Been thinking about trading and came across something. If someone sent me a beer but had filled it with something ells would I be able to tell? Like say someone got some big name beer and drank it. But they then filled it up with another beer and tried to trade it away as the original one. If you got it, would you be able to even tell if you had not had that beer before? Thank god for wax and corks I guess! Btw, I tend to be paranoid about things, if you can't tell lol

Crazy. I've read articles about similar situations with wine, often coming out of China. Both cases in which real bottles were refilled with sub-par product, as well as fake bottles/labels all together. With some of the prices certain bottles are fetching, counterfeit beer could become an issue as time goes on. As you mentioned though, could you even tell? Hard to say, among beers I've had there has been some serious bottle variation but I have no reason to doubt any of their authenticity
People can complain about waxed bottles all they want, but one advantage is it'd be pretty difficult to.match the wax on any particular, say bruery, bottle
I don't think that's necessarily true. http://www.shopblendedwaxes.com/Bottle-Sealing-wax-regular.html

Only deal with well established traders for Whales, but in the end it's still a trust deal, and there are assholes everywhere doing all kinds of things not just beer fraud.
When you are there and the store/brewery is filling said growler you are wondering if they tapped a different keg ?
No, when you trade growlers. I've gotten in quite a few growlers, some that don't live up to hype and I wonder if it's the real thing. Would be stupid easy to fill with something else.
I think the same thing, although I've always had good communication and vibes with those trading partners who send out growlers. Only let down once maybe (with CBC Bodhi), as the first time I had it, well it blew me away.. the 2nd growler, not so much.. I think the delay in shipping and perhaps how fresh it truly was had something to do with my disappointment. Still, one never knows these days.
