Second new beer I grabbed today while finishing @Roguer BIF box. I do not need any beers right now but I cant resist anything with peaches..
Fat Peach. Peach Sticky Rice IPA? WTF.
Pours a turbid ugly yellow with zero head and zero lacing. Butt ugly.
Aroma is yup lots of peach, pine and tropical notes.
Taste is sweet peach and milk sugar and not artificial in nature, grapefruit, pine, herbal mint, white pepper hotness and no malt.
Body is medium, lightly carbonated. On the flat side but drinks easily for the 7.6%
Overall a little too flat and turbid but does have a decent natural peach flavor. Rice and Lactose. I guess Im not totally into it...

    Threes w/ Burial - Backways

Continuing in the footsteps of @TongoRad , this is a dark mild. Based on style alone, I couldn't resist getting a 4 pack of this to-go while at Threes for saison day.

Many US milds could be mistaken for porters. This one is in the "brown ale" camp instead. It's a murky chestnut brown (not as dark as the pic looks). Fantastic lingering head. This one is 3.1% ABV, and it's a bit watery as a result. This is quite dry. It tastes like roasted hazelnuts and roasted almonds turned into watery liquid. It's too one-note, but I still love it for being totally unique in my market area. If someone handed this to me and told me it was a brown ale with hazelnut flavoring, I'd be harsher on it... but I recognize and am willing to point out my biases and limitations. As presented, it's a delight. Cheers.

You might soon be dealing with another beer from Montana, although of a different style.

So I'm back with a pseudo-side-by-side of the alt variety. I haven't brewed long but I've loved it so far. My beer is far from spectacular but is always fun to make and tweak. This one comes on the tail of a couple that had some off flavors so I worry that this one has them as well. The good thing is that if it does it'll hopefully be the last if it does. At least for a while...
It pours light copper with a little haze and a small beige head. The aroma is toasted malt with the slightest hint of sulfur. The flavor is similar definitely not as "big" as the Beau's beer I had before it, but along the same vague lines. Brown bread, mineral water and a tiny hint of fruitiness from the yeast. It is maybe more drinkable than the Beau's beer but only because it doesn't have as much flavor. I think that ideally the two beers could be blended. The other was a little strong and caramelly for my tastes, while this one is a little hollow-tasting. Anyway, this was not disappointing and I'd have another. In the future I'd make this one a little more bitter and maybe with a little more bite to the malt.

    Cheers!

Back with another new Southern Grist brew before dinner:

Their base Copra Kai is an English Milk Stout with a hefty dose of toasted coconut, so I was worried that the maple and vanilla might push this one over the edge in terms of sweetness. Thankfully, that didn't happen. This one worked very well. https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/44180/409048/

Hello NBS friends. As I watch the Notre Dame women try to come back against a REALLY good Baylor team and recover from the basketball orgy last night, congrats to our friend @cjgiant - as an IU fan of nearly 50 years, it saddens me that I’ve not felt that “tingle” that you get when you know your team can win it all in nearly 20 years. And Virginia can DEFINITELY win it all - that’s a really good team with a really good coach. They play a style that I like to watch.

I have a couple of beers to share tonight. The first is of no particular significance, other than it’s new to me, the second is of utmost significance, because it’s the product of an NBS BIF and that beer nerd extraordinaire, @Ozzylizard.

An aggressive pour reveals an eggshell white head that rapidly dissipates atop a pineapple colored body that swallows all light in its path. The nose is a cornucopia of spicy, juicy tropical aromas, with pineapple up front, followed closely by ripe oranges and spicy passion fruit. Very nice.

The pineapple is really prominent in the taste, and the oranges are also featured, but the star of this beer is the passion fruit - it’s spicy and tangy all at the same time.

The mouthfeel is a bit watery, which is the biggest issue I have with this style - a bit more bite and this would improve substantially, IMHO. Still a very nice example of the style.

Delicious cream ale. Fantastic lasting rocky head retention/thick foamy lacing. Crystal clarity. Flavors of big lemon, lime, orange, citrus peel/zest, cracker, corn, white bread dough, and lightly toasted biscuit; with some herbal, woody, floral, grassy, peppery, piney hops. Similar/muted aromas, a bit fruity/yeasty but not overwhelming. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/zest, herbal, floral, woody, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation, light-medium body, and fairly crisp/clean finishing. Balanced bready/grainy malts and sticky hops in the mouthfeel. Light-moderate increasing bitter dryness, no hop astringency. Very clean lager flavors, mildly fruity/yeasty. Very flavorful/refreshing, 5.5%. Perfectly balanced between clean Pils malt/corn and citrus/earthy hops. Minimal residual sweetness with crisp dryness. Spot on style example, though a bit hoppier than expected. 3.91

This here is Powder Dreams, specifically the Mosaic lupulin powder with Simcoe and Ella hops.

This brew nails the aroma right off the bat, despite clocking in at about 9 1/2 weeks of age. Swirling with citrus tones up front, featuring predominantly grapefruit, orange, and lemon zest, the expected tropical tones of mango and pineapple can be found lurking in the background, consorting with pepper, honey, and a touch of caramel.

Flavor follows, with waves of tropical fruit and berries up front, followed by a moderate dankness (predominantly mid-palate), and finished with hints of citrus peel and zest. Body is smooth and lively - a touch too lively for the NE style, IMO, especially at 7.5%, but that's really quite nit-picky.

This may not be a perfect example of a NE IPA, but it absolutely falls within style guidelines, and it's absolutely lovely. Full review below.

New Beer Sunday: American Strong Ale

Evenin’ NBSers with special alert for those who are fans of Barrel Aged beers that aren’t Stout.

This evening’s new beer is from Boulevard Brewing and is called Plaid Habit. According to the brewers this beer began it’s life as an imperial brown ale before it was dumped into some rye whiskey barrels and left on its own for a year and a half.

Since this is a sipping beer my review will be sort of in progress for much of the evening. The review's most current version can be found here:

    https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/423/334882/?ba=drtth#review

The aromas/flavors are rich and full with caramel, brown sugar, some rye whiskey, some vanilla and a bit of oak. The background has some toasted biscuity malt and a light spiciness as well as just a hint of earthy and charred bitterness. The alcohol is clearly present even before the warming effect begins but it does not burn. As we have come to expect from Boulevard this is an enjoyable and sippable beer. It would work well as a digestif during conversation after a dinner with good friends. I think I’ll go look and see if there are a few more bottles where I found this one.

The music on the player this evening is a bit of Bach.

    Cheers, all!

This is insanely drinkable for something over 9% alcohol. It could function rather well as a dessert beer, but I'll be having a different beer for that after dinner. Thanks, @CanConPhilly!

Happy Sunday BA! It's been a gorgous day here in Virginia, got up to 75 and stayed sunny throughout. I spent most of the day running errands and got a nice run in, now time to relax with a beer.

Now onto the review of Reaver Beaches' Hip-Hoptapus, which the brewery describes as: "A hazy, juicy riff on our flagship Hoptopus DIPA. We took the base recipe and tweaked it, changing the yeast and water profile to juice it up. Hip-Hopto has the exact same hops, just added at later stages to reduce bitterness (plus a significantly increased dry-hopping rate). Mango, clementine, and grapefruit blast out of the glass, carried by a velvety soft mouthfeel and rewarding your taste buds"

S: Just like the description said, juciy orange, clementine, tangerine mango, and grapefruit hit hard up front. Later on I get some cracker from the malts in addition to the fruits. 4.75
T: Very similar to the nose, huge amounts of juicy mango, orange, tangerine, and grapefruit with a nice hoppy bitterness on the finish. 4.5
F: Light bodied and easy to drink for a Double IPA with medium carbonation. 4.5
O: Absolutely fantastic DIPA from Reaver Beach. I hope they keep this in the regular roatation and don't release it just once. 4.5 witha BA generated score of 4.55

#2, I received this a year ago from @Ozzylizard in NBS BIF 007. I believe I still have 3 more beers from him and that BIF.

    I’m a saver.

This is my second Weyerbacher beer. The first, also courtesy of @Ozzylizard in the aforementioned BIF, is maybe my favorite barleywine ever (Blithering Idiot), so I’m REALLY excited to tackle this plum-flavored Dubbel.

Pours a murky rich brown color with a light tan head. The plums are very forward on the nose, but there’s also brown sugar and toffee notes. I am REALLY intrigued to see what this tastes like.

The plums are very tart and really dominate the taste, almost to the point that they detract from what this Dubbel could be ..... and then they retreat, and the brown sugar and toffee flavors step forward. Wow.

The mouthfeel has a depth and substance that you’d expect with a Dubbel, but there’s literally no alcohol presence, which is impressive in a fruit-forward beer that’s packing 7.7% ABV.

This is truly a pleasure to drink, and the fact that some of the proceeds from this excellent beer are supporting a cause that impacts so many of us and the women in our families, that elevates this to “must drink” status, IMHO.

Awesome Berliner. Great fluffy head retention/foamy lacing. Aromas and flavors of big sour/tart/tangy meyer lemons, lime, orange, citrus peel/zest, peach, pear, melon, red/green apple, white grape/wine, hay, straw, and grass; with moderate wheat, cracker, white bread dough malts; light peppercorn, lacto/musty funk, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate fruity/lactic tart/sourness, fruit tang; light pine/herbal/grassy bitterness, and yeast spiciness on the finish. Medium-high carbonation, light-medium body, and fairly crisp finishing. Balanced creamy/grainy wheat, lactic acid, fruit tang/tannin, and light sticky hops in the mouthfeel. Light-moderate increasing acidic/tangy dryness, minimal puckering sourness. Flavorful/refreshing, not overly lactic, 3.9%. Perfectly balanced between lemon juice/peels, Brett/Lacto complexity, and pale/wheat malts against acidity. Hello New Beer Sunday!!!

Well, another work week done, and time to rest up for the next one starting tomorrow.

But, right now, it's a new beer that I'm enjoying. Well, that and Sanford and Son.

    Dogfish Head Fruit-full Fort - 18% ABV.
Probably insane for doing this tonight, but it's been calling me all day.

It's a delicious, tart, berry mixture, that packs quite a punch.

    Review:

    4.17/5 rDev +6.9%
    look: 4.5 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4.25

Pours a nice reddish brown color. There's about a 1 finger reddish/white head. Considering the high ABV, the retention is amazing. The remaining head almost looks creamy. Looking at the beer, sitting in front of me, it looks like there's a carbonation storm going on in the glass - carbonation rises to the top, then it looks like it falls back down.
The nose is an amazing, tart, funky, berry aroma. I can't pull out the individual aromas, but they all work so amazingly well together.
Taste - Berries, slightly sour up front. The tartness lingers throughout the drinking, and picks up as goes down my throat. Again, I can't separate the berries from each other, but I like the choir.
The body is decent. The carbonation dances in my throat. It isn't extremely boozy feeling, but I know it is.
A delicious, and dangerous sour. This is a sipping beer.

Since this is such a strong beer, I'm done after this. See you all next Sunday.
