Ahhh another sunday another new beer...
Just got back Friday from Connecticut after a 15 hour drive ffs...
Today I am just watching football eating tons of bean dip and trying new beers lol.
Started off with Jolly Pumpkins Fuego del Otono a Biere de Garde brewed with chestnuts and spices......I've loved every other jolly pumpkin beer I've tried and figured since this a fall beer it was fitting...

A: Clear golden orange with frothy head that dissipated rather quickly leaving a nice rim of foam.
S: A tart golden fruit like apricot.. light nutmeg kinda spice in the back
T: Very similar to smell light tart tropical fruit at the front ending with an astringent fall Christmas spice like taste.
F: Light carbonation perfect actually imo ends a bit watery tho
O: not my favorite JP offering still very good but not blowing me away..

As always glad I tried something new love new beers especially on sunday
    happy nbs every one!

Hello NBS afficianados! After a frosty start, it's a beautiful sunny day around 60 degrees along the southern shore. I wasn't ready to say goodbye to my beautiful plant, so I tossed a sheet over it last night. With such a heat wave, it seems like a great time to review this session ale from 18th Street. Going with For Rent Citra hopped session pale ale that I bought on Friday at a local store. There's no abv. or bottle date, but it's a recent release still being sold at the brewery. Here we go!

Pours a hazy gold with some minimal white foam and carbonation bubbles. The aroma is floral up front, followed by mild notes of pineapple, mango and passionfruit. There is some spice and butyl hidden in the back. Flavor is floral forward as well, with the tropical notes following. A bit of grapefruit, pineapple, mango and butyl in the finish. The feel is thin and watery like many session ales.

Overall a decent session ale, but nothing that separates it from the rest except maybe the price. I gave 9 bucks for the bomber, and next time I'll put that money towards better beer/value. I think I'm starting to suffer from 18th Street bomber fatigue! My score was 3.85 r/Dev +4.1%.

Enjoy your new beers, I'll probably see you later with more. Link to review below......

The GF and I made a run to the Appalachian Mountains this weekend, and have had access to the internet here and there. When I got a chance I selfishly posted my beer fun, then tried to catch up with others, with which I had minimal success.

Being disconnected isn't a bad thing, and I was able to get some reading in (though I couldn't sync my progress ), but it also sucks in quite a few ways (especially when the weather battles you and you're mostly stuck inside). For instance, it woulda been nice to catch up on the news (but that is done online). Also, can't set my FanDuel lineup this week :grinning:.

Oh well, we watched a few more old movies like we usually do: Chasing Amy, The Gods Must Be a Crazy, Philadelphia. I also take the time to watch a bunch of the extras on the DVD, and some are interesting - especially the follow up on the main character of The Gods...

Anyhow, for a while I was thinking I hadn't brought along a beer for NBS. Then as I was having my Founders Breakfast Stout and cleaning up, I saw the beer to use that I had forgotten about.
Stone Stochasticity Your Father Smells of Elderberry: this ended up being more of a hoppy amber/red that didn't work for me.

The pour was like a hazy red wine, although after settling and warming, it cleared up and looked like a nice garnet.
The nose was difficult to get a hold of, but the berry and peated oat malt came through eventually.

The taste I summed up above, but the peat seems to come out as much as the berry in my taste. Also, interestingly I am noticing a pattern in oat malt - it doesn't add a smoothness to beer for me. In fact, in does almost the opposite-I generally find oatmeal stouts more rough on my palate than others. Maybe a weird quirk of mine?

Anyhow, wrote this up, and will post as I return to the plugged in world. Cheers all!

For my first one of the day I'm going big and old with a 2013 White Oak from the Bruery

Looks nice, huge unforced white frothy head atop this hazy pale gold beer. Little bit of sticky lacing drools lazily as well.

Nose jumps out with tons of wine straight away. Not a wine expert but I am pretty sure it's real similar to Chardonnay. Beyond the wine is something floral that bleeds off into a dark fruit exiting aroma, sort of like faint plum. All of that is blanketed by a nose tingling hint of heat.

Taste is far more mellow than the nose as yep, that's Chardonnay. Even the dry oakey finish makes me feel like I am actually drinking wine. A little more discernable on the next few swigs is a bit of balancing malt that brings just a bit of grain, but not anything that overwhelms. That job is really left to the wine taste. Exits with a lot of alcohol.

Body is of medium weight with lots of carbonation and an aftertaste of nearly overpowering astringency.

I appreciate this one but finishing the entire bottle is going to turn tedious I fear.

New Belgian Dubbel Sunday (week 556)

Greetings fellow NBSers from on the ridge in Mid Hud Val, NY. Chilly day, beautiful though, even as flurries romped across the sky. Had planned to find time for some mushroom picking today, but it is not to be.

Brought home a bounty of great fruit and vegetables from generous folks, including about 20 pounds of tomatillos picked yesterday. Salsa Verde anyone? This batch will be done with some beautiful homegrown habaneros, garlic and onion.

Right now am really enjoying a beer I was surprised to find I had never tried, Rochefort 6. Its brothers are favorites, but somehow 6 has eluded my enjoyment. What a beer, crafted delectably. It features some clean bready malt, light spice notes, tasty apricot or ripe peach in there, and a wonderful earthiness to the finish that keeps it from being too juicy. The finish is just a clean and delicious linger that begs for another sip.

Hope you also have a Great Beer in your glass. Cheers!

Good afternoon BA's! It has been a spectacular fall weekend in Tennessee, with blue skies and temps in the mid-60's and copious amounts of football and baseball. I had the house to myself today, and took advantage by brewing a grapefruit IPA for which I have high hopes. Chinook, Cascade and Zythos hops, with grapefruit zest coming in later. I'm excited about the beer, which slightly eases the pain of watching the Titans get their ass kicked at home once again...

While at the local bottle shop yesterday, this bomber caught my eye:

I've never had an oyster stout and the price was right ($4.99 - a hell of a lot cheaper than the Evil Twin bombers surrounding it), so here we are!

Poured into a pint glass. Lighter than I expected, almost tan on the pour from the bottle and a nice-looking dark copper-ruby in the glass. Light tan head that was generous and resilient, leaving faint tracks. The nose was big on dark chocolate up front, followed by a subtle whiff of oyster and ocean - much less than I expected. I also picked up some caramel and plum. I initially tasted the chocolate malt, with a dry charcoal undertone. I got very little salt or brine, but some oyster and ocean in the mid-palate - very understated which I liked. A faint minerally character. The chocolate and malt returned for the finish, with a faint bitterness. Full-bodied with medium carbonation. Overall a great stout that to me is more chocolate in experience than anything else. Cheers, BAs!

What was nice about it? How did it taste and smell? Did it remind you of any other beers? What would you say about it if this was a thread that asked you to describe your beer? Which, BTW, it is  Cheers!

Good afternoon again fellow NBS followers. We went out in the snow flurries here and did some more yard work. I gave our trumpet vine one hell of a hair cut as I'll need to replace the arbor it is growing around in the spring. While out this morning we stopped at Whole Foods in Nasuha and picked up a few beers this being one of the Hop Swap from Sebago Brewing in Me.

Picked this up today after seeing for the second time no dates on the so it is a crap shoot. Poured into my tulip glass a hazy golden color with a thin white head on top. The nose is earthy not much fruit . The taste is smooth with a pleasant bitterness no big attributes to the taste (nothing really jumps out but nothing bad either) This is a good solid beer just nothing special IMO.
I'll be honest here after drinking Foley Bros Prospect earlier anything else I rate today should be from a different style not from the IPA style so I'll give this review a couple days and see where I think it should be then.

    New English Stout Sunday!

    Happy NBSers,

Today started out cloudy, mid 50s, now this early afternoon, sunny, upper 60s, in the Grand Valley. This brew is tasty, but it is not a english stout, nor a stout in general, but not also a fruit beer. So, complex and tasty

Well to start, was excited to finally get some Alpine beers here in Ohio. Pours golden with a light haze. Has a nice piney aroma. Flavor is a a little bitter, kind of herbal / musty hops with a crisp finish. Leaves a light hoppy after taste. I enjoyed this, especially for a session IPA, but drinks more like a pale ale.

My reward for the beautiful drive I took to New Glarus yesterday afternoon. R&D Golden Ale.

It is hazy gold with a 3 finger white head that leaves behind thick webs of lacing. I immediately notice the Brett and barnyard funk on the nose. Fruity Belgian aromas along with some citrus and spicy hops. The flavor reminds me of a triple that has been hopped with citrus and tropical flavors. The funk plays in nicely and is very noticeable at the end with a bit of spice. It has a light and creamy feel with very prickly carbonation. All around delicious beer from NG.

    Good afternoon NBS#556!
So let's try out this IPA I picked up at Aldi last week
    Wild Range IPA
    [IMG]
Started sitting outside on the front porch, but the WIFI kept kicking out so moved inside to watch some football.

Poured out of a 12 oz. bottle into my Weyerbacher Cuvee tulip. No discernible date on the bottle.
Body is a dark golden orange with a full fingers worth of head; leaving a decent amount of lacing.
Some aromas of pine, orange and some dank grassiness.
Taste has some up front bitterness, slight amount of pine with some citrus; real light.
Light mouth feel with a lingering bitterness.
Overall, this is a decent IPA, MUCH better than I thought it would be, buying it from ALDI for $6.99! This isn't a mind blower or palate wrecker, but a good introductory IPA for someone just getting into craft beer.

    Cheers!

A- A hazy golden orange with a fluffy white head.

S- Citrus, piney, some grapefruit, earthy, not getting any vanilla.

T- Some citrus/grapefruit, big piney/earthy finish, slightly malty, hints of the vanilla.

M- Smooth, medium body, slightly creamy.

O- A good IPA from Mikkeller but not getting the vanilla. Flavors of the IPA would have been nice with the vanilla, but unfortunately it's not there. Taking points off for the lack of vanilla.

    New Blonde Barleywine Ale Sunday!

I am stoked to have this brew in my presence, these FW Box Beers usually sellout within a few Hours. So I am excited to see what this Muvfaka has to offer...a New Style Threshold got my beer bones aching! Let's see what this Biatch is talking about. First popping the top and pouring her out, she is Golden Honey with a bit of mysterious haze about her. Her crown was white as snow with tight bubbly texture...looking like a Relaxing Bubble Bath! She looks the part.

Aroma is going to take this brew to the next step! I twirl her around and take a deep whiff.. That is some Bourbon Goodness there! Rich Char and Vanilla takes your Nostrils on a Bourbon Journey. After the Vanilla leaves there's a Cinnamon Spice character that is present giving you a Warm invite. Mild toasted Coconuts is present adding a nice depth to this brew. Also faint Booze is detected. Just an amazing smelling Brew!

Time to taste this muv! Ok, let's discuss this. This doesn't taste as insanely great as the Aroma. The flavor first hits with some Honey Sweetness that flows with Barrel Notes (Charcoal, Vanilla, Coconuts and Spice). There's mild notes of Fruity esters toward the finish that seems out of place. This finishes Weak and Boozy with some alcohol bitterness on the sides of the Palate. The feel isn't improving anything for this, it's very light and carbonation is Cola-Esque.

Overall: This had potential to march a new trend in Beer Style Perversions. Making a Blonde Barleywine sounds pretty great if executed correctly. This though, not really providing a push to forward this type of Style Trend. This brew has a Great Aroma if you love Bourbon. It melts your face with its Barrel Notes, but the flavor is South of the aroma's Greatness. The flavor would be better if the Booze was tuned down a bit leaving for a better drinking experience. This proves to me that Firestone Walker can make a not so impressive brew. This brew is worthy.

    Grade: B

Cheers my fellow New Beer Sunday crew!
