Hey NC BA's! I am heading down with my family to Duck for a week at the outer banks. I know very little about NC beer, was hoping to try some local stuff while I'm down there. Looking for suggestions of things that would be easy pick ups at most grocery stores/liquor stores/wherever you buy beer in NC, not trying to hunt any whales. And although most time will be spent at the beach house in Duck, any recommendations for nearby brew pubs/breweries would be great! Thanks everybody, cheers, and enjoy the weekend!
Also, not just local beers, but any beers that don't see distribution up around NY/NE that are available around the OBX
Damn if this was the NE thread people would be all over it(albeit some act like assholes "why don't you search yourself, there are a million threads in this!?") any guidance would be appreciated!
Sweet T's in Duck is your closest option for craft/local beer. Chips in Kitty Hawk (maybe a 25-30 minute drive? don't remember) has fresher options and maybe a better selection. Outer Banks Brewing Station is close to it and probably worth checking out. Check out Facebook pages and see what beer they get in (Westbrook is at Chips, not sure what MA gets though..) I always forget what local beer they have in the OBX, but definitely try Foothills, Mother Earth, Natty Greene's. I don't believe Wicked Weed and NoDa make it out that far, though. Just ask the employees at either Sweet T's or Chips what they would recommend and I'm sure they'd point you in the right direction. I love Duck and it's such a beautiful area. Please check out Duck Donuts every day you are there. If you like coffee, Treehouse Coffee is amazing. Check out Gray's for souvenirs, and Sooey's for some NC BBQ. Also, check out Timbuck II in Corolla for shopping and beach restaurants. Hope this helps and puts you in the right direction. I am envious of you and I hope you enjoy yourself.
Hey, thanks a lot for the help. We used to go to the area a lot when I was younger and the BBQ joint sounds familiar and duck donuts also, it's great down there and I'm very excited to enjoy a week off from grad school. Looking forward to relaxing and drinking some good brews' Cheers!
Apparently a shipment of Westbrook including Mexican Cake hit the OBX today, I'd go looking for that at Chips and Trio.
Trio at Milepost 4 has a very good beer selection with over 20 beers on tap. Also, a very good bottle selection with many NC beers. If you are adventurous, drive to Manteo and check out Full Moon Brewery(Lost Colony Brewery is the new name) for good beer. A few blocks away from there is our new distillery, OBX Distillery which produces Kill Devil Rum.... Have fun!! Paul
haha, here you go, do a search this comes up weekly http://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/heading-to-outer-banks-from-vt.205163/#post-2712724 http://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/pittsburgh-ba-visiting-nags-head.294806/#post-3674734 But basically they covered it, hit up Trio, brewing station, chips, etc. but check bottle dates on IPAs sometimes they can sit around. I like the posters above suggestion too, check out full moon and Outer banks distilling in Manteo they are a short walk from each other.
Girlfriend is in OBX right now, and she went to Trio today w a friend and picked me up 2 Mexican Cakes. Limit 1 per person. Thanks for the heads up @beernuts!
This is a huge resource for seeing not only which breweries go to which states comparing one to the other, i.e. MA to NC: http://seekabrew.com/distro/index.html
Weeping Radish in Grandy is probably on your way out there. Focuses more on German-style beers and grub.
