Definitely picked up on several of the same things here. I loved how full it was but still how balanced it was as you stated. Also the “not too sweet” aspect it’s almost like I kept expecting these rich flavors to come off as sweet but they never did. I may even get a 12 pack of this for the winter! Great stuff.

#2, the beer nerd conundrum: rate the beer to style, or rate it to how it tastes?

    Let’s do this.

This winter ale pours a crystal clear mahogany brown color with a light tan head that is positively clingy on the glass. The nose is stone fruit, a bit of toffee, and a decent amount of resiny pine.

The stone fruit flavor is at the forefront of the taste, with a significant cherry flavor that yields a bit to the toffee flavor - and then the resiny pine flavor kicks in and takes this beer MILES away from “Winter WarmerVille.” It’s more in the “Red IPA” category with a bit more dark malt (hence the toffee flavor and coloring) which works exceptionally well for me, because I love hops.

But the beer is definitely not a winter warmer, which is bunches more malt forward. I am a believer, though, in rating to style, but more importantly rating to taste, and to my taste this is like Celebration with a heavier malt profile.

So sign me the fliggity flock up because I am digging this hoppy ale that features toffee malt for days.

Next up is Dark Rituals from Bottle Logic. Mixture of Arcane Rituals barleywine and Darkstar stout. Poured at fridge temp. Pours motor oil black with almost no head. The nose is insane. Chocolate, toffee, bourbon, dark fruit, maple, sherry, figs, prunes, blackberries, and a bit of brown sugar. The nose is so good - really makes we want to take a sip!

Taste: Wow. Beautiful mixture of barleywine and stout. I can definitely pick out the Arcane Rituals and Darkstar. Thick creamy stout and the toffee of the English barleywine. Bourbon is very evident. Chocolate, vanilla, maple, some roasted malts (but not strong), and amazing dark fruit. Figs and raisins. Some mixtures seem awkward, but this does not. This is a seamless integration of styles.

Mouthfeel and overall: The mouthfeel gains viscosity from the stout. Pretty thick bodied, but not quite stout level. Overall, this is amazing and one that I will seek out again.

I'm glad it sounds like it aged well! I've been very impressed with Sweetwater's* last few anniversary offerings, but I rarely bought enough to age, and had no idea how well this one would fare. I had confidence it would be pretty good, though.

*Fun aside: while I was born and raised in Miami proper, my first two years were spent in Sweetwater (no relation to the brewery), technically a separate incorporated city within Miami, which itself is comprised of several smaller cities; if you Wiki any place I grew up in Miami (or where my family still lives), you might be surprised that I speak English at all, however poorly.

    Well Hello NBW.
Here and there I expect to see some beers from our NBS BIF #14 co-conspirators, and I will do the same. But I am starting off with something gifted to me locally.

Blockbuster Night Pt. 1 by Brew Gentlemen

Hazy orange to gold, nice fluffy white head. Good retention, layered lacing.
Initial aromas are citrus and dank. Then a bit of peach and wet grass, then more citrus and hints of tropical must? Hmm.At first pretty good. But then I also inhale again, a bit deeper, and get a strangely sharp grass meets chemical coconut note. Going to score nose as a mix of these 2 experiences.
Flavor is definitely more in line with the initial nose, but more subdued. But this time, the peach leads, non-pithy overripe grapefruit juice, apricot nectar comes in, as does some mango. Pretty good.
Mouthfeel is a bit low on the carbonation, medium in weight, and basically a little too relaxed.
Overall, i don't know how much of the interesting notes are due to the "terpenes," but well, OK.

    16 ounce can.
    Canned 11/03/21.

Moderate to vigorous pour yields a one inch white head over a hazy straw colored body with a bit of sticky lacing.

Nose of sweet citrus, mostly all orange.

Taste is all orange juice, with Orangina leading the way backed up by Clementine and just like the description says, a little pine on the finish.

Nice feel, even though it's a tad soft. I don't care, because this is a pleasure to drink.

Overall, a tasty and highly crushable juicy offering from the waterfront in Burlington, VT.
    Cheers!

So not only do great minds think alike but great palates taste alike as well? This beer is a hit and Yards did well.

And it was interesting to see that the website is showing it in cans so just like Philly Standard I will assume that the six packs are in bottles and the 12 packs are in cans.

All right. I'm not drinking this at the moment, but after the Parabola, I decided to walk to my local - Back Shed Brewing - about 2 blocks away as the crow flies from me. Because of the fences, and me being old, it's not as the crow flies.

I enjoyed this new beer, that they released yesterday.
    Hay-Z -NEIPA - 6.5% ABV.

It was good. It might not have been soft or juicy (hard to do with the super hard water coming out of the Mississippi river), but it did taste good. Tropical flavors abounded.

Pours a hazy, murky golden color. The head is one finger and white. Retention is pretty good and there is good lacing on the glass.
Nose is tropical. Lots of pineapple with some mango.
Taste is like the nose. Tropical with pineapple and backed up by mango.
Body is bubbly, but not soft or juicy.
    Not bad at all.

So am I going to be the only one from this state drinking their beers on here? See you all later. Cheers!

Oh I noticed - it sounds right up my alley! Although @bbtkd rated it as "overall decent" ... I tend to either enjoy cherry beers much more or much less than the average, so that could go either way.

So, I incorrectly credited @FBarber earlier with that Founders Velvet Rush. That credit belongs to @Whyteboar. I blame the mind-boggling quantity of BIF beer in my fridge for my boggled-mindedness.

This beer, however, actually did come from @FBarber. I think. Super Slug, a DDH DIPA resulting from a collaboration between Half Acre and Hop Butcher for the World.

16oz can served in a tulip. Dated 09/16/21.

Pours a very hazy orange-amber with a medium to small head and moderate to light ongoing carbonation. Smell is beautifully tropical juicy, balanced beautifully by resin.

Taste supports it fully, but resin is more in the forefront with tropical juice singing harmony. It has a hell of a bitter bite, in fact.

Mouthfeel is medium, a cross between creamy and chalky. Overall, this is a very good beer.

Thank you, Frank! And, sorry for my earlier transgression, Craig!

My first Von Trapp, their Pilsner.

12oz can served in a footed pilsner glass. Dated "best by" 02/16/22. Bought it in NYC and shipped it home.

Pours a clear golden, slight amber tinge, smallish head, plenty of active carbonation. Smell is grain tea, honeysuckle, and a little bit of cut grass.

Taste is right on the same track. Grain tea is a little more muted and honeysuckle sweetness is a bit more enhanced. Cut grass is fairly strong.

Mouthfeel is super light and clean. Overall, very nice beer.

I rated it decent/excellent since I prefer fruit sours that have some sweetness. I guess I'm not rating sours to style that way though.

[IMG] Poured a 16 oz Nordic pint glass, canned on 9/20/21. Pours a cloudy orange with a solid finger sticky off white head that leaves thick streaks of lace with nice retention. 4

Aroma peach, tangerine, honeydew, and apricot. 3.5

Taste follows peach, tangerine, honeydew, and apricot fairly balanced but also underwhelming. 3.5

Mouthfeel is above average, soft gentle carbonation, maybe a little sticky but dry, and at 7.8% it goes down easy enough. 4

Overall this is a pretty big let down, not sure if it just doesn’t any legs left from when it was canned or if it is just always a mediocre beer. Boring compared to all the excellent haze out these days. 3.5
