    Eviltwin glaze.imperial doughnut break
    ...Solid black color
... above average body, has a nice thick feel to it. Light/medium carbonation
..Aroma is black coffee ,almonds, light vanilla, and a doughy, yeasty bread doughnut smell
..taste is very similar with the base beer dominating. The vanilla and almond were there but not too strong.
This beer really changes as it warms with the doughnut flavor becoming very obvious towards the finish
.. overall it was a very good beer, would try it again. Definitely should be served a bit warmer to really appreciate all the added flavors. And it does go really well with donuts[IMG]

Good morning NBS and thanks @lordofthewiens for the start up today.Congrats on the quick assimilation to a golf group. Always good to establish connections in a new setting. Along that theme, today's offering from our friends at Honest Weight is a near perfect barrel aged Grisette named Real Friends. The mixed culture and the oak touch, add depth and lushness in the best ways.
    Cheers all

Poured from a 500 ml bottle, no bottle date, but a recently released offering, into the test glass.
A - Goldenrod colored, very nice clarity, the tiniest spheres create columns on the inside surface of the glass. Reminiscent of Champagne. A thin rings of white is supported by the carbonation.
S - A dusty fruit bin here, apricot, peach, along with Bosc pear. Then fine light toasted oak, a hint of Chardonnay and a touch of dusty funk.
T - Follows the complex nose quite well, Add to that mix a delightful grain bill, wheat, primarily I would guess. Candied lemon, some nice white peppery spice is hidden in the flavors as well.
M - Surprisingly soft on the palate, a semi sweet start quickly turns a bit tart, the finish has a nice minerality before a delightful dusty almost ashen conclusion. Wonderful.
O - The base grisette is a delight that has been elevated to a new place, The mixed cultures are in near perfect balance. Not to tart, not to funky. The stone fruit is proud, but the oak treatment acts to thread this all together.
A delightful offering from very talented brewers.

Awww. Thanks for CANsidering me! I am flattered, but I am SO awash in beer here at Chez Woody that it (almost) hurts. I am not trading (much) currently as a result. Sorry.

Good morning New BSers! It's a beautiful day here in New Braunfels,TX, and Crematoria is getting higher in the sky. I finished the wiring project in my brother's pumphouse by 0830 local time and managed to get under cover before the grass caught fire. Today's New Beer on a SUNday:

Priceless at Spec’s, DeZavala, San Antonio, TX. Reviewing the cash register receipts, it appears they neglected to charge for it. Reviewed 9/2/18.
“Date 10.12.16 Batch 1”, on side of label, stored on the shelf in the store. Served 42 degrees in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. Bottle-conditioned 12.7 oz bottle, capped and waxed.
    Appearance – 3.5.
Body – Orange, opaque. As the glass sets, some lumps precipitate.
Head – None. A few bubbles appear as the pour progresses, but they are gone by the end of the pour.
    Lacing – None.
First pour – Begins yellow and clear, ends dark yellow and opaque.
    Aroma – 4 – Apple/apricot/peach with yeast.
Flavor – 4 – The Brettanomyces has had nearly two years to work its magic. This is a fruity/yeasty/funky mix of apricot and peach with no hint of hops. Ends with a bit of acetic acid tartness. No alcohol, no diacetyl, no dimethylsulfide.
Palate – 3.5 – Medium, watery, soft carbonation.
Impression and interpretation – 4 – Quite good. A little fuller-bodied than the usual saison but that works well with the Brett/funk/fruitiness.
    Rating 3.92, rDev +2.1%.

Wish I could have found some more of these - this was the last one at the Spec's to which I twice journeyed. I see Ranger Creek have expanded their weekly open times so maybe I'll get there before we head back to the subarctic tundra of western PA. Ranger Creek has added the following statement to their bottles "The unique color, number, and QR code on each label identifies the batch, the details of which can be referenced on our website or by scanning the QR code."
We'll be hitting Guadalupe brewing this afternoon closely after their opening at 1400, so if any local BAs are around, stop by and say "Hi!" My Terrapin Brewing cap will be laying on the table...
Now I'm going back to read the earlier entries to the thread.

I picked up Origin, a NE-style DIPA at the Finback Brewery yesterday. This cloudy yellow-orange can pour with a 2 cm foam cap has a richly tropical aroma. Prominent flavors are mango, grapefruit and some banana-like esters too. The hop bitterness is moderate and persistent. The mouthfeel is very smooth (wheat?). The relatively high abv is undetectable. This is a very pleasant NE style IPA. [IMG]

I hope the lack of brew today does not impede your fabulous cooking. I'm guessing by your beer selections that you may be in 315 territory. I'm in 516 land or I would be on my way with a delivery!

    Good Sunday, NBS!
It is rainy here and I am just puttering around till work this afternoon. I'm getting ready for a trip down to the States this next weekend and so I'm looking forward to that. I should end up with a few new beers to review/enjoy.
As with every round, I am just now finding out about the BIF. Also, as with every round, I really want to participate but have heard bad stories from other BAs in Canada due to customs clearance (mainly coming this way), so I will probably sit it out and just drool over everyone's pictures. If anyone has advice/information about this definitely send it my way and maybe I'll take the plunge. Otherwise, though, have fun!

My beer for today is a new twist on probably the best QC example of a NEIPA. It's been a while since I had a beer in this style so I'm hoping that'll make it all the better to drink. This is a citra only version of Boreale's IPA du nord-est. I'm happy to say that I added this to the database and got to use the new styles. It is a very nice list from what I saw.
It pours like one would expect, glowing bright cloudy color with a juice-froth head that sticks around pretty well. The aroma and flavor are both NE-esque but with a nice kick of bitterness. The aroma is citrus and sweat (smells like a hop farmer, perhaps?). The flavor is also a little bitter compared to the regular version, with hop resin, citrus and white bread. At the finish there is a faint, fresh, fruity flavor (cheers, @cavedave) that kind of cleanses your palate. It is drinkable, though maybe less so than a non-bitter version for some people.

This is a very good beer. It is nice to have more "classic" hop profiles in juice bombs as far as I am concerned and this is just that. At the same time, though, it gives me an appreciation for those brewers that can get a clean, layered fruit-juice flavor out of Citra rather than bitterness. At the end of the day, however, both are good in my book.

Here is my review if you care to look.

    Cheers!

Welcome Back to New Samuel Adams Beer Sunday, It's Gonna Be a Long Trail (Week 706)!

It was at this point that I originally intended to segue into the second half of my NBS, but my ghostly shipmate pointed out that I have more work ahead of me. No problem, but first, I am off to see "Operation Finale" & do some beer scouting before I return. In the interim, I have also had:

I've traded brews with a buddy in Ontario and, while the shipping cost can be steep, if you don't mind lying on the customs form, we've had no problems going through. My boxes are usually shipped as "lava lamps" which covers any errant gurgles or possible leaks.

Does New York have different delivery laws based on area code? I would think that would be a state thing. I realize that weird county laws exist for alcohol but I associate that more with the bible belt.

Yeah, I've heard as much. From what I understand the problem is mainly Quebec (go figure!) and one in Ontario. I know that last round (or two ago) somebody in western Canada participated and it seemed like it was fine.
