender.
T - Dragon fruit, ripe musk melon, lime, orange jam, English dry biscuit. The flavors roll through, the pop
of each element seems floated on a pillowed base. Hard to piece together, but entirely delightful.
M - Incredibly soft, from the oats ? Medium in body, the palate is so delicate, there is no hiding flaws with his back drop. Simply amazing feel from this offering. The more time spent with the offering the more impressive it is.
O - The complexity is inspiring. Lime, oats, the use of salt, but nowhere near traditional. This is simply a delightful offering to be sought out.
    Cheers all

Trillium's Wild Sinister Kid w/ black currants

Today we have a wild ale released as part of Trillium's third anniversary this past March. I've been really looking forward to this one and black currants are supposed to be pretty healthy, ergo drinking this beer will be very good for my health. The black currant used to be fairly popular in the U.S. until a federal ban on its growth curbed that. The ban was changed from federal to individual states in 1966, but many states did not remove the ban until the early 2000s and some states, including Trillium's home state of Massachusetts, still have the ban on the books. This beer does not yet have a full review, so I hope I can do it justice.

A: Pours a dark purple with little to no head. Very inviting. 4.0
S: Reminiscent of some darker wines I've had with something else I can't quite put my finger on; if I had to guess I'd say it would be the black currants. 4.0
T: Lot of tartness and some berries and plum. I'm not really picking up the barrel notes early on, but they come through some as it warms 4.25
F: Medium body, light carb. 4.0
O: Once again, Trillium has knocked it out of the park with a wild ale. Not quite as good as Cuvee De Tetreault was, but its not too far behind. Big flavorful beer that is perfect for setting aside only to break out for a special occasion. 4.0

    Composite: 4.1

Loved the beer and I enjoyed reading up on black currants. Suffice to say, going into this review I wasn't familiar with them at all, but I'm going to keep an eye out for food and drinks utilizing them in the future.

L- The beer pours reddish brown which appears more red when light is shown through it. The head is a fluffy 3 fingers of off white foam.
S-The nose if full of molasses and plum.
T- The first thing noted is the molasses and faint vanilla sweetness. The dark fruit sweetness takes over and the beer finishes with a touch of drying hop bitterness and alcohol warmth.
F-Carbonation is light despite the towering head on the initial pour. The overall mouthfeel is medium.
O- This is a fine old ale. One that I would drink over and over. Highly recommended.

The one I got holds -- I'm guessing -- between 100 and 125 caps. As you can see, bigger states have more space in them. New England gets all of four caps. Could mix them up, but I like the idea of putting them roughly where the brewery is located. You can buy state by state maps. Other countries beyond the US, too. It's a fun thing to do with a small portion of your caps. I've got mine tucked in a corner until I fill it, but here's what it looks like...

New Beer Sunday: German style Pils

Evenin' NBSers, with a special greetings to all those pursuers of a practiclly perfect Pils.

Thanks to @utopiajane for the start off this morning. Today was an absolutely picture perfect day here in SEPA. Temps go up to a bit over 70, it was clear bright and sunny all day (much like the Pils in my glass ).

Well, all the Mother's Day activities have finished and it's time to have a beer. This evening's Pils, from Jack's Abby, is called Sunny Ridge, and, as with Troeg's Sunshine Pils, it seems appropriate to follow such a day.

As usual, my review, subject to revision until the beer is finished, can be found here:

    http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/26520/112883/?ba=drtth#review

On the whole I found this to be an excellent example of the German style Pils beer. There's lots of herbal grassy character, a touch of malt sweetness that is replaced by the herbal bitterness as part of a dry finish. Certainly can recommend this beer if you haven't tried it. (It's new tonight as I think Jack's Abby has just started distributing in to SE PA., otherwise I'd have sampled it long ago, but this is the first time I've seen it.) While I like this beer and would be happy to have it again it probably won't replace any of the Pils beers in my current rotation (Sunshine Pils, Stoudt's Pils, Prima Pils, Pikeland Pils and Trauger Pils).

In keeping with the definite arrival of spring, here's a bit of a poem I first heard a long time ago and have gone back to many times over the years, just for fun and to look at all the different variations that have sprung up since its anonymous beginning which nobody seems to be able to document.

From the Bronx, a poem for spring:

De spring is sprung, de grass is ris
I wonder where de boidies is?

Some say de boid is on de wing,
    but dats absoid,
Da wing is on da boid.

Since a Pils beer, done well, is typically a well structured thing of beauty, on the player tonight is music to match, a version of a Mozart Piano Concerto, in particular No. 21.

    Mozart Piano Concerto

    Cheers, all!
