16oz can served in a footed pilsner glass. If there's a date, I don't see it. Got it in a trade with @NorsemanOne.

Pours clear light yellow, medium sized airy head on the pour, settles to a thick, somewhat uneven meniscus, sustained by a moderate amount of carbonation. Smell is lager yeast, lemon, grass, maybe some honeysuckle / floral sweetness.

Taste is somewhat mineral, more lemon and floral, moderate bready / yeasty.

Mouthfeel is light, smooth, maybe a bit on the watery side. Overall, unassuming, enjoyable beer.

From @LehighAce06 Forest Main Wall of Time, Inspired by Kolsch. 4.3% ABV. 3.85 overall

Pours a bright & effervescent gold with 2+ fingers of pearl colored head. Stays effervescent throughout, great head retention & lacing

S: Bready, a little grassy, nose picks up as this warms up

T: Follows the nose, some doughy notes, limes, dryness & floral hops. more grassyness, dryness & floral hops as this beer warms up, some pear notes & bready sweetness as well. Finishes dry with hints of lime, breadyness, plenty of grassiness

    MF: Medium body, lively carbonation

Fairly easy to drink, but a little drier than I am used to for the style, minor markdowns

Good afternoon, Weekenders! Today's next new beer is a cellar pull: Biere de Norma by Hill Farmstead.

Another excellent farmhouse ale from Hill Farmstead - this one in the Biere de Garde style, unsurprisingly.

Roughly equal parts funky, sour, and farm...farm-y. I don't know how else to put it (rustic, I suppose). It's not among their best, in my opinion; while it all comes together quite nicely, there isn't much in the flavor that really stands out. Mouthfeel is smooth and full for the style - but then, it clocks in at 7% ABV, and was brewed with honey, so that makes sense.

Overall a very, very satisfying beer.

I was confused by this beer when I first entered it on BA. Untappd lists this as an imperial stout. However, only 20% of this is stout. I grabbed another can recently and I'm excited to give it another try. Cheers!

I am working hard to draw down the beers I need to review in my fridge. This is one that I got a few weeks back when I went to Blackstack Brewing.

Tasty, and it has a nice hop finish. Glad I got it.

From a 16oz can purchased at the brewery.

This beer is mostly clear pouring, with just a slight haze to it. Golden in color and it has a 1 finger white head. Head retention is ok, but there's no lacing on the glass.
The aroma is malty, but light. There's a cereal grain aroma to this beer.
The flavor is malty. Up front it is grainy and cereal like. There's a slight sweetness in this part of the beer. The grain fades and a nice pleasing hop bitterness appears. This bitterness does linger, but not like a strong IPA. The bitterness is pleasing.
Lighter bodied. Bubbly. Crisp and clean.
Tasty and refreshing beer after a good long beer session.

I'll see if I have one more in me today. Cheers my fellow beer enthusiasts.

We met two couples for lunch at an inn, so notes are scarce but the beer is simple enough.

Poured from tap, the body is a yellow-orange with a fluffy white head. Minor lacing.

Aroma and flavor are in alignment: a light wheat grain flavor with lightly sweet watermelon. Taste dries up quickly and was very refreshing on this warm summer day. It paired very well with a salad of strawberries and greens.

Mouthfeel was good with plenty of carbonation and a softer, lighter than anticipated feel.

An enjoyable enough beer for me to consider in the future.

Surly - Eighteen, 11% Belgian strong pale

16oz can (in a box) served in a St. Bernardus chalice. Canned 03/18/24. Received from @Victory_Sabre1973 during NBS BIF #18.

Pours a honey gold, pretty clear, smallish head, moderate retention, pretty and even patina across the surface. Little visible carbonation. Smell is banana and clove, spices, earthy undertones.

Taste tracks the aroma pretty well. There's more booziness here, and the banana seems much riper, and the spices are a bit more muted. Earthy undertones are amplified a bit, too.

Mouthfeel is big, smooth, clean. Overall, quite nice.

I did not recognize that it was a blend, but that makes a lot of sense, it was very, very dark and stouty for a barleywine, but also very clearly a barleywine. Enjoyed that one a lot, and it put me to bed

I remember reading about it on their site, and knew that it would be an insta buy for me. I've not been a big Surly fan lately, because a lot of their new releases have been sub par, but, damn, that beer was delicious. Glad you liked it.

Collaboration with Live Oak Brewing Company.
Best by 10/22/24 and canned five months earlier.

Moderate pour yields a one inch white head over a straw colored, ever so slightly hazy body with some lacing.

Medium smokey nose with a bready malt, like nearly burnt toast.

Taste is smoke, not too light, not too heavy; near perfect!

Mouthfeel is very nice with more than medium carbonation almost filling the mouth.

Overall, a great example of the style from right up Trapp Hill Rd. here in Stowe.
Don't miss out on this one-off!

Cheers to Tommy and crew for a job well done!!

Blegian Golden Strong from Blindman in Lacombe, Alberta. Grabbed this on my recent trip. Comes in at 11.3% ABV

2021 vintage poured at fridge temp. Pours a golden orange (opaque) with a solid 2 inches of fluffy white head. Retention is off the charts. The nose is bloody delightful. Lemon meringue pie, wheat, biscuits, malts, apricot and honey.

The taste is an explosion of lovely flavors. A perfect sweetness to it. Caramel candy, more lemon, slight leather, oak, grass, ever-so-slight citrus peel, honey, apricot, sourdough bread, and a nice spice. What a wonderful beer.

The mouthfeel is medium bodied and the aftertaste is a caramel sweetness mixed with oak.

Yeah, worthy of the hype, but it doesn't shock me. The beer has so many layers to it, and I know I didn't do justice to them. It is delicious as heck.

    From a bottle.

A bit of a hiss and a puff of smoke upon opening the bottle. This beer is clear pouring and golden in color. There's a 1 finger white head that forms. The head retention is decent. There's a small bit of lacing on the glass.
Aroma is just a cereal and grain bomb. Hints of honey also show up in the aroma.
Taste - This is a grain beer but also has many layers to it. I get a cereal grain flavor that just lingers. There's a hint of honey like sweetness. There's a floral element to the beer that pops in to say hi. There's also a bit of a funk, and wild flavor in this beer.
Very good body. Full feeling. Bubbly. Clingy.
Damn, this is downright amazing. I guess I'm not surprised by this fact.

It's getting close to the end, but there may be another beer for me this weekend.

16 ounce can, 2-3 weeks old.

Moderate pour yields a 1.5 inch pink head over a reddish-purple body with lacing.

Nose of blueberry, lemon, and hops.

Taste is slightly sweet blueberry and sour lemon. Tart, but not too tart.

Feel is pretty full with near medium carbonation.

Overall, I enjoyed this fruited kettle sour more than most of its kind and would recommend.

Cheers to the guys down in Tunbridge!!!

Great Lakes - Barrel Aged Blackout Stout

16oz can served in a Monhegan pint glass. 2023C1 15HH 15:35:13 is stamped on the bottom, but the most I can extract from that is that this was probably canned last year. Got it from @Ozzylizard in NBS BIF #18.

Pours black, dark brown at the edges, small head, little carbonation. Smell is burnt chocolate, charred barrel, some vanilla, black licorice maybe.

Taste is more on the straight-up imperial stout side with accents of barrel aging, which is excellent, because that's closer to what I was kind of looking for. Dark, almost burnt coffee, burnt toast, overdone toffee, toasted nuts, with a little bit of boozy vanilla highlighting.

Mouthfeel is light and smooth ("distressingly light" is accurate, but doesn't convey the enjoyability). Overall, very nice beer.

Apparently I had the non-barrel-aged version of this beer about a decade ago, but I don't remember it clearly. Except I think I remember drinking it in a hotel.

I think I may be mercifully out of the Jack's Abby haul...

Destination: New Zealand - a New Zealand style pilsner. Decoction mashed with Pilsner malts. Coolpool hopping with Nelson and Motueka.

Pours light gold and clear. Fluffy white head that lasts a bit before ending in a thin cap. Light lacing.

Smell opens slightly sweet honey and bready. Citrus follows with lemon and lime. A little green apple and a little white grape. There's some light spice and some grassiness.

The taste rolls similarly. The lime and lemon quickly take over from the sweet malts. Pineapple and tropucal mango. I get a touch of green apple and very slight white grape. There's a building peppery spice on the back end and some floral/grassy notes in the aftertaste aromatics.

The feel is medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Decent bitter kick but not overwhelming.

It's another good one taking the pilsner base in a slightly different direction. Hard to keep these series beers straight... Not a huge fan of lime and this one has almost more than I want. Thinking around a 3.8.
