So it's my first trip to Indi anywhere I must hit (bars or shops or breweries ) have the whole family with me so time is short. Gotta score a couple things I can't get in Michigan thanks
I'm sure there are threads with lists of places. If you go one place though go to Sun King. Last week they still had cans of their bba doppelbock and I think their seasonal IPA is available now.
It depends on where you're staying, but I'd say Crown and Payless liquors usually have the widest selections
Go to Twenty Tap in Broad Ripple for food/beer. Tomlinson Taproom in the City Market downtown has ~15 drafts, all Indiana beers. For either place, you can their taplist posted daily on twitter. For a bottle shop, go to Crown Liquors downtown, corner of Delaware and Ohio. For breweries, visit Black Acre (Irvington, east side of town), Bier (just east of Broad Ripple), and Brugge (Broad Ripple). Jockamo's pizza is a couple doors down from Black Acre, it is $, and was also recently rated the top pizza joint in Indiana. That's debatable but it's damn good. Due to your family being along for the ride, Black Acre and Bier are likely places they can't go (assuming you have young kids). I believe family is welcome at Twenty Tap and Brugge. Could always leave the family for a few at Jockamo's and stroll over to Black Acre for a bit too. I'd personally skip Sun King, but to each his own. You'll find very mixed opinions on them from Indy beer geeks. A couple recent threads: http://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/indiana-trip.292081/#post-3650425 http://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/indianapolis-suggestions.272835/
The best brewery in the city right now is Black Acre in Irvington. Otherwise Twenty Tap, Ralstons, La Margarita, and Hop Cat are your best bets for draft.
100% agreed. I don't live near them and go way out of my way to get growlers of that Libery St. Lager.
What this guy said. Also, keep an eye out for offerings from Scarlet Lane Brewing, as they are draft-only still - I've been consistently impressed with their offerings, the Dorian Stout in particular.
Agree on Black Acre. I would also check out Mashcraft if you're anywhere near the south side. They've only been around a little more than a year, but I think they do great stuff.
Sounds like I am a little late to this thread, but if youre back in Indianapolis area one day would throw in the little-known Planetary Brewery in Greenwood as well. Its kinda off the beaten bath in a business/industrial complex but its worth it. They have a bunch of cool space-themed stuff inside, are always playing cool movies on the TV, and have unique fresh beer (first time I had a mint chocolate stout the day it was kegged) worth the trip.
I just took my first trip to Indianapolis today after having moved to West Lafayette. Hit up Vine and Table and the downtown Crown Liquors for bottle shops, and my wife and I had a great time at Books & Brews and then Black Acre.
Anyone have any updates to this thread? My wife and I are driving from Cincy to Indy tomorrow morning for the weekend. We're staying one mile outside of the city center and are looking for suggestions on both beer and general Indianapolis city things to do on foot. Any new suggestions since this thread was last touched last year would be appreciated, thanks.
