This one is just for fun. The premise is simple. Name any beer ever brewed that is no longer available that you’d like to have again. It could be a beer that was brewed for a century and then discontinued because the brewery went under. It could be a one-off that you tasted once, blew you away, and was never made again. It could be a homebrew you made that absolutely nailed it but you’ve never been able to quite replicate the recipe.

For me, off the top of my head, I’m going to go with Pete’s Wicked Ale. Not necessarily because it was a great beer, I actually don’t even remember. I just know that at the time I first had it, along with Sam Adams, during a brief stint in college (off-campus semester on the East Coast), I had never seen or tasted a beer that wasn’t pale yellow, watery, and bland. Aside from various weird imports, it was among my first “revelatory” beers that informed me that this humble beverage contained endless possibilities. (It also happens to be perhaps the only beer on BA I’ve ever seen whose profile was added by @Todd.) And after more than 30 years, I would just like to taste it again out of a combination of nostalgia and curiosity.

Tumbler is the first one to pop into my head. There aren’t many brown ales, annd it’s a style I like. Plus, tumbler was my favorite. Relatively low abv, highly drinkability and a good price point. Much like celebration for winter when fall hit I would buy it a lot.

Maybe my favorite beer all time would be OG Alpine Nelson but there are so many good ipas that I might appreciate tumbler more.

i remember buying Pete’s Wicked Ale in 12 packs of bottles. That’s when we wanted to spend the money and get good beer.

Well that’s 11,560 beer profiles I haven’t looked at yet. But thanks for doing that.

Oh yeah, Pete’s and Sam Adams weren’t everyday beers, those were Saturday night beers.

    Greetings,
for obvious reasons you weren't able to meet her in here...
She was so rare that I only drank her twice before she ceased to exist. And one of these was a bottle shared in the company of the master brewer (the legendary Bruno Carilli, now boss of Livebarrels) and two other people, in 2007.
In my imagination it is certainly on the podium of the three Russian Imperial Stouts I drank: estream complexity, a thousand nuances and yet none that contrasted with the other. Extreme balance.
A product as rare as it is refined.
Happy to have tried this experience.
I talked about the RUSSIAN IMPERIAL STOUT from the Birrificio Toccalmatto .

    Many would have appreciated it.

(Initial thought - "Not this again," but, then "OK, I'll play...")

1970s versions of Ballantine XXX Ale from Ballantine and Falstaff's Narragansett breweries in Cranston, RI. My "house beer" during that era, always had a case of deposit/refillable bottles around, even as I was exploring all the other US and imported beers available. (The current version (sad imitation?) from Pabst brewed by Molson Coors is an extreme disappointment, the only thing in common with the original being the label).

    Stoudt's Honey Double Mai Bock!
That brew was my Mother's Milk back in the early days before it was contract brewed by Lion.
The contact stuff was passable, but not nearly as great as the brewery fresh kegs or the 750ml bottles. After Bill Moore the Brewer left, whoever filled his spot, the recipes changed slightly as well. Bill was a Master of crafting Carroll Stoudt's lager recipes.
Their Gold Lager is my runner up.
Honorable mention for Pete's Wicked Ale, but my home brewed clone satisfies my cravings for that classic.
If ANYONE reading this knows of a clone recipe for any original Stoudt's beers, I would be forever grateful.
Evil Genius, who took over Stoudt's beer portfolio were of no help at all.

While it might be 30 years since you've had it , it only disappeared about a dozen years ago. By then a brand purchased in the late 1990s by Gambrinus (at the time Corona and Moosehead importer, owner of Spoetzl, US Trumer, BridgePort, etc.) and IIRC contract-brewed by F X Matt. Before it's sale, Stroh (#4 in the US) was the contract-brewer and owned a minority share of the "Pete's" company, which never built its promised brewery. After the collapse and sale Pete Slosberg himself told the Denver Post:
The paper further noted that "...since the sale, he has all the appearance of a marketing tool, not unlike Colonel Sanders and fried chicken.":

What I would really like to do is go back to the early 70's, when I first started drinking beer, and see if Schlitz, Stroh's and Rolling Rock were actually as good as I thought they were.

Ah, yes. Back when their beers came in 750 ml. champagne-style bottles with crown caps and generic Stoudt's labels with a blank box for the style to be handwritten.

I've wondered that too, but our tastes have changed since then or we wouldn't be here. Stroh's would be at the top of my list to try. Most of my other favorites Like Stevens Point Special and Coors are available, though certainly changed, but I haven't been curious enough to seek them out.

Will stick local for my selections, the first of which I never had the pleasure of trying. Would be hard to pick between my final two selections, but going with 10/9 because I can still get A Little Crazy on draft.

One time release: Goose Island King Henry

Annual Release killed 2020: Spiteful Brewing 10/9 Bike Messenger Appreciation IPA - By far my favorite local WCIPA of all time.

Annual Distributed Release killed this year: Revolution A Little Crazy (should still be available on draft at the brewery/taproom).

While I’m sure threads like this have been done before, in my defense, before posting this I did conduct a due-diligence search for similar topics and got zero results. So it must have been the keywords I used, which were more or less variations on the words in the title to this thread.
I also did a due-diligence search for this beer before posting (to make sure it no longer existed) and was surprised to learn its demise was so recent. Not only have I not tasted Pete’s Wicked Ale since the early ‘90s—that is the last time I think I’ve ever seen it.
