@Roguer you are a real trooper and a good sport to review this April Fool’s beer. Was it moist or meaty? ;P

Wishing you higher rated beers in the future, cheers!

    Happy NBW Folks.
Well I was prepared to write up something a little less exciting this weekend, but the... I get an "April Fool's" box at my door ON SUNDAY from our very own @WunderLlama
Thank you, you glorious bastard. I still don't know why, and I'm ok with that. :stuck_out_tongue: A rough week gets trounced by a surprise package of beer. WIN!!!
First off, Luft by Second Wind Brewing in Plymouth Masssss.

Thanks to WunderLlama for this one.
A muted, almost clear gold liquid has a constant stream of golden orbs that keep the foamy head alive for the first few minutes. White fluffy head has good retention and leaves very delicate lace strings.
Smell is slightly herbal, bready, and then a noticeable black pepper note.
Flavor is more nuanced. The hop notes are more toward a drying side of bitter/herbal, thus less spicy. The breadiness goes from under cooked rustic bread to a biscuity sourdough. Really nice even if a tad shy of Kölsch style descriptors.
Mouthfeel is a tad fuller than is typical, but really nice. Moderate carbonation and a smooth feel that nods in the direction of fluffy.
Overall, a really lovely beer for grilling. I think it may drift a bit from style guidelines, but as a person who respects faithful execution but is NOT wed to it, a fine beer.

Thanks Maynard!!! Sure got my Sunday grilling off to a great start on a bright, sunny day.

It was indeed moist, but thankfully not meaty.

Oddly, I feel it's lingering and affecting the Enjoy By I've been using to rinse my mouth out.

In all seriousness, I would 100% drink that on trail. Outside of that? No, I'd pass. Thanks for the experiment though - and hey, a ticker's gotta tick! :grinning:

Timeless Beauty, a west coast IPA from Chapman, a brewery I've never heard of in California.

16oz can served in a big snifter. Don't see a date on it, so hopefully it's fresh.

Pours clear dark yellow, small head, medium carbonation. Smell is juicy and pithy, pine and a little grapefruit.

Taste is maybe leaning a little toward pale ale, a little grainy/bready, hops bitterness comes across clearly as pine resin, maybe a little floral sweetness.

Mouthfeel is medium, maybe a little thick. Overall, it's pretty good.

Okay, let’s go for the trifecta. This is my first beer from these guys, and I’m really digging it. In the “WCIPA Side-by-Side-by-Side,” this is second to Bodhizafa, but not by a lot.

This checks all the WCIPA boxes for me - a beautiful burnt orange color with a bit of hop haze and a sudsy off-white head, dank citrus notes on the nose, and a nice dank citrus flavor profile with some pine bitterness and a bit of caramalt for balance and a full, drying mouthfeel.

The first sniff and taste had me saying, “This is like Sculpin.” I try to avoid those kinds of comparisons, but that’s what I thought. Really well done WCIPA, IMHO.

I had my first Kentucky Common back in August or September, I believe. Definitely an interesting style, like a roasty cream ale. There's a brewery that should be opening here in the next few months that is going to specialize in long forgotten/unpopular styles like the Kentucky Common. I can't wait to see what else they make.

Pours a thick black viscous, syrupy motor oil, one finger deep grown bubbly foam cap recedes to a ring after five minutes

    Aroma is sweet coffee

Taste is sugary sweet coffee, I like seeet but the residual sugar could ferment another bottle. They state on the label that the sugar is yo offset the coffee and it’s like a highly sugared coffee drink

Rich , syrupy mouthfeel costs the mouth like it’s painted on , low sudsing, tiny bubbles

    Good coffee imperial stout

    Bottom of can:
    "03/11/21
    Me Too"

    S H E R P A
Single Hop Experimental Research Pale Ale.

Moderate pour yields a nearly one inch slightly off white head over a hazy golden body with some lacing. Nose is quite subdued with slight citrus and very slight tropical fruit with a bit of floral and a tad spice as well. Flavors are citrus, floral with a bit of spice. Tasty with a nice mouthfeel and overall, not as much aroma as and much gentler than the previous SHERPA (Crystal), but still quite nice and would recommend.
Cheers to Dan for this crushable offering!!

Something very different for me tonight. My one and only beer today is a style I do not drink often I think it’s because I in fact have such a sweet tooth. I just end up eating most of my sugar cravings. Well tonight I’m drinking them too. Banana kingdom- kane brewing.

Pours thick and dark, with a surprising creamy nice looking head that dwindles to a thing opaque ring.

The smell is exactly what they were going for all chocolate and banana.

Taste is such a mind fuck it tastes like a chocolate banana milkshake and the peanuts are there but it’s subtle. My brain is saying these flavors shouldn’t be consumed in this form it is very bizarre.

Mouthfeel is creamy rich and smooth, not a huge body but it is damn thick and goes down that way as well. Nice bitter chocolate bite too.

Overall this is a well made beer, it is surprisingly balanced and nothing is overdone. I personally love dessert but I’d rather enjoy it in it’s true form than in beer. I’ll say again this is a really well made beer IMO but what I don’t like about it, is well, it tastes just like it’s label says. It’s hard to really analyze a beer when it tastes just like everything on the label. I’m still glad I visited this style if nothing more than to switch it up. Have a good week everyone!

Damn, that looks and sounds fantastic. I had Triple Shot once thanks to @Roy_Hobbs and it was a silky smooth coffee experience.

I was supposed to Brandi Carlile in 2016 at a festival before I knew anything about her music. Unfortunately, she couldn't make the date because of illness. At the time I wasn't too put off by it since I didn't know her music. Once I became familiar with her stuff it retroactively became a big regret of mine.

I'm not a fan of the 19.2oz can format (I think it's the modern 22), but I saw a brew from a local brewery the other day, and I grabbed it for ticking purposes. It was only later that I looked closer and saw that it was a 9% Saison. Why a 19.2oz can of 9%, red wine barrel-aged Saison was a good idea in somebodies mind escapes me. Stemma Kith:

Edmunds Oast Pales in Comparison (Pink Boots Edition)

“American Pale Ale double dry-hopped with the Pink Boots Society blend of hops from Yakima Chief. Cashmere, Ahtanum, Citra, Loral & Sabro” 5% ABV

This a well-named ongoing series of single hop (or in this case blended) pale ale variants.

A: Medium hazy golden orange with a receding white leaving wispy lacing.
A: Fresh juicy citrus and floral hop aroma
T: Orange, grapefruit, lemon, hint of mango, with solid floral hops presence.
M: Medium, soft carb, light-medium body, lingering, tart citrus fruit with the hops turning more piney on the finish.
O: Feels relatively light overall with some nice juicy flavors. A nice addition to the series, and like the others I’ve had, almost more akin to an IPA.

    Cheers!

Buffalo Bayou Crush City IPA, 7.0% ABV; 3.73 overall

Pours an effervescent gold with 2 fingers of pearl colored head. Above average head retention & lacing

    S: Breadyness & a little citrus

T: Oranges, peach, breadyness, plus dryness up front. A little green melon sneaks in behind the powdery orange as this warms, along with a little lime. Finishes with a little pomelo, dryness & lime

MF: Medium body with moderate carbonation, pretty good balance

Easy enough to drink, but nothing memorable, was a little better on draft

After a lazy afternoon of packing boxes, it was finally time for another beer. This one again comes from @Dimidiata and it's another wallop of hops, this time ramped up even further. A collaboration between Slice and Black Stack, this Triple IPA is loaded with triple Strata, Mosaic, Talus, and Columbus cryo as you can see from the label below.

Hit The Gas TIPA pours a soft yellow haze with the borders of the glass allowing light to penetrate. A delicate off white head slowly retreated to a blanket of foam. The aroma was almost entirely tropical fruit, with some stone fruit and berry creeping in. The 10% abv mixed with some diesel dank notes made for an intimidating show of strength. The taste was almost all tropical fruit with passion fruit and mango doing the heavy lifting. A berry and candy sweetness played beneath the most forward flavors, but was never cloying. The abv was very well hidden and a slightly dank finish balanced all of the fruit. The feel was a soft medium body with lively carbonation. A wonderful showcase of hops by these two very talented breweries.

Thanks again, @Dimidiata! This is number 4 out of 8 and they've all been fantastic. If the abv on this one doesn't catch up to me too quickly I may be able to squeeze in one more tonight.

They're called Necromancer Brewing. They have an instagram page with limited posts so far, but they should be getting close. The Kentucky Common they did was a collab with Dancing Gnome and it was killer. They did another collab with a local, but I didn't get a chance to try that one. It also wasn't as interesting a style to me, a coffee porter, I believe. Here's the IG link:
