    16 ounce can packaged 08/15/24.

Moderate pour yields a 3/4 inch white head over a very bright golden amber body with lacing.

Nose of malt mostly, with hints of spice and hops.

Taste mirrors nose perfectly with malt front and center,
but allowing a slight hop bitterness to come through very nicely.
Finishes with a bit of caramel and slight toffee.
    Delicious!

Mouthfeel is better than average with more than medium carbonation.

Overall, a nice reward for a busy week at work!!
Don't sleep on this one, folks.
    Cheers!!!

This is a local brewery that was created by another local brewery so they could brew things other than French Provincial style beers and stay true to their original calling.
Brewery Vivant, a local standout, started Broadleaf brewery, a niche brewery doing the popular styles. Some are quite good, most are, well, sufficient. This one falls in between.

When this was cold, right out of the fridge, it was almost amazing. Rich depth of flavors with mangoes and nectarines and grapefruit pith is and a little white wine aspect. There is an almost piney taste at the swallow. It all works together well.
Then I let it warm up a little, as is my normal practice, to let more of the flavors come out.
This is the first time that has been a mistake.
The flavors got muddled and the piney swallow disappeared. The most curious thing. It was like a completely different beer.
Huh. For once, “Keep Cold, Drink Fresh” should be taken very literally.
Interesting beer though, may need to try it again without letting it warm up any.

    Weltenburger kloster
...really nice looking solid amber with a lasting white head
...below average carbonation with a slightly thin body.
...aroma is bread, malt, sugary and earthy in an odd way.mildly floral with some honey
...taste has some mild sweetness, sugary and malty with the malt lingering long in the aftertaste.
There's an interesting hop dryness that shows up in the middle but gets swallowed up by the malt finish.
...overall it seems to be lacking something but sort like saying Mona Lisa wasn't pretty, its still very good. took some warming up to it,literally as its better as it warms up[IMG]

Fluffhead - Imprint Beer Company - Hatfield, PA - American Imperial Stout - 13.2%

This beer could be a hot mess with what was added to it. Well, it isn't a mess at all. This is so effing delicious. So well balanced overall. Damn!

    2024 release. From a 500ml bottle.

After I got through the annoying wax on the bottle, I did let it sit out of the fridge for a bit to warm up. There's a slight hiss and smoke upon opening the bottle. This beer pours like motor oil - pitch black. Very thick looking. There's no head on this beer, just a tan circle in the glass that rotated and dissipated to nothing. Somewhat cool looking.
The aroma is just crazy. There's so much going on here. I get a strong chocolate note. I get a ton of marshmallow, peanut butter, vanilla and coffee. Jeez, these aromas are so intense and powerful, yet work together.
Taste - Wow! The flavor starts off with a chocolate hit, that is slightly sweet, but not too sweet. The chocolate is added to by a bit of a coffee hit. The peanut butter comes in next and just makes the flavor jump. The vanilla and marshmallow round it out. All the flavors are there in the end, and are just added to.
Thick, creamy full body. Smooth as all heck. Where's the burn? I'm not getting it, but I know to take it slow by the thickness.
Holy cow! This beer could be a sloppy mess, but, they just balanced the heck out of the flavors to produce an amazing beer.

That's all today. I will hopefully be back tomorrow for more new beers.

From the alphabet soup that is Hoppin Frog's naming system this is Barrel Aged D.O.R.I.S the Destroyer

16oz can stamped BEST BY JAN 15 2034 poured into a tulip pint glass at fridge temp 12.7% ABV. The beer pours pitch black absolutely impenetrable to light with medium brown colored head. The head recedes to a thin cap and leaves no lacing. The aroma is moderate in strength featuring notes of very dark chocolate, expresso, oak barrel, anise and whiskey. The taste is bittersweet roasted malt with ashy burnt oak, expresso, mild vanilla and whiskey. Moderate bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium plus bodied with just less that average carbonation and a mostly dry finish. The 12.7% ABV is well hidden in all aspects. Overall, world class RIS. If you enjoy classic roasted malt driven bitterness and burnt flavors, you will love this beer.

After quite the search for this specific beer on BA, I'll be excited if I get the opportunity to try regular D.O.R.I.S the Destroyer or D.O.R.I.S the Destroyer Extended Barrel Aged...

    16 ounce can packaged 07/29/24.

Moderate to vigorous pour yields a 3/8 inch white head over a murky golden body with scant lacing.

Nose of citrus (orange, lime, lemon) and a bit of grape with slight tropical fruit as well.

Taste of sweet citrus, white grape, lemon, and lime. Finishing with very slight citrus pith bitterness.

Fairly good feel with near medium carbonation.

Overall, a tasty stab at a juicy New England IPA from Bahstin.
    Cheers!

Thank you @ANIMOUL for recommending this in one of your posts. Your comments on quality and price had me seek this one out. Tonight is our last night on vacation, stopping halfway in Hartford to spend the night near my aunts and uncles; it’s always fun but probably no time for new beer tomorrow.

    Excited for this one…

Good Measure Brewing - Riser (Cream Ale 4.8%)

Pours light straw, pretty much clear with light chill haze, head is white and for the style it’s got pretty good retention.

Nose is lightly sweet, light hop presence; dry leaf like, perhaps a touch of white bread.

Taste is nicely balanced, light corn like sweetness, little bit of white bread; light grassy hops on the back end.

Mouthfeel is light; nicely crisp on the finish, that sweetness in taste really dries out pretty well; there is a low but noticeable bitterness.

This beer strikes a very nice balance, it will serve me well in NJ where our highs are still summer like unfortunately; drinkable and refreshing.

Thanks for recommending this one @ANIMOUL I really am enjoying it. I also grabbed a single of there Vermont Lager called Townie, I will save for another NBW post.

Cheers everyone; I doubt I’ll get to a beer tomorrow but I have a nice little stash for the next few weeks.

    Rari Italian pilsner
    ....very clear light amber/orange appearance
...medium carbonation with about a medium body which all added up to a nice feel
...aroma is yeast, grain, very light citrus with a little floral honey
...taste doesn't stray too far from the aroma. Very, very mild sweetness but otherwise its cereal, grain, malt and yeast.
...really well done attempt at the style[IMG]

My first new beer this weekend is Double Barrel Liminal Space from Temporal Artisan Ales in Vancouver, British Columbia. A blend of munichwines aged in Buffalo Trace bourbon and Brazilian amburana barrels. Then aged in a single Buffalo Trace barrel for 22 months. 14% ABV and one of 400 bottles.

Poured from a bottle at fridge temp. Pours a very dark brown with a tiny layer of light brown head. The nose is bloody amazing. The amburana comes through immediately, which makes me very happy as I LOVE amburana wood. Cinnamon, bourbon, toffee, maple, clove, and vanilla.

The taste is incredible. As with the nose, the amburana punches first. Huge notes of fig, toffee, cinnamon roll (from the amburana), bourbon, vanilla, raisins, brown sugar, and a bit of chocolate. Wow.

There are a few amazing things about this beer. First, it's a munichwine but it isn't too sweet (not even close). The intensity and breadth of flavor that came without any adjuncts is amazing. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and the aftertaste is a cinnamon/bourbon mix. Just a lovely beer. I am blown away right now.

Very good looking beer. The body doesn't stand out, but there's a world class head on this bad boy, with a finger and a half of dense, foamy white head with excellent retention and lacing. Aroma is also excellent, with loads of citrus pith and pine.

Taste is grapefruit and miscellaneous citrus, with a light hop bite. Surprisingly thin.

    Overall, a nice pale ale.

Microcosm IV from The Eighth State in Greenville, SC. I used to live in Clemson, so Greenville was a common weekend destination for us. This is an imperial stout aged 15 months in a Willett family Estate 7 year rye barrel with toasted coconut and Mexican vanilla. Comes in at 13.3% ABV and was bottled in December of 2020, and this is apparently only 1 of 200 bottles.

Poured at fridge temp. This has aged for almost 4 years in the bottle and I never tried it fresh. Pours a very viscous black - like super thick old engine oil that has been in the engine for 20,000 miles. Coconut flakes are present and quickly float to the top.

The nose is amazing. Coconut, vanilla, milk chocolate, rye spice, marshmallow, and prunes.

The taste is out of this world. Vanilla for days. Coconut, chocolate, toffee, maple doughnut, truffle, raisin, plum, and slight blackberry. Just lovely.

The mouthfeel is thick as hell. Almost at the point of being creamy. The aftertaste is sweet vanilla and toffee.

    Yuengling — Oktoberfest

Another curiosity Oktoberfest purchase. I didn't have high expectations. I guessed that it would be an OK beer, not very close to style, but drinkable, and reasonably priced. Was I right?

The beer is copper brown, with a fluffy head.

The nose is of caramel and toasted bread.

The taste is a toasty version of Yuengling traditional lager.

Similar to their flagship, the mouthfeel is thin and not very flavorful.

Overall, it is an OK beer, not very close to style, but drinkable, and reasonably priced.

Lovely day here in SE MA with low humidity and mostly clear skies. We are still seeing a bit of a haze from wildfire smoke. Forced to cut the grass since it was taller than all three dogs standing on top of each other. Rehearsed our handbell trio at noon, went to lunch at our long time favorite Thai joint. Good sushi and brought a noodle dish home for dinner.

@JackHorzempa - great kickoff and later dialogue. @jonphisher - enjoying the travelogue.

    The beer:

Barreled Souls Speakeasy Watermelon Margarita aged in rum barrels, using watermelon, prickly pear, lime, and simple syrup. Yeah...lime...brrrr...

Pours an odd color - it's pretty much pinkish light brown. Dirty white bubbly head that lasts quite a while until.forming an eighth of an inch layer.

You can smell watermelon, slight sweetness, and just a little bit of lime. There's a slightly stronger liquor smell from the rum. Sweet melon and faint bubblegum - prickly pear. As with all the Speakeasy series, it does pay homage to the cocktail.

The taste follows right in step with the smell. It's definitely sweet from the watermelon, prickly pear, and simple syrup but there's enough of the base gose to hold it in check...barely. The lime shows up late and further counters the sweetness with some acidity as well as the lime flavor. There's a candy or bubblegum aromatic that comes out just a little.

Feel is a bit on the sticky side - not cloying but you know you've had some sweet stuff. Definitely one to keep ice cold.

Overall it's pretty good - fun flavors and the lime doesn't dominate. It's a bit Jolly Rancher-ish, maybe. I'm thinking 3.75 or so.

Jester King West Coast IPA, 6.3% abv; 3.97 overall

Pours an effervescent gold with a thumb+ of eggshell colored head. Above average head retention & good lacing

S: Bready, a little citrus, this could be better

T: Follows the nose, some pronounced pineyness & dryness as well up front. Pineyness, dryness, some cattyness & bready sweetness as this beer warms up, a little grapefruit too. Finishes dry, piney with a little breadyness & grapefruit

MF: Medium body, dialed back carbonation, good balance

Straight forward, old school WCIPA, easy to drink

    Good evening denizens of NBW!
Bought a few months ago without realizing it was from 2022.
    That stated, here we go.
Poured stout black, with a 2 cm light brown head that left no lacing. But that isn’t bad for a BA stout.
The taste leaves no doubt about being aged in bourbon barrels, the bourbon is heavy yet doesn’t overwhelm the base stout. And it is a good, if not amazing, base stout.
The feel is lightly viscous, quite appropriate for the style and ABV.
OA, touch more bourbon than ideal, but it’s still very good.

    See you tomorrow for NBS!

Upper Hand Skywatcher Black IPL, 6.8% ABV; 3.97 overall

Pours a chestnut hued mahogany with 2 fingers of tan head. Nice head retention & lacing

S: Some brown bread notes, a touch of woody hops, some anise notes once warm

T: Dryness, woody hops, a little brown bread & brown sugar up front. A little roastyness comes through as this beer warms up, along with woody hops, dryness, a kiss of molasses as well, slight smokiness. Finishes dry with woody hops, a touch of brown sugar, pine & a little cola

MF: Medium body, soft carbonation, decent balance

Probably the first Black IPL I've had, drinks very easy. To me, a cross between a Schwartz & an IPA

Pours a very hazy gold with 2+ fingers of pearl colored head. Very nice head retention & lacing

S: Some tropical fruit & a little citrus, pushes forward a little more once warm

T: Mango, guava, tangerine, passion fruit & strawberry? up front, plus a little dryness & tangerine. Some tangerine, more strawberry, guava, mango & lime as this beer warms up. Finishes with mango, guava, tangerine, strawberry, pineapple, a little vanilla, some grassy notes & dryness

MF: Medium body, firm carbonation, very nice balance

All in on the tropical flavors, super & dangerous drinkability. Wish the nose matched the flavor. I would still buy this all day
