Yeah- it's pretty cool being tucked in between two blooming scenes: NYC, as that link points out, and the Hudson Valley. Just a bit north of me there's Peekskill and Rushing Duck, both churning out world class brews. I'm sure @cavedave can list the ones that I'm not familiar with, but all of a sudden there's local stuff worth seeking out these days.

And you know what? I enjoy Rammstein's contributions to the brewing world, in addition to the biggies like Carton, Kane, and... er... um... Cricket Hill? Oh, hey, Bolero! I like their amber. Really. No copper taste at all. Nice and malty.

It's great to finally see Ramstein bottling their lagers, too. And when the Blonde is 'on' it's a top-notch hefeweizen.

I'm a big fan of their Imperial Pilsner. I finished my last one tonight. Better on draft, still tasty in a bottle.

Plan Bee is gonna expand, and so is Sloop, both putting out some very nice stuff. Plan Bee tries to be local sourced 100%, excellent beers. Mill House just put out the first of their small batch series, a wild ale with yeast they harvested from apples, and now has an imperial spruce ale, with spruce they harvested. Brewery at Bacchus putting out a fantastic variety of beers of super high quality, Yard Owl about to open a brewpub on the outskirts of town in the shadow of the Gunks, Captain Lawrence putting out a respectable lineup of tasty beers at decent pricepoint still doing their greats, Keegan still doing what Tommy does best. And as you mention PB, my fave brewery in NY and RD a close no. 2.

Good to see NYC is getting some of the quality they deserve. Heard great things about Other Half, Singlecut, Transmitter, others. You do have it good in between as you are.

Unfortunately I don't get out much to visit the actual brewery, but Maumee Bay brews a fantastic stout I pick up every once and a while. http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/1475/57635/

Because of this thread I'm going to get dinner there next time my wife and I are looking for some place to go.

    Charlotte, NC.

    1. NoDa's Hop, Drop, N Roll.. and its available in cans!

    2. Wicked Weed just opened brewery #2 in Asheville, specifically brewing/barrelling sours.. Charlotte has been hit hard with an influx of bottles.

    3. Several new breweries opening their doors soon, including a "Belgian-influenced" brewery and a super experimental operation.

Southern Tier of Central NY (actually 3+ hrs East of the brewer of that name), seeing interesting progress in this small non-traditional brewing area --- large props to The North Brewery (everyone needs to try SexyKilt), Farmhouse Brewing of Owego, and Galaxy Brew Co. of Binghamton, together with reliable offerings from Ithaca Beer Co. we're burgeoning on being burgeoning around here .... which is something.

You are just about 2 hrs from one of the greatest Pils breweries in the world, which is housed literally in a working brewery museum. That's the same distance I am from Olde Mecklenburg -- which is about my only highlight among the "local" brewing scene here in Columbia, SC.

I did that. In fact, I included Oregon. Look at your local region from this perspective; everything's relative.

Love Rushing Duck and still need to get to Peekskill. So close to Kane and Carton here so I don't feel too deprived.

Very true, there several great places within. Few hours, but I was taking local to mean the city I'm in + maybe 20miles.

There are somegreat beers available at stores here, but nothing I would call local and unfortunately almost all of the local bars serve the insipid local beers:slight_frown:

South Florida has quite a craft boom. Funky Buddha, Wynwood brewing are the heavy hitters, but we have MIA, funky llama, Miami Brewing, Holy Mackerel, Titanic, The abbey, Due South, plus a few nanobrewers and J Wakefield getting ready to open his taproom (can't wait).
I wish I could claim the Tampa area as my territory, which is where Cigar City is located, followed by 7venth sun, rapp, Dunedin, and my favorite, Cycle Brewing.

I've purchased both FW and RR at Ho1kb in the past, in fact just today they posted on FB that they had Parabola in stock, and they've had RR sours every single time I've been there. They aren't cheap but then again beer is PA seldom is unless you're buying cases at a time.

If you're trying to compare fresh, hoppy west-coast IPAs from out west to SWPA beer, then yeah, you're going to be disappointed. But if you're looking at the beer scene as a whole without focusing on just one style, I actually think we have some decent options for the size of the city, as well as some beautiful/historic breweries that are worth visiting even if you don't love the beer.

Church Brew Works is worth visiting just for the building (converted cathedral), and their beers are consistently above average.

East End Brewing- I've never had a bad beer from these guys. Monkey Boy, Fat Gary Nut Brown, Joe Melt, etc.

Penn Brewery- historical spot, and these guys put out some really true-to-form versions of classic styles.

Full Pint- not a lot of offerings, but a solid lineup, and if you've never had Night of the Living Stout, you're missing out. It's an insanely hoppy stout, which seems wrong, but works really well here.
