It looks like most of the votes are for some darker grains in the mash.

It's pretty interesting from a political science perspective. Part of the problem is that voters can't coordinate very effectively. For instance, what if the barleywine voters switched to RIS en masse? They would pick up the 3 votes that are already there, plus they would get my vote. That would put them within 2 of brown ale, and they might pick up some porter voters as well. They might even pick up some brown ale voters if some of those voters rank their preferences "RIS > brown ale > barleywine" but are voting brown ale for strategic reasons (figuring RIS to be a lost cause).

But they probably can't pull it off and any single voter wouldn't find it to be an attractive switch. I'm kind of hoping for some dramatic swings but I wouldn't bet on it. (Also note that there may be people with the preference "barleywine > brown ale > RIS," and those people wouldn't be up for a coordinated switch to RIS in any case.)

Edited to add: For anyone interested, Arrow's Impossibility Theorem states that voting can never live up to all of the qualities you might want out of a collective decision-making system. It's a mathematical result, meaning the shortcomings are not just in the ballot system or whatever, they are inherent in any democratic system.

    It’s also Spring.
Or will be when most of these ales would be done.

I don't put a lot of stock in that for three reasons.

    1. The recipe is going to be on this forum forever, and years from now no one will care what season it was when the polls were taken.

    2. I wouldn't count on drinking this beer in the spring of 2019. As others have pointed out, the polling process takes a long time, and then for a lot of these styles the beer wouldn't be ready for a while after brewing.

    3. In particular, anyone voting for barleywine or RIS is surely counting on cracking open some beers in the upcoming winter.

Bonus 4th reason, not everyone on this forum lives in the northern hemisphere.

I’m not familiar with the process being the new guy but I guess you’re right there. Though I think a brown ale could be conceived, brewed and kegged well before Summer.
Unless of course you’re in the Southern Hemisphere.

So where are the recipes for projects 1-6 located?

Here are three of them, thanks to riptorn (and, as always, thanks to VikeMan):

    American Stout
    American IPA
    Dubbel

These threads contain everything from start to finish, including the recipes.

You can see that for the stout, the first poll (once the style was decided) was on November 19 and the last poll was on January 30 of the following year. For IPA it went from January 4 to March 8. And for the dubbel, March 21 to June 5.

So as I said... don't get your hopes up for drinking the beer this spring.

Just skimmed through the IPA project.
Holy moly I had no idea the process was so intensive.

Depending on the winning style and how many polls are involved, you might be able to sip the finished beer before summer solstice north of the equator....maybe even with a few days to spare.

Edited to add: (....odds are enhanced if it’s a proper pour of a delicious Averagely Perfect Belgian Pale Ale)

Maibock was doomed from the start.

So to my reading, the BJCP guidelines basically have three things called Brown Ale:
    Northern English Brown (eg Newcastle)
    Southern English Brown (eg Manns)
    American Brown
but then say that their American Brown attempts to capture the smoother and more commercial end of the style rather than the bigger and hoppier versions historically produced by craft brewers and homebrewers.

Make of that what you will...

Seeing no hope for it, I caved in on R.I.S. and re-cast my vote for Brown ale.

Brown Ale it is. A follow-on pre-poll to determine which type of brown ale will be coming forthwith.

Warning this post is a joke:

I think we should go with ranked choice on this now since Brown didn't get more then 50% of the votes...

I don't have any information on the Bigfoot process, but I doubt it is aged for very long before bottling. Do you have any info?

I mentioned this issue a couple times (without mentioning Arrow) on previous Averagely Perfect beers, it is interesting to see this type of voting problem come up repeatedly in this kind of decision making.
