Taster at Great Notion.Black pour, kind of flat. Peanuty arroma, light chocolate. Taste is more peanut butter, a little bit of the roast. Chocolate, sweet finish

Very dark, near black, with minimal foam in the Bellegems glass. I was very dubious of the peanuts, but it's actually not revolting at all. Smooth, sweet, and candy-like, with a bitter chocolate edge. Burnt sugar, sweet cocoa, and of course peanuts. The aroma is alluring, but it's pretty intense with that dose of peanuts. This is one to be sipped carefully, and I'm putting the rest of the bottle away until I get over the taste. Time for an IPA. From the 16 oz can.

neat beer, but im not calling it amazing. perhaps our can had been on a warm shelf too long, i dont know, but it had a little acidity to it, like its partially breaking down, and it clashes with the thicker body and richer flavors this has, so to me it felt a little disjointed, and i was glad to be sharing the pint can, that would be a huge dose of this. near still, majorly viscous, and black as night, with long legs and a somewhat intimidating presence in the glass. the aroma on this is peanut forward, dusty like the powdered peanut butter, some dark chocolate and coffee notes come up from the heavy roasted grain base this is built on, some caramel and long boiled sweetness, faint licorice and tobacco, and a little greasy oily thing from the peanut aspect which gives it some authenticity. the flavor is everything i smell, some brown sugar in there, light smoke and char, even a burnt wood note, but then also some astringency that rises toward the finish, cutting the peanut richness and interrupting the flow of the whole thing. dry cocoa, stuck to my tongue, the body is massive, almost glue-like, and even though there is enough bitterness to balance the sweet and the alcohol is not as big as expected, this still drinks colossal. close to still too, which slows it down even more. without the finishing acidity i would like this better, and cant be too harsh on that. i would be keen to try this again when freshness can be guaranteed, and i would love to try the barrel aged version. for now though, i had slightly higher hopes for this one. better than many on its use of peanut though, that element is a win for sure.

This is an amazing beer. Pours dark like coffee with a small brown head. Wonderful aroma of chocolate and peanuts. Taste of dark chocolate smooth and silky with a hint of peanut butter. I’m amazed at how good this beer is

L: Pours a rich hickory brew that forms a moderate caramel head, which is quick to fade. Minimal lacing around the edge of the snifter, but a good layer of retention on the top. Held to the light, this beer has a thick, nutty umber hue.
S: Very strong aromas of peanut butter. Almost overpowering. Roasted malts, hazelnut, and cacao nibs are also evident, as is a slight hint of lactose.
T: Taste follows the nose- plenty of peanut butter, hazelnut to start. Transitions to a dark chocolate, toasted malt, and caramel flavor. Lingering roasted bitterness.
F: Medium- to full-bodied. Silky smooth, a bit chewy. Warming towards the finish.
O: Pleasantly surprised. The peanut butter does not overwhelm, but is the dominant aroma/flavor. Nonetheless, there is enough variety here to stay interesting. Tasty, nice mouthfeel, pungent aromas. Well done.

One from the extreme stouts box.
Poured stout black with an active brown head that reached a whole centimeter in height. Nice.
The aroma is peanut butter, which to my Covid affected nose is pretty impressive.
The taste followed, oh sure, there was some stout in there but mostly it was peanut butter. I think the flavor just comes in stronger for me.
The feel is thicker than I expected, almost like they stirred peanut butter into the mash or something. Not off putting, just thicc.
OA, I generally avoid beer with peanut butter as they almost always seem overly heavy with the peanut butter. This one was too. But it was tasty enough.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing opaque in the glass with a two finger, somewhat fizzy khaki head that dissipates to a thick persistent cap with nice lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, peanut butter, dark and milk chocolate, light toffee and lactose. Flavor follows, with dark toasted malt, peanut butter, dark chocolate, caramel, and lactose; peanut butter cup finish. Not as sweet in flavor as expected from the aroma. Great creamy and silky body, fine mouth feel. A rich, full bodied milk stout that has the expected lactose sweetness, but at a very pleasant level. Authentic peanut flavor well balance by the robust stout base. Great mouth feel and better than expected sweetness level for a peanut butter stout. Very well made all round. I've been holding off on Great Notion stouts because they seemed like they would be too sweet from their descriptions, but this encourages me to check the out.

A: Pours an opaque yet still clear thick viscous jet black in color with moderate amounts of active visible carbonation rising along the edges of the glass and very faint dark chestnut brown + dark amber. + dark cola brown colored highlights. The beer has a three finger tall dense fizzy foamy dark tan head that quickly reduces to a large patch of slightly mottled very thin film covering the entire surface of the beer and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Light amounts of lacing are observed.
S: Moderate to strong aromas of peanut butter + chocolate covered peanuts over the top of slightly stronger than moderate aromas of dark + roasted + toasted + caramel + chocolate malts with moderate amounts of lactose sweetness. Hints of vanilla + cocoa aromas.
T: Upfront there are slightly heavier than moderate flavors of dark + roasted + toasted + caramel + chocolate malts with moderate amounts of lactose sweetness. That is followed by light to moderate flavors of vanilla + cocoa. Finally there are moderate to strong flavors of peanut butter + chocolate covered peanuts. There is a light amount of lingering roasty bitterness.
M: Medium to full bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Moderately creamy + smooth.
O: Easy to drink with well hidden alcohol and an enjoyable creamy + smooth mouthfeel. Lots of peanut butter + chocolate flavors + aromas without a heavy amount of sweetness (not cloying in the least).

16oz can. No dating information found. Selection from the Extreme Stouts box.
Black colored body, with just the thinnest mahogany back lit edge. Two fingers of tan head; this retreats to an island and a ring. Only a small spot or two remain as lacing.
Aroma is heavy with chocolate covered peanuts, with roasted malt base. Vanilla add in.
Taste is a very rich dessert beer. Sweet cocoa chocolate coats peanuts, and then adds in vanilla. Roasted malts provide a base. Sweetness fades away in the aftertaste but the peanut and cocoa components survive.
Thicker mouth feel, with a syrup texture. Higher ABV% is well hidden beneath the sweetness. Supportive carbonation.
Very sweet and thick dessert stout with balanced flavors of peanut and cocoa.

I don't even remember what number of the Stout box this is. We're gonna finish regardless. This pours cola black with a lovely, bubbly chocolatey head that fades out quickly. The nose reminds me of some other fine PB stouts I have had in years gone. It has THAT scent - peanut butter heaped on top of toasty, chocolately, malty goodness. The taste follows as well. It's a very smooth sort of peanut butter, not as sweet as one might expect, but very full and creamy. Indulgent, decadent, and so on. Like a peanut butter cup with a bit of salt. Stupid good.
