Actually the last few sips on a near-room temp beer were the best, IMO. Seemed to have tipped a tad towards light smoked beer than sour by that point so maybe some more patience was necessary. Might also be why Ben didn’t detest it

    Wonderful!

Greetings, fellow NBSers, and thanks to @lordofthewiens for getting us going.

I'll start off with my joke contribution:
A whale couple walks into a bar. The bartender asks what he can get them.
The male whale says something along the lines of:

The female whale angrily turns to her date and says, "This is the first place we've been and you're already wasted?"

It's been fairly rainy the last few days until yesterday, which was cool and mostly clear. Right now it's a clear 56°, with highs expected to reach 65.° College football was hit and miss for me. My Eagles beat Montana State with their running game, unusually, whereas UW looked at what the Cougs did on Friday and apparently decided they liked the smell of what they were cooking. Truly an embarrassing week for my state at the FBS level. Since there's no Seahawks football today, I'm thinking about making a drive over to Coeur d'Alene and perhaps picking up something else for @bl00's next BIF box from me.

Early in the week I knocked out a grunt sent courtesy of Ohio's reigning BA madman, @WesMantooth:
    https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/33530/145771/?ba=woemad#review
I had my doubts, what with so few American smoked beers that I've liked, but this was the real deal, and quite drinkable, to boot. Looking forward to the other Wolf's Ridge beers WesMantooth has sent me.

Tuesday I was in Leavenworth, WA, for work and had a very tasty fresh hop pale ale at Icicle Brewing that was new to me called Apre´s Fresh (can't figure out how to do accents or umlauts using my phone). Postimage is randomly throwing a fit, even though it allowed the pic above to post properly, so I'm trying something different.

Insomnia kept me up until around 3am, so I'm getting a late start on what is my Saturday this week. I'll be back with a mystery beer from@WesMantooth and probably something else as well.

Don't buy beer in a dark cave. So yesterday stopped by my local store, went in the walk-in where the hide the SOS and picked up my 4-can limit. Noticed this Half Full beer with all the other specials. Now I have never has anything from them, but I figure this will be my NBS beer. The main light was out in the cooler and I was in a hurry, so it was grab and go. Well here we are today and I see that it is a peach wheat ale. Nothing wrong with that, but I tend to stay away from the fruit infused beers. Well here goes...
Pours pretty, despite my aggression and overflow, nice golden color body, aggressive head that fades rather quickly.
As you can see the label says "subtle fruit nose". Not subtle enough for me. Smells like that fruit infused water you can buy.
Front end tastes similar to the aforementioned fruit water, but the finish is wheat beer, light body, grainy, subtle alcohol at the very back.
I can see a lot of people liking this, but its not for me. I will try my hardest to rate by style, but you know how unconscious bias works.
I will try a more carefully chosen Half Full beer in the future.

Stillwater / Casita Cerveceria - On Fleek

    Stillwater Artisanal Ales
American Double / Imperial Stout / 13.00% ABV

    4.17/5 rDev +1% | Score: 4.13
    look: 4.25 | smell: 4 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4 | overall: 4.25

L- The beer pours a thick black with a 3 finger mocha head. The head recedes to a thin film and lacing is moderate.

S- Nose is typical for a imp stout. There are big elements of dark chocolate, a touch of sweetness, and an underlying wiff of alcohol.

T-On the palate the chocolate is prevalent with a sweeter overall presence than the nose implies. Alcohol is covered up much better here than in the nose. Hops are present, but overpowered by the malt and I'm ok with that.

F- Mouthfeel is medium plus and rather silky. Carbonation is very restrained after the initial pour.

O- Overall this is a very good Imperial stout that leans a little sweet. I will be on the lookout for this one again.

A blonde gets pulled over by a state trooper. As he gets to her car door, she gets out, drops to her knees, and starts to unzip his pants.

Ma'am, what are doing? Asked the trooper.

She looks up at him and says "don't you want to give me a breathalyzer?"

It's 54 degrees at 11:52 on a sunny fall day here in The City of Subdued Excitement. Traditionally, the second Saturday of October (yesterday) is the start of the rainy season here in the Fourth Corner, so I'll happily take whatever sun I get this time of year.

Starting off with a brew my roomie gave me, a pleasant beer, but nothing really noteworthy: https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/64/205200/

I'll be back in a bit to jump back into my BIF box from @RedhawkPoke .

    One of my favorites:
A man walks into a bar and orders a shot of whiskey then looks into his pocket. He does this over and over again. Finally, the bartender asks why he orders a shot of whiskey and afterwards look into his pocket. The man responded, "I have a picture of my wife in there and when she starts to look good then I'll go home."

Today's beer is courtesy of the recent BIF and the generous @beerloserLI. A bonus is that this is the beer's first review:

Forgotten Oats IPA, Moustache Brewing Co, Riverhead, NY
    [IMG]

Moderately hazy amber-orange color with a one-finger light tan head. Looks like a classic IPA rather than the NE style, despite the oats. Lots of tropical fruit on the nose - mango, tangerine, orange - and even blueberry. Faint bready malt as well. Lots of fruit on the palate with some floral notes. A subtle dry malt presence with moderate clean bitterness that lingered. A soft feel most likely from the oats. Slightly warming on the finish. Really tasty beer. Cheers!

Dare I Say... A Double IPA, Evil Twin and Other Half DIPA collab (8.5%), double dry hopped with Tomahawk, Mosaic, Motueka, and lupulin powders of Tomahawk and Mosaic... Opaque medium gold body with a big white head that left lots of webbed lacing behind... One of their big juicy beer smoothies - this one with lots of orange and lemon pith, with sugars of tropical fruits beneath... Only mildly bitter, moderately sweet, smooth and soft with ample carbonation... Creamy and delightful...

Good afternoon NBS! Had to take last week off due to a cold, so have a little making up to do.

First, bad joke of the day:

    Q. Why did God invent Jameson whiskey?
    A. So the Irish would never rule the world!

So while I had a cold last Sunday, the day before I was feeling pretty good so got to head out to the Blacksburg Brew Do. Lots of tasty beers there, but this one stood out when I sampled it just due to being different and fairly tasty. Turns out it had only been kegged the day before and it only showed up in stores two days ago, so nice and fresh.

Three Notch'd Apple Crumb Amber Ale

Pours a dark red/amber color with a thick head that slowly fades into plenty of lacing.

Smells like apple pie, a little malt, apples, and cinnamon.

Taste follows, a little crumb crust flavor, apples, and a light cinnamon flavor. Lingering apple cinnamon flavor.

    Medium body, low carbonation.

Flavor is as advertised, tastes like apple crumb. It's easy drinking and a nice change of pace with the other beers of the season. The rest of this six pack should go down pretty darned easy.

Good afternoon and happy New Buddy Sunday! Most of you may have caught on by now that @cjgiant , myself, and our respective crews met up this weekend to rub shoulders, shoot the sh*t, and knock back a couple at one of my local favorites, Great Notion Brewery. Of course, a friendly exchange partook once the dust settled and we went our separate ways. This beer comes courtesy of Craig, and as I saw him as well as the great @vabeerguy indulge in it this week, I felt it was my turn for a new beer and brewery to me. Since the family is moving exceptionally slow (again), it's time to enjoy:

    Union Craft Brewing
    Double Duckpin-
    Double IPA

Double Duckpin pours a vibrant bright orange color with lots of unfiltered goodies floating around. Not an opaque looking juice bomb, but a liquid orange marmalade color if you will. A hefty and foamy white head sits on top then ripples out to just the sides of the glass. Moderate lacing.

Orange and grapefruit juice surround the air. The citrus is well met by what a morning walk through a damp forest of pine gives off. A touch of lime zest brings it back full circle.

The domination of citrus flows directly into the flavor. More tangerine like in this facet, but all are still there. There is a quick notion of what might be mango or papaya, but it's quickly taken over by a rind and pine needles taste, and yes, I've had pine needles in my mouth once or twice (or a thousand times...don't ask).

The medium juicy feel comes to a bitter and dry finish. It's a bit bubbly and prickly as it flows from front to back. The bitterness lingers, and I like that.

Double Duckpin should be able to please any DIPA fan out there, regardless of style preference. It's fresh, flavorful, big, bold, familiar, and unique all at the same time. It's what a DIPA should be without being monotonous, and a real pleasure to experience. Cheers, and thanks Craig!

After my official review, I gave this a 4.39 with an rDev of +3.1%

To Øl D's Nuts, 12% ABV. Pours black with a three finger brown head that left lots of lacing. Nose is an incredible chocolate/cocoa and lactose, taste follows with some sweetness and moderate bitter close. Not detecting much nut flavor. Excellent mouthfeel, overall excellent. With a bit less bitterness this would be outstanding. Nose is reminiscent of Samuel Smith's Organic Chocolate Stout.

With the holiday looming I figured I would throw a Halloween joke out there.

Why don't witches wear any underpants?

It gives them a better grip on the broom!

Well, here is my last BIF beer from @beertunes

Hopruption Double IPA from Sumerian Brewing Co.

Clear light orange n the pour. A fair amount of head that never completely goes away. Super sticky lacing clings to the glass. Nose is fruity. Bitter hops rush in on this one but let up for a really sweet finish. Slightly astringent but it has a nice and soft feel. Great carbonation. Kind of a messy mashup of malt/hops here.

Just got back from my twin boys soccer and man do I need a NBS. This is courtesy of @smanson56 ‘s killer box(es) from the latest NBS BIF #6.
Returned today from Founder’s 20th Anniversary party in Grand Rapids. Honestly not trying to hype anything up but I thought the 20th anni beer, Tank Bender was definitely solid. Only slight bit of heat that should mellow nicely in the next year.

Assumed fresh can poured into tulip.
Golden yellow with orange highlights and white head. Tropical fruit, mango on the nose. Dankness, pine, floral and big burst of tropical fruits. Slight grapefruit bitterness at finish. Medium body, right where it needs to be. Prefer more bitterness to the sweet but solid IPA. 4.1
