Drekker Cyber Scream TNEIPA, 10% ABV. Pours hazy bright gold, with a two-finger snow white head that left foamy lacing. Nose is fruity. Taste is a mashup of fruits including melons and tropical, light sweetness and moderately bitter. Excellent mouthfeel, overall excellent to outstanding.

Taking a break from replacing outlets and switches, I've gotten about half of the house done. Old ones were starting to wear out after 25 years. In the process I've found a number of mistakes the original electricians made, like untightened terminals and a miswired three-way circuit. The new ones are Leviton Renu, which come in 20 colors and the plates are screwless.

Good Saturday afternoon, New Beer Weekenders. Magnify Brewing Co., one of the pillars of our local craft scene, it celebrating its 6th Anniversary this week. Early in it's days of brewing it produced a series of Farmhouse-styled beers, the "Woah" series. I enjoyed a pour of Woah Nelly, the Farmhouse DIPA hopped with Nelson Sauvin, the first time I visited the small, raucous taproom, 2016. I wasn't able to make notes and never reviewed this beer. I recall wanting to buy cans but they were sold-out. So, 5 years later, a proper review. I'm drinking it in my circa. 2016 Magnify tulip glass.

It pours an opaque, bright golden orange with more than a finger of fluffy, milk-white head and spotty lacing. On the nose there is bready yeast with a hint of Belgian funk, lite citrus, and floral hops. The taste opens with a tangerine sweetness balanced by tart lemon and grapefruit and white wine grape from the generous use of Nelson Sauvin hops. The malt in the background provides some additional sweetness. And the farmhouse influence is obvious; it provides just enough funk to make the taste unusual. The mouth feel is surprisingly lite and crisp for the 8% ABV. Overall, it's been a long time since I first had this beer on draught at the brewery and I'm enjoying the canned version immensely. I hope Magnify doesn't wait so long to brew it again.

While Woah Nelly isn't my favorite Magnify DIPA by a longshot, it's nicely crafted and brings back great memories of the early days of one of my go-to breweries.

Second new beer of the weekend: Opalescent Tree Shark by Cloudburst.

16oz can served in a can-shaped pint glass. Dated 5/13/21. Bought it at the brewery a couple days ago.

Pours hazy yellow-amber with a huge head that collapses to a moderately thin cap, thick and craggy. Smell is pineapple and resin.

Taste is pineapple, a little mango and citrus, more pith, maybe a little melon. With a strong bitter finish.

Mouthfeel is light and smooth. Overall, very good beer.

Jumping off with a new beer to me, new brewery to me, and a newly added to the database by me. Here we go, a SoCal take on a hazy.

Bunny With A Chainsaw by Paperback Brewing in Glendale, CA.

    16 oz can. No date.
Fluffy white cap pushes more than 2 fingers high. hazy straw to subdued orange in hue. Good retention. Pretty nice layered lacing.
Nose pumps grass and then citrus notes go orange and lemon zest. A smooth grain note is also detected, but tamed by a slightly herbal onion note. As it sits, notes of pineapple and mango come through as well. This all works well together.
Flavor is mostly following the grass, citrus and grain from the nose.
Mouthfeel is medium, decent carb, and a very light prickly finish. Lively.
    Overall, pretty solid.

Howdy NBSers! Got up early for work today, and the product wasn't ready to be packaged. I coulda stayed in bed. Starting my beer day with a new one from Reuben's, Golden Gardens. I guess this is a Golden/Blonde ale, but the breweries website had no details under the beers listing, just marketing jargon. Is it so fucking hard to put the damn style on the label? Apparently so:

Trillium Twice the Daily Serving with Raspberry. As I've said with other iterations in this series, this can really hardly be called beer; it ostensibly has a Berliner-like base, topped off with tons of fruit puree. What I can say is that these are probably the best fruited beers I've ever had, just exploding with fresh fruit, with no weird lactose or flour additives. I'm a little torn between this and the mixed-berry version that @tasterschoice62 sent me as my first exposure to the series. That one was slightly more complex, but the off-the-wall raspberriness of this puts just as big a smile on my face. Oh, and the mouthfeel of the "Twice" versions is a pure delight. It's probably a good thing that Trillium limits its shipments to PA residents (three 4-packs a month), or I'd be drinking these every day. Cheers!

Slightly cloudy brown body; fairly thick and dense light khaki hued head. Warm beer wort smell; roasted grain and nutty. Sweet and nutty flavor with a nice touch of vanilla; hazelnut; mild to moderate bitterness. Medium body; a bit of residual sugar feel yet also a tad watery overall; semi-sweet feel throughout.

A very nice brown ale overall that combines some nice hazelnut elements to the overall taste and aroma.

Served at 53° F and "CANNED ON 05/20/20".

...cleaning out the 'Fortress of Solitude' beer fridge of older beers...this particular one was gifted to me by my neighbor 'Tactical Bob', a notorious west-coast IPA fiend...I haven't shared a beer with Bob in ages...he's an old fuck, somewhere in his early to mid-80s and of questionable health, but as an old school USA Special Forces officer, he still plugs along despite what old age is throwing at him...

...the beer itself is a fine, malt-forward beer, and despite being about a year old, it has aged well and is a pleasure to consume on this cloudy, stormy, wild-ass Colorado Front Range weekend day...

De Struise / 3 Floyds - Shark Pants

    "Belgian" IPA from Belgium (9%).

Pours a slightly cloudy, dark amber, coppery coloration with a medium, fluffy head. Smells of caramel malt and resinous, citrus hops, with notes of grapefruit and pine.

Taste is a great balance of caramel malt and bitter, resinous, fruity hops, with citrus notes of grapefruit as well as a strong, quite resinous pine presence and lighter accents of spice, with just a hint of cardamom. Finishes with a medium/strong bitterness and some grapefruit and pine lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.

Despite some lightly spicy Belgian yeast accents, which actually add an interesting character to this and go well with the bitter, resinous hops, this feels a lot more like classic, old school West Coast IPA than a Belgian IPA, not that there's anything wrong with that. It's really dominated by a strong resinous pine character, which I love, as well as some zesty citrus, the aforementioned spice and a very solid caramel malt backbone.

The claim of 300 IBUs seems highly exaggerated though, or is perhaps proof that the human tongue simply cannot perceive bitterness beyond a certain level. However, I certainly seem to remember having a beer or two that felt more bitter to me and didn't claim 300 IBUs. Overall, this makes for a terrific West Coast IPA with a certain Belgian touch that's big on the bitter, resinous hops, which are balanced very nicely against some sweet caramel malt.

Currently listening to: WIZO - Kopfschuss.

Aroma is mango, papaya, blueberry, pineapple, and apricot really pleasant. 4.25

Taste follows papaya, mango, blueberry, pineapple, and apricot low on bitterness but big on flavor. 4.5

Oh my, weekenders. This is my first beer sitting down with you all and doing a formal review, and ... I'm not pleased.

This is Humble Forager's Rugged Outlook, a 9% ABV IIPA (of the hazy NE style), with oat cream and wildflower honey, and hopped with Citra, El Dorado, Vic Secret, and Galaxy.

Quite simply, something does not play well here.

I don't know if it's the oat cream, the honey, or the interplay of some bad hop crops, but something is off. About halfway through, I'm drain pouring the rest of this.

The Good: very attractive beer (for a murk bomb). Very nice nose. Fantastic, creamy mouthfeel.

The Bad: how it tastes. That's ... kind of a deal-killer right there. Directly from my review:

"Somehow a touch sour on the palate; something isn't playing quite right. The bright herbal notes are at first pleasant, if a touch green and vinous, but give way to a menthol-like flavor. A bit of dirt-like earthiness. There are nice citrus notes, and it's not exactly bad, but it's really not what I expected, and those notes I've described are not traditionally pleasant."

To summarize: dirt; menthol; vegetation. Plus some citrus. And it's barely a month old.

Is it all bad? No, not really. Can I finish it? No, not really. Am I sad I only got a single? No, not really.

I know Humble Forager can knock this style out of the park, but this one was a miss.
