    Peanut Brother

Peanut Brother is our Imperial Milk Stout that tastes like a peanut butter cup without the pesky brown wrappers. We boil this stout for hours to keep the body thick.

Great first beer. PB very strong on the nose. Tastes of PB and bitter chocolate. I love PB stouts and this is a good one. Very well balanced. Great start to the box.

After hearing so much about the Peanut Brother I cracked that one open for the game. No regrets, really, really good. "Only 9%" so might try one more for the second half if anyone has recommendations.

I don't want to like peanut butter beer dammit but god help me, I do. And this is a good one.

So this does taste great, like a liquid peanut butter cup as advertised, but peanut butter isn't listed on the can and natural and artificial flavor are. What I'm smelling and tasting sure come across like peanut butter though. No denying that this is a delicious novelty at least.

Take home points: great beer- not as sweet as PB fusion but also doesn't taste quite as high-end. The overall balance of this beer gives it an edge over PB fusion for us though. Both are great beers!

    Overall score 4.39- Full Review

Pours a dark brown nearly black with a foamy tan head that sticks down the glass.

Nose is extremely strong of rich chunky peanut butter. Some mild roasted malt in the background but peanut butter is definitely the showcase.

Flavor is similar to the nose. Upfront is a hint of chocolate with a roasted malt backbone. The peanut butter comes in the middle and hits hard until the end. Left to linger is a hint of roasted malt and a ton of peanut butter.

Mouthfeel is good. Rich and thick, medium carbonation. Good but could be smoother.

Overall this is a great stout. Definitely highlights peanut butter. Has a nice roasted malt backbone so there is a nice balance- it doesn't get too sweet.

My second beer from the Big Stouts Box. Glad to try another Great Notion beer as they arent normally available here in Connecticut. thanks @Todd for setting up this great box o' beers!

    onto my review:
Im sampling this 16 oz can at cellar temp and poured into my snifter. Date stamp is on the lip of the can and says 11/28/2022.
The beer pours a black coffee color with a dense creamy beige head of 1 cm. This foam fades slowly to the thinnest of edge layers and a scattering of small islands on the surface.
Not really any lacing when I swirl or take a sip, more viscous legs like a fine merlot.
Aroma is some roasted malt and milk chocolate with hints of husky peanut shell and a bit of sweeter peanut butter notes. No hint of hops nor any boozy notes on the nose.
First sip reveals a silky smooth texture and big body, but its not a chewy beer in my opinion. Carbonation is medium and fairly soft and rolls across my palate.
Flavor is sweet chocolate, roasted notes and some peanut butter that is kind of sweet on the finish. I actually get a bit of dark fruit here too, plums or dark cherry. Very briefly on the finish, but definitely on every sip. Didnt see that coming!
No ABV hints, no hops and the beer is a sipper only due to the sweetness.
Pretty solid peanut butter stout. Glad to have had the chance to try this one.

Ventured into the extreme box of big stouts, peanut brother stout was excellent.
Paired it with homemade peanut butter cookies and it worked really well. This made for an excellent dessert beer with it coming off as peanut butter and chocolate without tasting artificial.
Sorry I have to work tomorrow or else I would try another big stout.
    Again,many thanks @Todd [IMG]

This was the first beer out of my extreme box. I’m still looking for the peanut butter stout that knocks my socks off. That could be because peanut butter cups are my favorite chocolate bar. That said, this is one of the better ones I’ve tried. You definitely get the peanut butter aroma. It does taste better if you let it warm up to room temperature.

idk why, and i couldn’t tell you the rest of my planned order, but this was always going to be my first stout of this box.

really good peanut butter and chocolate flavors on it. i got a little less peanut butter and more roasted peanuts on the nose, but either way this was a real treat. quite easy to drink too for 9% and such a rich flavor profile. cheers!!

2nd of EBB: Big Stouts. 3rd year of amazing Great Notion Stouts. Ruby-brown w/ a thick brown head. Amazing peanut butter aroma. Creamy mouthfeel. Dark chocolate & fresh ground peanut butter. It’s bitter in the finish, so you know it’s an Imperial Stout. I’m really impressed with Great Notion’s Stouts so far.

Motor oil black pour. Head takes a minute but then is bold. Aroma is almost all peanut butter. Smooth, creamy mouthfeel. Taste is heavy on the peanut butter with some chocolate and a little bitterness on the finish. As it warms up, the chocolate is more prevalent. Overall, a very good brew.

    Wonderful stout from the box!

Poured at fridge temp. Pours thick and creamy. Pitch black with a good amount of light brown head.

The nose is fantastic. Tons of chocolate/fudge, dark fruits, big malts, vanilla, peanut butter, maple.

The taste is so smooth and creamy. Peanut butter is definitely front and center, but tons of chocolate as well. Some roasted malts (subtle) and some black licorice (especially on the aftertaste). Vanilla ice cream, oak, figs, and some Oreo cookies. Very tasty. Not too sweet at all.

Mouthfeel is crazy thick and creamy. Great stuff!

My 3rd from the Peanut Butter/Dessert/PastryBeer Box. A very nice looking beer, dark brown, thick, no light passes thru it, frothy brown head is gone in a flash. Nose says peanuts and chocolate, I get some milk sugar along with the peanuts and chocolate. Thick'n smooth, not much carbonation. Finishes way too sweet. IMHO, the dessert/pastry stouts should come in 8oz glasses. I'll put the unfinished can in fridge, maybe I can choke the rest down later.

A great dessert style beer. I drank it second simply because sweet isn't always my thing. The peanut butter is definitely at the front but the warmer it drank, the sweeter and more chocolatey it got, but not in a bad way. I'm definitely not putting away two or more of these in a night just because of the sweetness. I tend to prefer a bitter, stronger stout but this was a really fun drink. I dug it out and I really appreciated the info video above from Great Notion, a really nice addition.

Halfway through the box! Wow, this is really a drinkable peanut butter cup. It’s not as complex as some of the other stouts, but damn is it tasty. The aroma is straight up PB and chocolate, the taste follows suit, there’s a little bitterness. I wouldn’t want to drink this all the time, but this kind of dessert beer is right up my alley. It’s not over the top and it’s just a pleasure to drink.

I've seen a lot of positive notes in these Extreme Stout threads on each beer. I have to admit, though, that combining my skepticism of pastry stouts and after having a fair amount of Great Notion beers on visits to Portland, I wasn't expecting much. Add the fact that the GF and I shared a pastry stout from the brewer that was distributed here recently and it fell short of worth the price, and I was a bit skeptical.

However, I am pleasantly surprised. The peanut butter wafted towards my nose on the pour with a metallic note, and while that unexpected tinge didn't disappear with closer inspection, I think its the cacao and hops that are disrupting the pure PB aromas.

The taste is not as sweet as I'd feared, and has an impression of a blend of coffee and chocolate liqueur laced with fresh ground peanut butter. On the down side, the metallic note does come through in the taste in varying degrees. Much more dark chocolate than I'd expect from a peanut butter cup, but that works better in the beer form.

This one seems on a teeter-totter for me, a handful of good things, with some off-kilter aspects that stand out more than I'd like. Overall, a positive experience, however.

I don't like peanut butter. I don't buy peanut butter. I don't eat peanut butter. But I really liked this beer. Peanut Brother is what Gravastar said they would he. Peanut forward, perfectly balanced, creamy full mouthfeel. Really enjoyed it and surprised myself. Guess that's what these boxes are for.

Really enjoyed this one. Huge peanut smell and great peanut butter forward flavor. Biggest gripe with Peanut Butter stouts is they are too artificial tasting or too sweet...this one was great overall IMO. Not overly boozy. Well executed! I'd have it again and again.

Getting peanut butter flavor into a stout is tricky. Many of the powdered PBs ones have a weird chemically aftertaste, just trying to use peanuts leaves PB barely noticeable. Whatever GN used here turned out really well. I was little worried on the pour that it would be thin tasting, but the lactose filled out the body and flavor nicely.
One of the better PB I've had.

Wow. Smooth and creamy, obviously peanut butter, but drying feel and no more sweet than most milk stouts. Strong roast presence and a clean finish.

Oh brother! Super solid notes of peanut and chocolate. Well balanced, lots to chew on here. Pretty smooth with a nice roasty finish. Delicious! Two-thirds of the way through. In the home stretch!

The peanut butter is upfront and center but is more balanced in the taste. I do like the balance between the peanut butter and chocolate in the taste with chocolate slightly dominating. As I favor chocolate a lot more than PB, the overall impression is pretty good. I especially like the mouthfeel, smooth and creamy.

after a long hard day of work i'm gonna need something to take the edge off. that's why there's peanut butter stout. first beer i've ever had by great notion, 16 oz can into a yeti coffee mug, which i figure should be appropriate. bubbled up a nice light brown head of frothy, dissipated quickly. smells like a straight up peanut butter beer. no mistaking it. just like it says on the label. tastes like one too. absolutely delicious. like a peanut butter cup. chocolate, peanut butter, coffee, and the like, commingling for delicious goodness. mouthfeel is rather thick and bubbly, so it's a heavy beer but i don't mind. overall one of the better peanut butter beers i've had.

There is always a "that guy" and I am going to be "that guy" about this beer. After reading a thread full of positive comments, I am going to pan this beer. I was pleasantly surprised by PB Fusion so I approached this one in a positive frame of mind. It looks good; it smells good; the opening seconds on the taste buds are good but, then, after the swallow, an unpleasant metallic, almost medicinal flavor overwhelms. Wine drinkers swirl and spit - perhaps if I did that I would like this much better than I did.

L: Black with thick coffee head
S: Sweet peanut butter and chocolate
T: Creamy sweet chocolate and peanut butter. Warm alcohol. Very rich and satisfying.
F: Thick and creamy. Full body.
O: Like chocolate mousse. Sweet creamy and rich but had enough bitterness at the end to cut the sweetness. Back in my young stupid days, I'd probably drink a bunch of cans of this all at once.
