I found Nugget Nectar to be a slightly less flavorful version of Surly Furious. You'd have to trade for it but it's on shelves everywhere in MN and Chicago so it's very doable.

Great Lakes Nosferatu is also a hoppy double red ale.

I also love this beer. Can't get it here, so I made a homebrew clone which is close enough for me.

Personally I think there is a difference between GL Nosferatu/G'Knight/Alesmith Yulesmith Winter(see my image on the left) and Troegs Nugget Nectar.

The first are really hoppy red ipas, while nugget nectar is just a more hopped up amber. It's a slight difference and probably mostly on the malt side, but there is a difference.

I always get confused when suggestions for beers like Nugget Nectar include those that are more red IPAs than a hoppy amber.

Happy to send you my recipe. I'm at work and will message you tonight. As @GetMeAnIPA said, Modern Times puts a link to many of their recipes on their beers pages.

Gordon/G'knight, Odell Red, and Marble Red came to mind. Unfortunately only Gordon makes it to your area.
Widmer Drop Top falls into a similar grouping and is common and affordable. Nugget is definitely better, though.

Anderson Valley Boont is a pretty good Amber, but it doesn't have the crisp hop character that NN has.

Also with NN, it really pays to get it on launch day. For some reason the hops overpower the malt profile after about a week of launch. And while its still a great ale even into March, the flavor profile just isn't as good.
