After a brief hiatus I recently started drinking beer again. After trying canned Rum King and Prairie Paradise I also rediscovered my love for Stouts. So much has changed in a little over a year and the selection and offerings from local and near/afar is mind boggling. Where do I start?

    Boulevard Imperial Stout X: Coconut

I don't think this is a year-round stout but more often then not I still see some on shelves, especially if you hit up the ones that often aren't the immediate go-to's.

Dangerous Man has a coconut milk stout on quite frequently (available now according to there website) that I find quite delicious. It's not an imperial stout by any means, but still has a nice body to it.

This a good one. Seems to be available quite often too.

Omni has one called Muddy Runner, though it's porter I found it quite good.

Still see some coconut Victory at Sea around. Not labeled a Stout but drinks like (a very rich & smooth) one...

In the American craft brewing landscape, there is little to no objective difference between what brewers choose to label a porter and what they choose to label a stout. JMO.

    |---------------stout-----------------------|
    |---------------porter----------------------|

(and that might be exaggerating the difference!) (again, JMO).

Yeah, I get it. Just getting out in front of the fairly likely VaS is a porter comment.....

Found a bottle of the regular Bourbon Barrel Dragon's Milk at Liquor Barrel in St Paul. It was pretty good, though I prefer something a bit sweeter and creamier.

You're not going to find any year round- most are seasonal, with some being around longer than others, like Victory at Sea with Coconut (which smells like sun tan lotion in my opinion from extract used). Dangerous Man's is very good, and 515 does their Castaway, which is excellent and I hear Barb is getting ready to brew again, so that should be out soon. Kona does a Nut brown with coconut in it that isn't bad if you can find it, and Exile's Jesus on a Coconut was actually pretty good, but pretty sure that's not available anymore?? Coconut beers are indeed hard to find, which is a pity, I like them too.

Yeah I had that a few years ago and it is solid but the Cocunut/rum variant is the one I think is super sweet flavored..

Here's my advice if you love coconut stouts. First you need to buy a French Press (usually used for brewing coffee) and a bag of unsweetened coconut flakes. Use a 1/4 cup of coconut for every 12oz of beer. Toast coconut in a pan on the stove top at medium high heat until it's golden brown. Let cool, and put in French Press. Pour your beer into French press slowly, and let steep for 45 minutes or so (don't worry, it won't go completely flat). Any stout works well, but some of my and wife's favorites have been Black Tuesday, BCBS, KBS, Black Note (pretty much great with any barrel aged stout, but would be great with non BA Stout as well). We tried this for the first time back in 2013 to mimic Prop and it was awesome. We have also used frozen and fresh fruit to press into Saison/Wilds with great results as well. Cheers!
