We are heading down to Hilton Head on Friday to visit the inlaws. I know it is kind of a wasteland, in the past I’ve had the best best luck at Whole Foods and the big Kroger’s, ( I miss that growler shop next to the piggly) Any other Recs for bottle shops or brewery’s within an hours drive? Is the Hilton head brewery worth it? I’m Sure we will be making a day trip to savanah too
This is at least a good place to start (with the caveat that things are always changing): https://www.beeradvocate.com/commun...island-beer-stores.298799/page-2#post-5604841
I’d like to bump this thread up before I go to HH in ~a week. Driving from Charleston, and in the market for a good stop along the way plus advice on local breweries to look for. Some nice session-worthy stuff for the beach would be great! Advice welcome, y’all (playing to the gallery, there).
I’d hit up one of the many Charleston threads for best bottle shops and go to one of those before heading to HH, mon ami (playing right back to this very specific audience). Westbrook’s gose lineup is tres bien for beach-drinking.
I would recommend stopping in Bluffton before you cross the bridge onto Hilton Head. Fat Patties has a lot of local beers on tap, including Salt Marsh Brewing, which is their on-site brewery.
Speaking of on tap, are you talking for growler purposes, or just getting up my courage to fight traffic onto the island?
I checked out their website and it looks like they have both growlers and crowlers. The tap list was pretty good when I was there, so you might want to pick up some for the road. There also is another Fat Patties location in Beaufort that you can stop at on your drive from Charleston.
Two tides brewing in Savannah. I've never been to the brewery but the ipa cans friends have brought back were very well done.
I'm making a trip down to Hilton Head shortly and looking for the same info. My sister just moved to Bluffton. We were in Charleston this past November; they have a number of excellent breweries. Worth a stop or stay-over if you travel I-95. We stayed several days in the Holy City, and the brew selection was excellent. https://www.postandcourier.com/mych...cle_6e83ed2a-52a6-11e7-9e04-77ed7cb1ec7b.html
I discovered that a new place called the Bluffton Trading Post opened up in Bluffton a couple of weeks ago. They have a large selection of 4-packs and 6-packs of local craft beers from the Carolinas and Georgia. It takes less than five minutes to get to downtown Bluffton from US-278 so it is a worthy detour for anyone looking to stock up on local craft beers on their way driving to Hilton Head Island. This place is also in close proximity to Fat Patties, which is another good beer venue in Bluffton.
