I'm especially interested to see what specialty barrels/variants will be on tap next weekend since this will be the only release party I'll be able to make this year. Holding out hope for VSOR, which I've been wanting to try for years now, since Ryeway is being released, but figuring that won't happen because of the canned VSOR release next month.

Please remind me: when are these specialties/variants typically announced?

Really could be any time - sometimes the week before, sometimes the week of the release.
This will be the only release I miss - have a great time!

Just checked what is still on tap at the brewery. Still says Very Special Vanilla Deth Jacket and Rum Barrel VSOJ are available. Imagine @GuyFawkes is waiting for a crowler of one of those.

Beer pricing is a lot more complex than straight ingredients and gets thought of as an entire program, not beer by beer. You are going down the right path @ktr5010.

The $25 4-packs through distro would be unsustainable without the $40 4-packs to help prop them up and balance things out. The blending of the margins of both help make everything an overall success. Volume of beer, time, types of barrels, loss due to ingredients, amount sold direct vs through distro (sharing the margin), and of course the ingredients themself all factor in.

For anyone going for straight value, I totally get that the $25 ones are the best value. They are my favorites often. But if you want to get philosophical in your approach to supporting the program, pretend you’re paying $32.50 for one of each which is still like a $15 bomber. We fight really hard to have a super affordable entry point to barrel-aged beer with Deth and SJ that are easy to find, to keep bringing in new fans. Thanks for supporting the higher price tag ones too to help make the machine all balance out.

Got the okay from @FBarber to post here.

@BeerCruncher is doing another round of fundraising for Lurie's Childeren's Hospital. I posted over in Beer It Forward here with some details and links to donate and check out what's going to be in the raffle. Going to be some awesome prizes (I'm donating a few things) and it's for a great cause. Let's get past their fundraising goal!

Sulla Terra is maple BA, and I am sure that's not the only one, although I'm having trouble being specific right now. And I understand that's not the same as maple added.

Also, Hoppin Frog has Northern Hoser and BA Northern Hoser, which did add maple.

Figured I would reply to myself because myself is enjoying a '21 SJ right now. I will have to do a side by side (with a friend, calm down!) but the '21 looks quite a bit darker than '20. Seems richer maybe, almost like a bit of chocolate on the nose, but that could just be my reaction to the color. It's hard for me to say that '21 is better than '20 because they're different. It's certainly as wonderful as '20, I think I like '21 a bit more. As always, I will be bummed when this glass of SJ is empty.

For whatever reason drinking two cans of Rev Deep Woods is way easier for me than drinking a bomber of something else. I had a '21 last night and kept laughing to myself (silently) about how good it is.

They have a “new” variant of barleywine/stout cuvée on draft at the Taproom. Very Special Vandy Jacket - 1 year aged stout with barleywine.
Very smooth, very sweet, I recommend.

It’s not listed on their website.

Just finished my first can of Blackberry Finn and must say, it was better than I remember enjoying at the taproom release, and I definitely thought highly of it that day. Of the fruited stouts, barleywines and rye wines I've had from Revolution, I think this is only exceeded by Ten Year Beer. And not by much.

It's the same thing as this:
    https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/22072/577916/

Not sure why they called it one thing on the website and another on the draft board, but it was listed as Vandy on the draft board the day of the last Deep Woods release as well.

Looks like they did pull it off the taproom website now, regardless of name.

SOURCE: a long, confusing conversation from the bartender the day of the last Deep Woods release.

Ten Year Beer is on tap at Sleeping Village in Chicago, by the way.

Damn good draft list at that spot!!
